Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.
Homeboy Industries is a youth program founded in 1992 by Father Greg Boyle, S.J. following the work of the Christian base communities at Dolores Mission Church. The program is intended to assist high-risk youth, former gang members and the recently incarcerated with a variety of free programs, such as mental health counseling, legal services, tattoo removal, curriculum and education classes, work-readiness training, and employment services. The most distinctive feature of Homeboy Industries is its social enterprises and small businesses, which give hard-to-place individuals an opportunity for employment in transitional jobs in a safe, supportive environment where they can learn both concrete and soft job skills. Among the businesses are the Homeboy Bakery, Homegirl Café & Catering, Homeboy/Girl Merchandise, Homeboy Farmers Markets, The Homeboy Diner at City Hall, Homeboy Silkscreen & Embroidery, Homeboy Grocery and Homeboy Cafe & Bakery in the American Airlines terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.
Angeles, a Spanish name, meaning angels, may refer to:
Gregory "Greg" Joseph Boyle (born May 19, 1954) is an American Jesuit priest. He is the founder and Director of Homeboy Industries and former pastor of Dolores Mission Church.
Fr. Boyle was born in Los Angeles and is one of eight children born to Kathleen and the late Bernie Boyle.
Boyle earned his BA in English from Gonzaga University, an MA in English from Loyola Marymount University, a Master of Divinity from the Weston School of Theology, and a Sacred Theology Masters degree from the Jesuit School of Theology.
Before founding Homeboy Industries, Father Greg taught at Loyola High School and worked with Christian Base Communities in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He was appointed as Pastor of Dolores Mission in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles in 1986 where he served through 1992. Following this, Fr. Greg spent time as Chaplain of the Islas Marias Penal Colony in Mexico and Folsom Prison, before returning to Los Angeles and Dolores Mission.
Lilibeth Rodríguez Morillo is an actress, cheerleader, singer and composer from Venezuela, daughter of singer and actress Lila Morillo and famous singer José Luis Rodríguez "El Puma".
Father Gregory Boyle, founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries, is an acknowledged expert on gangs, intervention and re-entry and today serves on the U.S. Attorney General's Defending Childhood Task Force. Born in Los Angeles, one of eight children, Fr. Greg worked in the family-owned dairy, loading milk trucks to earn his high school tuition. An enduring memory of that youthful time is when "...these weathered old truckers would come up to me, put their arms around me and point at my father in the distance, on the loading dock, and say, 'Your dad is a great man.'" Lessons from that first job apply at Homeboy Industries today where employees come to change for themselves and their children. Homeboy Industries traces its roots to "Jobs For A Future" (JFF), created in 1988 by Boy...

Things you need to know before you travel to Los Angeles California. LA is HUGE. You won't be able to see all of LA, unless you're staying for a very very long time. Los Angeles doesn't have a "center" and Downtown LA is not very exciting. LA is comprised of multiple cities Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu. Get a rental car - You'll need it to see most tourist attractions in Los Angeles. 2. Traffic - LA has traffic everywhere, all the time. All day, every day. Yes, even at 1am on a weekend. Deal with it. - The freeways have names -- it's not I-405 -- it's "THE 405" 3. Public Transit - LA has a subway! - But it probably doesn't go where you want! Especially the beach! 4. Parking - Is often Valet - and Costs money everywhere - Except when you're parking on the freeway :) - P...

Get more Tips here! www.destinationtips.com #1 Don't Book a Flight to LAX Avoid the crowds at LAX by flying instead to Burbank's Bob Hope Airport. It's far easier to navigate and is less crowded and has a direct rail connection to downtown Los Angeles. #2 Don't get stuck in a queue at Pink's Unless you enjoy tediously long waits and mediocre grub, be like those in the know and track down the nearest food trucks on Twitter. #3 Don't Jaywalk The city is notorious for its jaywalking tickets, and even celebs aren’t impervious to it. Just follow the crosswalk signals and be vigilant. #4 Don't take a Hollywood star home tour Unless you're into well manicured lawns or tall gates, a lot of celebrities don’t even live in Hollywood or Beverly Hills. Jesse recounted watching a graphic murder video from Venezuela, in which men mercilessly shot the head off a man who allegedly raped someone's two-year-old daughter. (Jesse later said he was surprised to find he was not emotional about the cruelty. He saw the evil, but had compassion on those driven by it.) One woman among us agreed with the method, or suggested putting rapists in a cage with a jaguar to be torn apart. She suffered the same violation as a child and does not forgive. Although searching for love, she will not pray consistently. Two young men joined us for the first time — one opened ...

You've been here forever
I've
I've been here too
They said you were clever
Let's see what you can do
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Yeah)
Los Angeles
(Said I...)
Things can't be easy
You're getting older
The pressure's building
Living in Van Nuys
Cal-i-forn-i-a
What else could I say?
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to believe it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(The west side)
Los Angeles
You said you were leaving
Heading out to the east coast
Cause your heart was bleeding
And people can be so
But you must remember
That it ain't the weather
That's gonna protect you
They will still neglect you
But I'll always love you
Said I've always loved you
(So come on home)
Said I've always loved you
So get back in your car and head west to California
The sun will be shining
And we could be dining by the ocean blue
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Los fues)
Los Angeles
(Said)
Los Angeles
(Said...)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I'll believe it)
