The following elections occurred in the year 2005.
2005 (MMV) was a common year starting on Saturday (dominical letter B) of the Gregorian calendar, the 2005th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 5th year of the 3rd millennium, the 5th year of the 21st century, and the 6th year of the 2000s decade.
2005 was designated as:
The year 2005 was the end of the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People (1995–2005).
An election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has operated since the 17th century. Elections may fill offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. This process is also used in many other private and business organizations, from clubs to voluntary associations and corporations.
The universal use of elections as a tool for selecting representatives in modern representative democracies is in contrast with the practice in the democratic archetype, ancient Athens, where the Elections were considered an oligarchic institution and most political offices were filled using sortition, also known as allotment, by which officeholders were chosen by lot.
Electoral reform describes the process of introducing fair electoral systems where they are not in place, or improving the fairness or effectiveness of existing systems. Psephology is the study of results and other statistics relating to elections (especially with a view to predicting future results).
A general election is an election in which all or most members of a given political body are chosen. The term is usually used to refer to elections held for a nation's primary legislative body, as distinguished from by-elections and local elections.
In presidential systems, the term refers to a regularly scheduled election where both the president, and either "a class" of or all members of the national legislature are elected at the same time but sometimes refers to special elections held to fill prematurely vacated positions. A general election day may also include elections for local officials.
The term originates in the elections in the United Kingdom for the House of Commons.
The elections held to elect the members of the Lok Sabha after expiry of the normal term of five years are called the General Elections. Elections to some State Legislative Assemblies may be held along with the Parliamentary Elections. Earlier up to 1957 simultaneous elections were held for both the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies. However, on account of early dismissal and mid-term elections the two got separated.
Election Night usually refers to the evening after an election day, when the votes are being counted and everyone is waiting for the election result.

When Big Ben struck 10 pm on 5 May 2005, the BBC announced the result of their exit poll which showed that Tony Blair would remain as Prime Minister but with a majority in the House of Commons of just 66. Although the result was correct, the exit poll predicted number of seats for each party was not quite right. In reality, Labour won 356 seats, the Conservatives won 198 seats and the Liberal Democrats won 62 seats.
Snagged from tv-ark.org.uk Wikipedia: "The United Kingdom general election of 2005 was held on Thursday, 5 May 2005. In it the Labour Party under Tony Blair won its third consecutive victory, with a reduced overall majority of 66 Members of Parliament (MPs)."
PULSE President announcing the results of the KSJC election and the celebrations following the landslide victory. PULSE garnered more than 1000 block votes, and SDM obtaining around 600 block votes - thus winning by more than 400 block votes. Following the victory with 66% of the total voting population in 1999 by PULSE, this is the second largest victory in Junior College Elections.
Reg Keys is the father of a British soldier who was killed in Iraq during 2003. He ran as an independent candidate against Tony Blair in his home constituency of Sedgefield during the 2005 general election to protest against Blair and his policies. Apologies for the poor quality, it is the best version available that contains the entire speech.
SYNOPSIS: Every two years the senior members of the Wo Shing Triad, the oldest gang in Hong Kong, elect an up-and-coming younger boss as their chairman. The two candidates they are voting on couldn't be farther apart in personality; Lok (Simon Yam) is a levelheaded businessman and Big D (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) is a loud, obnoxious, violent criminal. When the voting does not go how some people would have liked, lines are divided and a gang war begins to form.

This is a video of Jeremy Paxman interviewing Gorgeous George Galloway, shortly after Galloways election victory in the constituency of Bethnal Green & Bow on election night 2005. Galloway elected on going into a constituency that he knew he would win - due to the anti war sentiment & in the process managed to defeat Labour MP Oona King, one of only a few black female representatives in Parliament. It was a well orchestrated & divisive thing to do & was Galloways direct retaliation for the Labour Party expelling him from the party in October 2003 for inciting foreign forces & Arabs to rise up against the British troops.

Unlike all other constituencies, South Staffordshire polled on 23 June: the election was postponed after the death of a candidate. News 24 is presented by Peter Dobbie. At the start of the clip we are told the declaration will be a lot sooner than anticipated. After ten minutes, a paper review with Michael Brown and George Jones becomes a discussion of the election, and leads into the result from 22:15 (introduced by Reeta Chakrabarti, political correspondent). Later the winner of the byelection gives an interview.

Ethiopia held general elections on May 15, 2005, for seats in both its national and in four regional government councils. Under pressure from the international community, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi promised that this election would be proof that more democracy would come in this multi-ethnic nation; international elections observers from the European Union (EU) and the U.S.-based Carter Center were present to observe the results. This election succeeded in attracting about 90% of the registered voters to the polls. A government ban on protests was imposed throughout the election period. EU observers remarked on the "significantly enlarged freedoms for political campaigning in comparison to previous elections". Political parties campaigned actively, and opposition parties appeared to be i...
