Pinoy is an informal demonym referring to some of the Filipino people in the Philippines and overseas Filipinos around the world.
An unspecified number of Filipinos refer to themselves as Pinoy or sometimes the feminine Pinay. The word is formed by taking the last four letters of Filipino and adding the diminutive suffix -y in the Tagalog language (the suffix is commonly used in Filipino nicknames: "Ninoy" or "Noynoy" for Benigno (Jr. and III respectively), "Totoy" for Augusto, etc.). Pinoy was used for self-identification by the first wave of Filipinos going to the continental United States before World War II and has been used both in a pejorative sense as well as a term of endearment similar to Chicano. Although Pinoy and Pinay are regarded as derogatory by some younger Filipino-Americans, the terms are widely used and gaining mainstream usage particularly among members of the masses.
Pinoy was created to differentiate the experiences of those immigrating to the United States but is now a slang term used to refer to all people of Filipino descent. Mainstream usages tend to center on entertainment (Pinoy Big Brother) and music (Pinoy Idol) which has played a significant role in developing national and cultural identity. Pinoy music impacted the socio-political climate of the 1970s and was employed by both Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos and the People Power Revolution that overthrew his regime. As of 2016, the term is extensively used by the government of the Philippines itself, with apparently no derogatory connotations. It is more positive than the slang term "flip".
Pinoy Pride or Filipino Pride is a favorable set of beliefs concerning of being Filipino and an expression of Filipino nationalism. People who holds belief in Pinoy Pride asserts that the Philippines, its people and culture are positively different than others.
Different manifestations or observations concerning the Filipino people has been attributed to Pinoy Pride.
One of the more common manifestations of Pinoy pride is when Filipinos attribute the success Filipino nationals or individuals of Filipino descent abroad such as boxer Manny Pacquiao, singer Charice and American Idol season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez as a national achievement.
The way Filipinos cope up in the midst of natural disasters and problems, with some managed to still smile amidst such trials, has been attributed to resiliency of the Filipino people as a whole.
The UP Third World Studies Center, has linked Pinoy Pride's manifestation of Filipino resiliency to German sociologist Ulrich Beck's concept of narrated attention, "where the parlance of resiliency ultimately detracts from, rather than allow for, a critical stance towards the zeitgeist of our time".

Creeping and Cracking
Baby don't look back, no one goes home tonight
The evil we see and the evil we do
Brings out the beast in me and you
Waking up from screaming
You think it's all in your head
My my, it's a bad day to be alive
It's crawling under your skin and feeds of your hate
Just close your eyes and wait till the sun goes down
You better stay awake
The dark comes knocking so you better start running
Fear the demon in me, Fear the demon in you
Hear the voices calling you
Shadow's tongue licking your flesh
Rips the clothes clean of your body
Strip you clean straight down to the bones
You can't stay awake, You can't fall asleep
He's coming for your life
Don't wanna wake up dead, you know you're over your head
There ain't no turning back
You better stay awake
The dark comes knocking so you better start running
Fear the demon in me, Fear the demon in you
Laying in sweet tears
Dreams are turning into a living hell
The nightmares you see and the terror you feel
Takes a turn for the worse and becomes real
You better stay awake
The dark comes knocking so you better start running
