Qatar lashes out at UAE over QNA hacking
The United Arab Emirates has denied accusations that it was behind the hacking of the Qatar News Agency, which contributed to the political crisis in the Gulf.
The controversy started on May 23, when alleged hackers reportedly posted fake remarks on Qatar's official media platform criticising US foreign policy and attributing the statement to the country's emir.
The Washington Post says US intelligence agencies have confirmed the UAE was responsible for the cyber attack in May. In response, Qatar called it a crime and a violation of international law.
Al Jazeera's David Chater reports from Doha.

The Washington Post says US intelligence agencies have confirmed the United Arab Emirates was behind the hacking of the Qatar News Agency.
The newspaper says the UAE arranged for false quotes to be attributed to the emir of Qatar, including describing Iran as an 'Islamic power' - as well as praising Hamas.
Within days, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain accused Qatar of supporting terrorism - and cut diplomatic ties and closed their borders.
Qatar has consistently denied the allegations and said the false remarks were posted by hackers - an explanation rejected by the quartet.

Qatar (/ˈkæˌtɑːr/,
i/ˈkɑːtɑːr/, /ˈkɑːtər/ or i/kəˈtɑːr/;Arabic: قطر Qaṭar [ˈqɑtˤɑr]; local vernacular pronunciation: [ɡɪtˤɑr]), officially the State of Qatar (Arabic: دولة قطر Dawlat Qaṭar), is a sovereign country located in Southwest Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. A strait in the Persian Gulf separates Qatar from the nearby island of Bahrain, as well as sharing sea borders with the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
Following Ottoman rule, Qatar became a British protectorate in the early 20th century until gaining independence in 1971. Qatar has been ruled by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century. Qatar is a hereditary constitutional monarchy and its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The constitution was overwhelmingly approved in a constitutional referendum, with almost 98% in favour. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million: 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. After Saudi Arabia and Oman, Qatar is the most conservative society in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Washington Post is an American daily newspaper. It is the most widely circulated newspaper published in Washington, D.C., and was founded in 1877, making it the area's oldest extant newspaper.

The United Arab Emirates i/juːˌnaɪtᵻd ˌærəb ˈɛmɪrᵻts/ (Arabic: دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة Dawlat al-Imārāt al-‘Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah), sometimes simply called the Emirates or the UAE, is a country located in the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with Qatar and Iran. In 2013, the UAE's total population was 9.2 million, of which 1.4 million are Emirati citizens and 7.8 million are expatriates.
Established in December 1971, the country is a federation of seven emirates. The constituent emirates are Abu Dhabi (which serves as the capital), Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. Each emirate is governed by an absolute monarch; together, they jointly form the Federal Supreme Council. One of the monarchs is selected as the President of the United Arab Emirates. Islam is the official religion of the UAE, and Arabic is the official language, although English is widely used.

01. Museum of Islamic Art
A museum located on the Corniche. The iconic building was designed by architect I. M. Pei. Represents Islamic art from three continents over 1,400 years. Influenced by ancient Islamic architecture, yet has a unique design.
02. Souq Waqif
A souq. Transliterated to "the standing market," the souq is noted for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Also home to dozens of restaurants and Shisha lounges. Was renovated in 2006 to conserve its traditional architectural style.
03. Doha Corniche
A waterfront promenade extending for several kilometers along Doha Bay. Used to be an empty stretch of walkway in which the only visible edifice was a Sheraton Hotel, but development has increased in the 21st century with dozens of skyscrapers being built towards the north of the Corniche.
04. The Pearl-Qatar
An artificial island spanning nearly four million square metres. It is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. The name "The Pearl" was chosen because the island is being built on one of Qatar's previous major pearl diving sites.
05. Villaggio Mall
A shopping mall located in the Aspire Zone. Inside, the interiors are Italianate-themed both as an Italian hill town, but also with a 150-meter long indoor canal with gondolas. Has over 200 stores, including many famous brands in the U.S., U.K., Italian and German markets.
06. Barzan Towers
Aso known as the Umm Salal Mohammed Fort Towers, are watchtowers that were built in the late 19th century and renovated in 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani. The towers measure 16 metres (52.49 ft) high. The fort links to two other fortified buildings towards the west and another tower towards the north.
07. Aspire Tower
Also known as The Torch Doha, is a 300-metre-tall (980 ft) skyscraper hotel located in the Aspire Zone complex. Served as the focal point for the 15th Asian Games hosted by Qatar in December 2006. Currently the tallest structure and building in Doha and Qatar.
08. Qatar Motor Show
An annual international motor show. Held each January at the Doha Exhibitions Centre. Features new models as well as supercars, concept cars, custom cars from style centers and automotive designers. Outdoor demonstrations of motocross and drifting are featured as well as test driving.
09. Al Bidda
A neighborhood of Doha. It was previously the largest town in Qatar in the 19th century. Was incorporated as a district in the Doha municipality in the late 20th century.
10. Doha Golf Club
An 18-hole, 7,374-yard, par 72 championship course that was designed by Peter Harradine. One of the first grass golf course ever built in the Middle East. Open to nonmembers, it has a 2 808 yards long floodlit nine-hole academy course, and a clubhouse with three restaurants and a golf shop.

Inside Story - Can the world's aviation watchdog end the air space ban against Qatar?
The air embargo by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt on Qatar, all part of the worst diplomatic crisis in the Gulf for years, is now into its second week. Qatar is calling the move by its Arab neighbours illegal.
Qatar Airways says 18 destinations in the 4 countries are now off-limits, about 50 flights a day. And many are being re-routed over Iran, Turkey and Oman. That means longer flight paths, using up more fuel.
All five countries are at talks in Montreal with the International Civil Aviation Organization which will try to find a solution.

Almost three months after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar, Saudi's King Salman appears to offer a small step towards reconciliation. He's ordered the reopening of the border with Qatar to Hajj pilgrims. The invitation comes the day after the US described the Gulf crisis as being at a stalemate. Qatar's foreign minister welcomed the move, although he said it was a "politically-motivated decision". In reality, at the border crossing, some Qataris are still not being allowed to make the journey.

Almost three months after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar, Saudi's King Salman appears to offer a small step towards reconciliation. He's ordered the reopening of the border with Qatar to Hajj pilgrims. The invitation comes the day after the US described the Gulf crisis as being at a stalemate. Qatar's foreign minister welcomed the move, although he said it was a "politically-motivated decision". In reality, at the border crossing, some Qataris are still not being allowed to make the journey.

Thirty years of rising living standards have left Qatar with an epidemic of obese children. Now doctors are trying to tighten belts and stem the tide on a major health problem that could have far reaching consequences.
At the beginning I was fine, until I was in the third year at primary school. Then the Gulf tummy started to grow explains Moaz, who suffered from obesity all through his childhood. A sharp rise in economic affluence, increasingly westernized diets and low exercise rates has lead to an explosion in the country's levels of obesity. 40% of Qataris are now obese and 20% suffer from diabetes, with 75% of diabetics under 45 years of age. As Dr Taheri explains, the effects could be far reaching. "They are going to be affected at a very young age with heart disease, problems with cancer, dementia, things that are going to affect the nation in the long term." Doctors like Taheri are hoping that a strict program of prevention, enforcing healthy diets and exercise regimes upon the nation's schoolchildren will be enough to limit the impact.
