Moments In Time - Richard Hell does Debbie Harry - 1976

Richard Hell and Debbie Harry photographed on 17th Street in New York City in October of 1976.

"The story ran in Punk Magazine. It ran like a comic book story. The story line was weird; it was about Richard Hell defeating these Nazi dykes. I don't even remember what it was. It was very tongue in cheek. Very punk."

This special edition has some extra tracks and is remastered. Included in this re-release are 4 brand new tracks, including remixes and French versions.

The new 30th Anniversary edition of seminal New York punk band Blondie’s crossover smash album Parallel Lines was released this summer. Containing smash hits like “Heart of Glass”, “Hanging on the Telephone” and “One Way or Another”, among others, this was the album that transformed Blondie from an underground fave to the top of the charts.

Blondie first gained fame in the late 1970s and have so far sold over 60 million records - including sales by the current version of the band, who reunited a few years back after a long period of hiatus.

Blondie were a pioneer in the early American punk rock and new wave scenes. Their first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie were regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978.

Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and was noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a new-wave band.

This is a true pop-punk classic from the New Yawk new-wavers.

Some wonderful pop moments throughout.

Debbie harry sure looked hotter than Georgia asphalt too then!

Blondie turned to British pop producer Mike Chapman for their third album, on which they abandoned any pretensions to new wave legitimacy (just in time, given the decline of the new wave) and emerged as a pure pop band.

But it wasn't just Chapman that made Parallel Lines Blondie's best album; it was the band's own songwriting, including Deborah Harry, Chris Stein, and James Destri's "Picture This," and Harry and Stein's "Heart of Glass," and Harry and new bass player Nigel Harrison's "One Way or Another," plus two contributions from non-bandmember Jack Lee, "Will Anything Happen?" and "Hanging on the Telephone."

That was enough to give Blondie a number one on both sides of the Atlantic with "Heart of Glass" and three more U.K. hits, but what impresses is the album's depth and consistency -- album tracks like "Fade Away and Radiate" and "Just Go Away" are as impressive as the songs pulled for singles.

The result is state-of-the-art pop/rock circa 1978, with Harry's tough-girl glamour setting the pattern that would be exploited over the next decade by a host of successors led by Madonna.
