The Video - Throwing Muses' "Not Too Soon"

Why do you stare so hard, wrapped up like a doll in bad dreams and broken arms?

Man, that Tanya Donnelly was sure one hot tamale, back in the day!

Yap, it's Miss Donelly and (sometime) pals with one of the Muse's finest moments, the kickass, catchy, pop/rock melange "Not Too Soon". A sort of prototype for Tanya's later Belly oeuvre.

"Not Too Soon" is a rather dark, visceral tale of an fucked up love/ obsession ("I couldn't look you in the face and tell you that it turns me on - it makes my stomach turn") but one wonderfully counterpointed by the jaunty, addictive melodies.

And what about those gorgeously giddy, dizzying chorus riffs!

"Not Too Soon" was released as a single from their The Real Ramona LP back in 1991.

It's one of only two songs on that album written by Tanya, who would, soon after, leave the group to play bass for The Breeders, and (along with then Muses bassist Fred Abongform Belly.

The band's fine ninth album, Purgatory/Paradise dropped last week.
