Art of the Cover - Owls' "Two" (2014)

To wimpy whelps and girlish screams from hipsters with crap haircuts everywhere, Emo OG Tim Kinsella confirmed to SPIN a few weeks back that his long-dormant (well, they'd only been gone a dozen years!) Owls outfit would make a grand return in 2014.

And .. ta-da .. here it be!

The 13-years-in-the-making sophomore album is called .. wait for it ..  Two. Pure genius!

Anyway, Two hits the pavements this week.

And I like the cover.

Well, what I like most about the cover (which is in the same style as the distinctive cover to their debut LP called .. wait for it .. Owls !) is that it includes the bloody decapitated head of Oasis douchebag Noel Gallagher!

"The band dynamic was eerily similar to the first record," said Mike Kinsella on the record's making. "In some ways I think we all regressed to whatever roles we filled then, for better and for worse."

Art of the Cover - Owls' "Owls" (2001)

The first studio album by Chicago based Indie rock band Owls, released before a little hiatus ... well, only a dozen years!

The band was founded by Tim Kinsella (vocals), Mike Kinsella (drums), Victor Villarreal (guitar) and Sam Zurick (bass), all of whom had founded the influential emo band Cap'n Jazz. Owls, however, did not consider themselves a reunion of Cap'n Jazz but something altogether new.

The group cut this self-titled album for Jade Tree Records in 2001. The LP - which sure has some great song titles on there - was critically acclaimed and made many Best-Of lists that year.

Mike quit the group afterwards and was replaced by Ryan Rapsys for a few live gigs, but the group dissolved in 2002 amidst rumors of a drug problem by one of the members.

To wimpy whelps and girlish screams from hipsters with crap haircuts everywhere, Tim Kinsella confirmed to SPIN a few weeks back that his Owls outfit would make a grand return in 2014.

The 13-years-in-the-making sophomore album is called .. wait for it ..  Two. Pure genius!

Anyway, Two hits the pavements on March 25th.

The interesting and distinctive cover art style here is very much riffed upon on the new sophomore outing. replete with the bloody decapitated head of Oasis douchebag Noel Gallagher!
