Antisemitism and the Left
Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm Antisemitism – bigotry against Jews – is currently having a global resurgence, as part of the rise of White supremacy and fascism. Unfortunately the left is sometimes guilty of upholding antisemitism, as happened earlier this year in Sydney’s anarchist community. Antisemitism is bolstered by far-right conspiracy theories that have a ‘socialist’ veneer, for example attacking ‘the Jews’ instead of the ruling class. Additionally, leftists sometimes fail to distinguish between anti-colonial criticism of the state of Israel, and racism against Jews. At this forum, a group of non-Zionist Jewish speakers will offer their perspectives on these issues, followed by a facilitated discussion. This forum is open to anyone who is interested in fighting racism and colonialism. Racism, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Arab or anti-Palestinian sentiment, is not welcome. If you’ve been called out on antisemitism or other forms of oppressive behaviour, you may attend, but you are expected to spend most of the time listening. »
