Jacob Whitfield (son of John Whitfield and Susanna Pierson) was born May 1774 in Coothill Ballyhagen County Kildare Ireland, and died date unknown.He married (1) Mary Gowrie on Abt. 1800.He married (2) Jean Connell on 2 Apr 1832.He married (3) Elizabeth Smith on 11 Apr 1840.

Jacob was a Protestant. He was employed as a Ploughman and in July 1820 at the Co.Tyrone Ireland, he was
involved in a court case, and sentenced to Life Imprisonment, and was transported on the 4-11-1821, on the
"Isabella" from Cork Co. Cork, Ireland ,to Sydney where he landed on the 9-3-1822.
Archives show his letter requesting permission for his wife and six children to follow him. They sailed from Co.
Cork on the 13-11-1825 on the "Thames of London". Records show only five children arrived on the 14-4-1826.
Apparently wife and one child died on the voyage. Jacob later re-married.

Meanwhile, on 9 March 1822 the Isabella I arrived from Cork with 200 prisoners, among whom was a sixty-year-old (sic) man on a life sentence named Jacob Whitfield. After a time in the Hyde Park Convict Barracks, Jacob was assigned to Mr Cable of Windsor. He later worked on construction of the Great North Road.
Jacob Whitfield was allegedly aged 80 years old when he was granted permission to marry Elizabeth Smith aged 49 in 1840. He was obviously a much more hardy specimen than this descendant.
Elizabeth had arrived four years previously on the Henry Wellesley and Jacob had arrived in 1822 on the Isabella 1. He had received a Life sentence, which also meant he could never return to the Old Country. It appears Jacob had a wife already in Ireland, and then, as was customary at the time, married again in Sydney in 1832:

Jacob was born May 1774 to John Whitfield and Sarah Pearson at Ballyhagen. Jacob married Mary Gowrie c.1800 and had six children Mary, Catherine, Judith, William, Jacob and a sixth name not known. Jacob senior was sentenced to life imprisonment in July 1820 in County Tyrone and was transported to Australia. The four first named children joined Jacob in Australia. His wife Mary, son Jacob and the sixth child remained in Ireland. Mary died 12/3/1841 at Finnelly. Jacob senior took two more wives in Australia Jean Connell on 5 April 1831 and Elizabeth Smith on 11 April 1840. Both wives and Jacob senior have never appeared on an death indexes in Australia and it is unlikely that they returned to Ireland due to the nature of his original life sentence. It is thought that the fifth child named Jacob born 1820 may have also ventured to Australia but no record of his arrival can be found. Help need in trying to establish facts as to whether Jacob Senior returned to Ireland somehow and was there actually a fifth child named Jacob and what became of him and possibly the sixth child. With no closure on Jacob, Jean and Elizabeth research has stalled. Help needed.
