He has worked at senior levels in Australian journalism for 35 years, inlcuding stints as the Washington and Middle-East correspondent for The Australian, and has recently returned after six years based in Jerusalem for the paper. He has won many awards, including three Walkleys, and was the Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year in 1999.
