Primer disco, de los dos que sacó además del EP compartido con Kobayashi, de este grupo alemán activo a principios del dos mil. El toque oscuro de sus melodías hacen de estas diez canciones, con letras que mezclan lo político con otras más personales, algo adictivo. Si además nos fijamos en el extenso libreto que lo acompaña, con letras y otros textos (algunos traducidos a inglés) del grupo y los sellos involucrados en esta cuidada edición, nos queda el sabor de tantos otros buenos grupos de hardcorepunk salidos de Alemania.

Grupo alemán de Bremen de principios de los noventa cuyo siete pulgadas fue una de las primeras referencias del reconocido sello Per Koro de la misma ciudad, aunque haciendo una música algo distinta de otros grupos que hicieron tan conocido este sello y esta ciudad. Su sonido es más rockero y menos metal, con un aire DC en la voz y la música, que lo hace muy interesante. Poco después de estas cuatro canciones sacaron un LP en el mismo sello.

Primer disco de este grupo alemán de mediados de los noventa en la onda de algunos grupos de Bremen. Hardcore metálico y técnico con cambios de ritmo entre emo y macarra. Tiene algunos cachos de canciones muy buenos y otros más aburridos, pero en general es un disco que deja buen sabor de boca para luego escuchar su LP (Kalter Bauer, sacado por el mismo sello un poco después de éste) que es una maravilla oculta.Me gustan las ilustraciones de Lusmore.

Primer disco del grupo alemán Lost World, un doble siete pulgadas con diez temazos de anarcopunk cantados (en alemán, inglés e italiano) por una de las mejores voces femeninas de la época, en el que todavía hay ecos de su anterior grupo Day By Day pero con un sonido un poco más canalla. Las canciones en italiano están muy guapas. Un clásico sacado por unos sellos clásicos del anarcopunk de los noventa. El capitalismo es la enfermedad.

"I have somehow gained this reputation for being ever optimistic, but every time I close my eyes that's the last thing on my mind. I somehow betrayed the relationship between me and myself that you see, and this was my responsability, and now I know and wish it all away." (Analysis, The Cable Car Theory).

"We have to swallow, what is told and like a poor wretch we have to form our own oponion. We are all manipulated unconsciously and unexpectedly through a daily presence. Who does ever notice that we play minor roles? Who does ever notice that we still get ruled today? Knowingly squeezed into the consciousness. But who does really notice? Media manipulation! Step by step, but unstoppable we lose the survey of our action." (Was wir nicht sehen (We don't see it happen), Realign).

Otro compartido bien compartido con dos grupos con un puntillo similar. Pillé este disco en un concierto de los alemanes Realign hace años porque me gustó su energía en directo. Algo de esa energía y chispa hay en sus dos canciones de este disco, con un toque entre metal y rockero, y letras políticas, aunque sin la garra del concierto. Una música similar, aunque más melódica y melosa, hacen por la otra cara los neoyorquinos The Cable Car Theory, con tres buenos temas de letras más personales. Una buena colaboración.

Peace Of Mind.Upset split EP

"Each individual, in his place, is securely confined to a cell from which he is senn from the the front by the supervisor; but the side walls prevent him from coming into contact with his companions. He is senn, but he does not see; he is the object of information, never a subject in communication. The arrangement of his room, opposite the central tower, imposes on him an axial visibility; but the divisions of the ring, those separated calls, imply a lateral invisibility. And this invisibility is a guarantee of order. If the inmates are convicts, there is no danger of a plot, an attempt at collective escape, the planning of new crimes for the future, bad reciprocal influences; if they are patients, there is no danger of contagion; if they are madmen there is no reisk of their commiting violence upon one another; if they are schoolchildren, there is no copying, no noise, no chatter, no waste of time; if they are workers, there are no disorders, no theft, no coalitions, none of the distractions that slow down the rate of work, make it less perfect or cause accidents." Otro split con grupos alemanes, bastante similar al anterior en lo musical, pero con un concepto más elaborado en el diseño y el libreto, que parte de la idea de la panóptico (sobre eso trata el texto de Foucalt)  para tratar el tema de la incomunicación y el control social en los muchos textos que acompañan el disco (en alemán e inglés). El libreto está muy bien, y la música que lo acompaña también. Tres temas más melódicos de los longevos Peace Of Mind, con voz masculina y femenina, y un sonido algo más elaborado que en anteriores trabajos. Por la otra cara, dos temas de Upset, más metálico, intenso y agresivo, ponen el contrapunto perfecto para equilibrar esta perfecta colaboración de grupos y sellos alemanes.

"The concept of panoptic tower is not to be understood as a sovereign power which leads from one central being in power down to those not in control, it is rather to be understood as forms of power which circulate in the social field. Then, power is rather a dynamic of control and lack of control - relations of power are dispersed and fragmented throughout this social field. An understanding of how modern subjects are constructed might open ways for change and contestation. If power is fragmented throughout the social field, so must resistance to this form of power. It is not to be expected to make one form of liberalization from oppressive powers possible. The question rather is if we can enable other knowledges and forms of differences which can break down the cellular spaces we are trapped in. This could be possible by means of communication and by struggling for otherness, for de- and re- construction of social subjects and practices - let it be gender identities, forms of sexuality, definition of friendship and/or relationships, beauty, ways of communication, creativity...whatever..." Tell me, who tries to set the rules for today's strategy, though everybody fights the other in ruthless stupidity, fighting, why fighting when all common sense is missing, is the other side just talking shit or have we forgotten just to listen, fighting, why fighting with no scrap of sense at all, certain of the necessity what started it off no one can recall. Tell me which lack of understanding is responsible for the lies, that justify the death of innocents, cause they were on the wrong side. Tell me what's the use in talking, stop distress from getting bigger, when people who cried out for help still go on and pull the trigger, looks like wounds that been scarred long ago haven't had enough time to heal" (Tell me, Spit Acid).

Siete pulgadas compartido por dos grupos alemanes. Por un lado, dos canciones de uno de mis favoritos, Spit Acid, haciendo muy bien lo que saben hacer, emopunk alemán con toques melódicos y sonido crudo y bonito, cantado en inglés. Para mi gusto, dos de sus mejores temas (en la onda de su LP): uno contra el maltrato animal y el segundo contra las guerras y la violencia. Por el otro lado, una canción de un grupo para mí desconocido (que tocan un estilo de hardcore muy diferente a Spit Acid (pero de alguna manera también muy alemán), mucho más oscuro y lento, metálico con toques sludge y una voz más gutural (me recuerdan un poco a los Zorn de su LP), muy intenso. Sin ser mi estilo preferido me gusta mucho este tema (me gustaría poder escuchar el EP anterior a este split), la pena es que no haya traducción de su letra en alemán. Buen disco de uno de los sellos alemanes más decisivos de esos años.

"Drive To Hell (Fahrt zur Hölle) is the message of this record. It's about punk and my problem with male behaviour and about the fact that people don't build their opinion themselves. I don't know... where is the point to start to break free? YOURSELF!?! Create a life on your own and listen to nice music... punk? The poster is about building dreamworlds. It doesn't mean it's not ok to have a friend but the world is more than this, there are a lot of other people around. "No human being is illegal" is a simple phrase but fucking true. By the way... the bands on this compilation are really nice people.. No fun and tschüss." (Philippe, Aus'M Bauch Records).

Bonito siete pulgadas recopilatorio de los que tanto me gustan con seis bandas alemanas de emopunkrock significativas de lo que se hacía por esos lares a finales de los noventa. Pillé este disco por Peace Of Mind y, sobre todo, por Koyaanisqatsi (uno de mis grupos alemanes preferidos), pero como sucede en las buenas recopilaciones, como ésta, me sorprendieron dos grupos que no conocía, Mad Minority y El Mariachi, con las dos mejore canciones del disco. Los otros dos son Küchenmesser Nr.8, que tampoco está mal, y Dellwo con una canción de apenas treinta segundos. Por otra parte, está muy bien presentado (la portada es plateada) y repleto de textos (en alemán) del chico que sacó el disco y de los grupos, además de un cartel (que tengo colgado en la pared), las letras traducidas, unos flyers del sello y un panfleto del colectivo Kein Mensch Ist Illegal (Ninguna Persona Es Ilegal). Un disco completo: como tienen que ser los buenos recopilatorios.

Strange Fruit EP

Más emopunk alemán de los noventa. Esta vez Strange Fruit que en su siete pulgadas nos grabaron dos temazos donde mezclan a la perfección la ternura del emocore con la rabia del hardcore consiguiendo una intensidad brutal en sus melodías y tempos. No conocía este grupo cuando un amigo que conoce mis gustos me lo vendió para sacar algo de pasta porque lo tenía repetido: acertó por completo. Este estilo de grupos alemanes siempre me ha gustado (además de tocar muy bien casi siempre me transmiten algo especial) y creo que este disco de Strange Fruit es uno de los mejores que se grabaron. Más tarde encontré su otro disco, un LP compartido con Peace Of Mind que está muy bien, pero no logra la intensidad de estos dos apasionados trallazos, sacados por dos sellos desconocidos. Para mí, sin duda, una joya.

Precioso disco de emo alemán bien hecho de mediados de los noventa. Dos grupos muy buenos y dos canciones muy buenas. Lo pillé por Kassiopeia (que tienen además un siete pulgadas tan bonito como éste) y acabé descubriendo el otro grupo (que también tienen otro siete pulgadas pero no he escuchado nunca). Es una maravilla de disco. Hardcore bonito.

Como dice la portada un siete pulgadas recopilatorio sobre sexismo, esperanza y abrirse paso. Son cinco grupos: tres alemanes Pershing Boys, Peace of Mind y Spit Acid, los italianos Kina (con su Mondo mai visto) y los estadounidenses Sleeper. Aunque muchos de los textos están en alemán y no los entiendo, el libreto está muy cuidado: tiene colaboraciones -escritos y dibujos- de la gente de los grupos y los sellos que apoyan el lado musical de esta idea. Me gustan los discos hechos en común con ganas y cariño.

Más alto aunque no más claro se puede decir en 2011, ¿no? "This split LP is part of the worldwide d.i.y. conspiracy" pone escrito en el lomo de esta maravilla de disco compartido por dos conocidas bandas europeas: Peace Of Mind de Alemania y Anomie de Francia. Como en todo buen disco trae un libreto muy guapo con textos y letras y rabia y cariño. Musicalmente hay poco que decir que seguramente no sepáis ya: la cara de Anomie es quizá una de los mejores ejemplos de emopunk francés que tanto insiró a tanta gente en esa época y todavía hoy. A mi me encanta, sobre todo, la idea que tuvieron de juntar a gente de los dos grupos (aunque al final sólo pudo colaborar Jobst, el cantante de P.O.M.) para grabar un par de canciones (las últimas de cada cara: Afraid es buenísima) llevando así la idea de los discos compartidos un poco más allá: es divertido escuchar a Jobst y Kathleen cantando juntos, se nota que se lo pasaron bien haciéndolo.

"I just wanted to say that for me a split LP represents far more than just a record collaboration. It's the reason why I thought about making some songs together with Peace Of Mind members. After deciding to make it together we organized it. The fact is that just Jobst came from Germany (we were a bit sad that the others couldn't come). Me he despertado alemán esta mañana, y no sólo por el día gris y frío de invierno (hay veces que me encantan los días así). Alguien querido se ha ido esta mañana a Berlín unos días y es como si me hubiera ido también yo con ellos: así que me apetece dedicarles este disquito de pura intensidad invernal alemana. Además, los June's Tragic Drive tienen una canción (para mí la mejor de este split) que se llama Good-Bye January: perfecta para este último día de otro enero que se va.

"I never learned to look what future brings. This is today & tomorrow is a lie. A fucking lie!! Resist. Resist. Resist."

Pillé este disco por Enfold (su EP Routine y el compartido con Linsay son bestiales) que se marcan tres temazos de emopunk metalizado con toques rockerillos como se hacía en Alemania hacia finales de los noventa. Pero como a veces sucede (eso es lo bueno de los splits) el grupo que no conocía me gustó mucho más que el conocido. June's Tragic Drive tocan dos canciones en la misma onda pero mucho más intenso, más emocional: una grata sorpresa. Que yo sepa son, por desgracia, lo único que dejaron grabado.

No sólo tiene una portada preciosa (creo que había diferentes versiones) sino que viene con un libreto cosido con las letras de las canciones, fotos de los grupos y textos del chico que llevaba el sello ("one man love peace and harmony society" como él mismo dice). Un disco muy guapo...

Cañita para zanjar esta noche (escuché la canción de los alemanes Upset -un temazo- el otro día en casa de un colega y me apetecía escucharlo ahora antes de irme a dormir). La intro de los belgas Rubbish Heap es brutal. Sé poco de estos grupos: sólo que Upset tiene otro 7" compartido con Peace Of Mind, y que éste fue uno de los mejores discos que tuvimos en nuestra distri hace ya tiempo. ¡Brutal!

Después de escuchar Spit Acid esta mañana y recordar este grupo donde tocaban el mismo bajista (que además llevaba el sello Day Dream) y cantante (su curiosa voz suena mejor con la música de Help) me apetecía escuchar este disco que fue lo único que grabaron Help. Éste debe ser uno de mis primeros discos y le tengo un cariño especial, sobre todo por la canción SomeDay que es una auténtica delicia.

Sacado por Day Dream y Revolution Inside de Alemania y Sour Grapes de España (Fuengirola) en el 96.

Spit Acid - The tragedy of reality EP

Primer disco de este grupo alemán autoeditado en 1994. Tienen una canción en el recopilatorio Agressions in an emotional way (que subí hace poco) donde lo escuché por primera vez. Sacaron un LP en Per Koro Records (quizá lo mejor que grabaron) y un split EP en el mismo sello con Step Into Nowhere (que ya subiré). Aunque estas canciones no sean sus mejores (Media maelstrom es la que más me gusta) para mí son un trozo más de historia. Además, he descubierto hace poco que compartían miembros con Help (sin duda uno de mis grupos alemanes preferidos) que hace que le tenga más afecto todavía a esta buena gente.

Las cuatro primeras canciones de los alemanes Phillippé: otro de esos grupos que experimentaba con el sonido punk a finales de los noventa. Tiene momentos terribles y momentos geniales. La canción Second moment es uno de los geniales: siempre ha sido una de mis preferidas. Sacaron después un split 7" con Universal (en el mismo sello) y un 12" (al que le falta la chispa de estas primeras grabaciones).

Primera referencia del sello alemán Flowerviolence Records en 1998.

Me estreno con los doce pulgadas. Sin duda, uno de los grupos que más ha marcado mi manera de escuchar hardcorepunk: esa sensación de libertad que habita la música: esa manera de expresarla. 

Lo escuché por primera vez en el doble LP recopilatorio Whispers de Skuld Releases y Profane Existence donde su canción Briefe ya me llamaba la atención por su manera de integrar el cello en un sonido crust (y también por la voz de la cantante). Este disco es una vuelta de tuerca más a ese sonido diferente -una búsqueda- que siempre han conseguido. 

Además, tiene una de las canciones punk más bonitas que jamás se han grabado: Run from the shadow.

Para completar el post de esta mañana, os dejo este EP doble compartido (me gusta ese formato) indispensable para comprender lo que se hacía en ambas orillas del atlántico a principios de los noventa. Al menos para mí, claro. El mismo impulso (la misma pasión) de formas diferentes. Son las últimas canciones que dejaron grabadas ambos grupos. Un trozo de historia.

Sólo faltan los títulos y letras de las canciones de Abyss, pero qué más da.
