John Lynch (actor)

John Lynch (born 26 December 1961) is an Irish actor and novelist.

Biography

John Lynch was born in Corrinshego, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, near Newry, County Down. He attended St Colman's College, Newry. He began acting in Irish language-medium plays at school during the early years of the conflict in Northern Ireland. He is the eldest of five children of an Irish father and an Italian mother. His younger sister Susan is also an actress.

Lynch is also a novelist. His first novel, Torn Water, was published in November 2005 by the Fourth Estate, a literary imprint of Harper and Collins, and his second, Falling Out of Heaven, was published on 13 May 2010 by the same publisher. He separated from Mary McGuckian, in 2008 and the marriage was annulled mid-2012.

Acting career

Lynch has appeared in numerous films related to Northern Ireland's problems, among others, such as Cal (1984) with Helen Mirren,In the Name of the Father (1993), with Daniel Day-Lewis, The Railway Station Man (1992), with Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland, Nothing Personal and Some Mother's Son (1996), also with Mirren, as well as the Irish-themed film Evelyn (2002).

However, he was a key player on the aggressive Tampa 2 defenses of the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2002, Lynch collected a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXXVII with the Bucs. The song was recorded with Daniel Lanois on the pedal steel guitar for the film. However, a different mix than the one heard in the film appears on the soundtrack. The song credits author Salman Rushdie as its writer because the lyrics are taken from his book of the same name. U2 singer, Bono, came up with the idea for the song after reading a manuscript of Rushdie's novel. In the novel, the fictional character Ormus Cama writes the lyrics as a lamentation for his lover, Vina Apsara. U2 uses these lyrics almost word for word, however omitting the following line: "She was my ground, my favorite sound, my country road, my city street, my sky above, my only love, and the ground beneath my feet." Rushdie, himself, was very pleased with the song, claiming it had "some of the most beautiful melodies [Bono] had ever come up with." In reference to the song, Rushdie said, "So I always knew, you know, that it wasn't going to be an uptempo foot-tapper, because it's a sad song. I think it sounds like, I hope, one of those big U2 ballads for which Bono's voice, actually, is beautifully well suited." "Electrical Shtorm" 2002 Directed by Anton Corbijn Written by U2 Music: The Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen, Jr.; Lyrics: Bono "Electrical Storm" Single by U2 from the album The Best of 1990--2000 Released: 21 October 2002 "Electrical Storm" is the only single from U2's second compilation album, The Best of 1990--2000, and one of the two new songs recorded for that album (the other one being "The Hands That Built America"). The music video for the song prominently features drummer Larry Mullen, Jr., as well as actress Samantha Morton. The song is about two lovers who are fighting and the tension between them; it relates this to a looming electrical storm. Although the song did not make a big impression in the U.S. (#77), the song did well elsewhere, peaking at #1 in Canada and many European countries. It also peaked at #5 on the UK Singles Chart and made #s 13 and 26 on the Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, respectively. It made #5 in Australia. Two official versions of the song exist — the "Band Version" mixed by Carl Glanville, and the "William Orbit Mix" mixed by William Orbit and featuring a much quieter intro. The "William Orbit Mix" appeared on The Best of 1990-2000 and the "Band Version" was featured on the b-sides disc of the album. A third version was heard, briefly, on radio stations in the UK and Australia, shortly before official release of the single. Sometimes called the 'Radio One Mix' (because it was originally played on Radio One in the UK, and in the middle of the song a Radio One station call sign is heard), this version is a very-mellow sounding mix, with different guitar lines during the chorus and traditional U2 "chiming" riff at the start of the guitar solo towards the end of the song. It is believed this was a demo version that was leaked to radio, and it now is thought to only exist as private fan off-air recordings. Though released in 2002, the song was not played live until the U2 360° Tour when it was played in the William Orbit style during the tour's second night in Barcelona, Spain on 2 July 2009. From 1997-2005 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the Best Defenses of All Time. Under Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin the Bucs placed top 10 in defense 9 out of 9 years. 7 out of the 9 years they were top 5. 8 different defenders were sent to the pro bowl (Donnie Abraham, Hardy Nickerson, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, Shelton Quarles, and Ronde Barber) 5 of which were All Pro at some point. Sapp and Brooks were named Defensive player of the year during that span ( Sapp 1999) (Brooks 2002) The 2002 Buccaneers were the #1defense in yards allowed and points allowed. They gave up an oppose passer rating of 48.4. They were the last defense in NFL History to hold opposing teams to under 200 points (they gave up 196) They had 31 interceptions in regular season play. SO FAR, the Bucs defense during this time have had two first ballot Hall of Famers. (Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks) It would be no surprise to eventually see Lynch, Barber and Tony Dungy. I also personally believe Simeon Rice should make it. He is one of the most underrated players of all time. In his five healthy years as a Buccaneer he posted 11,15,15,12,and 14 sacks. In the 02 Post season he had 4.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 3 games. Simeon has 121 career sacks. Simeon Rice was one of the biggest reasons the Bucs final won a Super Bowl. Before 2001 the Bucs had to work with Marcus Jones, Regan Upshaw, Chidi Ahanotu, Steve White etc. Those guys were no where near the caliber of Rice. Who knows how many Super Bowls the Bucs could have won had Simeon been there in 99 and 2000, I truly believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame. Anyway, Go Bucs. Winston will lead us to the promise land. I believe.

While the song did not reach the Billboard Hot 100, it reached No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart and was a top-ten hit in many other European countries. Bono cites "Miss Sarajevo" as his favourite U2 song. "The camera follows the organizers through the tunnels and cellars of the city, giving a unique insight into life during a modern war, where civilians are the targets. The film captures the dark humour of the besieged Sarajevans, their stubborn refusal to be demoralised and suggests that surrealism and Dadaism are the appropriate responses to fanaticism." - Bono. The music video for this song, directed by Maurice Linnane, is a montage of three different events: the beauty contest described in the song, the original performance from the "Pavarotti and Friends" concert, and a tour through the streets of war-torn Sarajevo, under gunfire from the nearby troops. The video is featured on The Best of 1990-2000 DVD with a director's commentary, and a documentary entitled Missing Sarajevo. Carter and Bono's documentary collaboration reflects on the personal accounts of the civilians of Sarajevo, a city torn by modern warfare during the Siege of Sarajevo. This conflict stems from the ethnic struggle between Serb and Bosnian government forces. Once Bosnia and Herzegovina had declared their independence from Yugoslavia, the Serbs surrounded the capital, Sarajevo, as they planned to include a territory of the country as part of their new Serbian state of Republika Srpska.[6] This is the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare, lasting from April 1992 till February 1996. The population of Sarajevo was reduced to ruins, no longer having access to public transit, water, gas and electricity, depending greatly on relief agencies. By October 1992 no-fly zones were established by the UN, making it very difficult for any media cover or relief plans to be sent into the country. FILM DESCRIPTION: After parodying the idiosyncrasies of community theater devotees in the mock documentary Waiting for Guffman, actor/director Christopher Guest returns with another semi-improvised comedy that casts a satirical gaze on the world of championship dog breeding and training. A television crew is on hand to document the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show, and competition is fierce among the canine devotees vying for top honors. Salesman Gerry Fleck (Eugene Levy), who is cursed with two left feet (literally), and his wife Cookie (Catherine O'Hara) have entered their Norwich terrier "Winky" in competition. Wealthy and neurotic Meg Swan (Parker Posey) and her husband Hamilton (Michael Hitchcock) are on hand with their Weimaraner "Beatrice," who they fear may have been traumatized by watching them have sex. Scott Donlan (John Michael Higgins) and his life partner Stefan Vanderhoof (Michael McKean) have brought their beloved Shih Tzu, "Miss Agnes." Trophy wife Sherri Ann Cabot (Jennifer Coolidge) and her close friend and trainer Christy Cummings (Jane Lynch) are hoping for a repeat victory for Sheri's poodle, "Rhapsody In White." And Harlan Pepper (Guest), who operates a store specializing in fly-fishing gear, has decided to stack his bloodhound "Hubert" up against the competition. In addition to Guest, Levy, O'Hara, and Posey, several other veterans of the Waiting for Guffman cast also appear in Best in Show, including Fred Willard, Bob Balaban, and Lewis Arquette.
