Lake Huron (French: Lac Huron) is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. Hydrologically, it comprises the easterly portion of Lake Michigan–Huron, having the same surface elevation as its westerly counterpart, to which it is connected by the 5-mile-wide (8.0 km), 20-fathom-deep (120 ft; 37 m) Straits of Mackinac. It is shared on the east by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the west by the state of Michigan in the United States. The name of the lake is derived from early French explorers who named it for the Huron people inhabiting the region. The huronian glaciation was named due to evidence collected from Lake Huron region. The northern parts of the lake include the North Channel and Georgian Bay. The main inlet is the St. Marys River and the main outlet is the St. Clair.
By surface area, Lake Huron is the second-largest of the Great Lakes, with a surface area of 23,000 square miles (59,600 km2) making it the third-largest fresh water lake on Earth (and the fourth-largest lake, if the Caspian Sea is counted as a lake). By volume however, Lake Huron is only the third largest of the Great Lakes, being surpassed by Lake Michigan in this aspect. When measured at the Low Water Datum, the lake contains a volume of 850 cubic miles (3,540 km3) and a shoreline length (including islands) of 3,827 mi (6,159 km).
Huron refers to the Wendat indigenous people of North America and to their Wendat language, part of the Iroquoian languages family. Located to the north of the Great Lakes, they were Native allies to the French during the French and Indian War in North America. The term may also refer to:
Canada
The Great Lakes (also called the Laurentian Great Lakes, or the Great Lakes of North America) are a series of interconnected freshwater lakes located in northeastern North America, on the Canada–United States border, which connect to the Atlantic Ocean through the Saint Lawrence River. Consisting of Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron (or Michigan–Huron), Erie, and Ontario, they form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth, containing 21% of the world's surface fresh water by volume. The total surface is 94,250 square miles (244,106 km2), and the total volume (measured at the low water datum) is 5,439 cubic miles (22,671 km3). Due to their sea-like characteristics (rolling waves, sustained winds, strong currents, great depths, and distant horizons) the five Great Lakes have also long been referred to as inland seas. Lake Superior is the second largest lake in the world by area, and Lake Michigan is the largest lake that is entirely within one country. The southern half of the Great Lakes is surrounded by the Great Lakes Megalopolis.
Port Huron is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of St. Clair County. The population was 30,184 at the 2010 census. The city is adjacent to Port Huron Township but is administratively autonomous. Located along the St. Clair River, it is connected to Point Edward, Ontario in Canada via the Blue Water Bridge. The city lies at the southern end of Lake Huron and is the easternmost point on land in Michigan. Port Huron is home to two paper mills; Mueller brass; and many businesses related to tourism and the automotive industry. The city features a historic downtown area, boardwalk, marina, museum, lighthouse, and the McMorran Place arena and entertainment complex.
In 1814 following the War of 1812, the United States established Fort Gratiot at the base of Lake Huron. French colonists had a temporary trading post and fort at this site in the 17th century, but this developed as the first settled European-American population in the area. Until 1836, an Ojibwa reservation occupied land in part of the modern area of Port Huron. They were removed to west of the Mississippi in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
A lake is an area of variable size filled with water, localized in a basin, that is surrounded by land, apart from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean (except for sea lochs in Scotland and Ireland), and therefore are distinct from lagoons, and are also larger and deeper than ponds, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which are usually flowing. However most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams.
Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Other lakes are found in endorheic basins or along the courses of mature rivers. In some parts of the world there are many lakes because of chaotic drainage patterns left over from the last Ice Age. All lakes are temporary over geologic time scales, as they will slowly fill in with sediments or spill out of the basin containing them.
Many lakes are artificial and are constructed for industrial or agricultural use, for hydro-electric power generation or domestic water supply, or for aesthetic or recreational purposes.

Ontario Motorcycle Rides takes the Lake Huron Circle Lake Tour in July of 2011.
Built in 1871, the Joseph S. Fay was a 215 feet long and 33 feet wide wooden freighter. She was steam powered and propeller driven. On October 19th,1905, there was a major storm and the ship began to take on water prompting the captain to steer her toward the shore off Forty Mile Point, six miles north of Rogers City. The Fay ran aground approximately 900 feet offshore in 15-20 feet of water. Reportedly, most of the crew floated ashore on the Fay's pilot house after it broke free from the ship. Three crewmen swam ashore and the first mate drowned having succumbed to the cold and violent conditions. As time passed, the ship continued to break apart due to the constant movement of water in such depth. A large 150 foot section of its hull drifted ashore and rests on the beach approxima...

This is the first in a series of quick tips and insights when cruising on the Trent Severn Waterway. This time, we answer the question of whether there are special, or additional fees to use the lift locks (located at Kirkfield and Peterborough) or the Big Chute Marine Railway. Short answer is no, as the fees to use the lock system is charged by the foot per vessel for a specified period of time (daily, weekly or annually) and is not specific to any one lock. Give me some paper and a pen
And I will write you
The starry art of
Broken heart
Of golden dreams that fell apart
Behind the wall where sorrows fall
Like Rain
Give me some music and the moon
And I will sing
A ocean full of fallen stars
A landscape letter with this scar
Of cruel lies
Where on earth tried
Like Rain
I'm fallen and you know why
Cause like the sky you have me
And love me so
Then let me go
Like Rain
Build me a stairway to the past
And I will take you
Beyond the reasons to forget
Into dimensions of regret
Where memories sleep
And gently weeps
Like Rain
I'm fallen and you know why
Cause like the sky you have me
And love me so
Then let me go
Like Rain
MUSIC..
Give me some paper and a pen
And I will write you
The starry art of
Broken heart
Of golden dreams that fell apart
Behind the wall where sorrows fall
Like Rain
Behind the wall where sorrows fall
