'Did they bring these judges over from Australia?' Manny Pacquiao, others, react after Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez fight to controversial draw

And you thought that the Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather fight was going to leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

Manny Pacquiao led the charge of bemused viewers on Sunday, after the 'fight of the year' between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez ended in a draw, with each fighter winning on one judge's card and the third scoring it 114-114.

Fans left bewildered by Golovkin vs Canelo result

The boxing world is once again questioning the result of a major fight after the bout between GGG and Canelo Alvarez ended in a draw.

From the eyes of most people on social media, boxing experts and from HBO's round-by-round scorecard, the fight was clearly Golovkin's. He absorbed everything his opponent threw at him, and looked to be coming away with a victory for the ages.

However, shortly after the conclusion of the 12th round, expectance turned to confusion for fans of the Kazakhstani as the first judge's scorecard read out 118-110 for Canelo - and even the most one-eyed fan of the Mexican star would have baulked at such a decision.

The second judge scored it 115-113 for Golovkin, and the boos began to ring out in Las Vegas when the third score confirmed that there would be no winner.

"Did they bring these judges over from Australia?" Manny Pacquiao asked in a tweet, with other celebrities including UFC star Chris Weidman, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and veteran sportscaster Jim Rome weighing in on the decision.

Most of the online scorn was saved for judge Adalaide Byrd, whose inexplicable card, which gave ten rounds to Canelo, will be debated for years to come.

Both men came into the fight full of confidence - GGG had never tasted defeat as a professional and Alvarez's only loss came at the hands of Mayweather himself, back in 2013.

It probably would have happened anyway, but now after this controversial finish, a re-match seems all but certain to take place.
