Interesting, stylised art from the Okkervil River offshoot. All involving a trip into the desert and messing about with barrels of white goo, apparently! ... Love those white wellies!
I can sense they're Breaking Bad fanatics!
The Fellow Travelers release will also contain a print-only essay that Jonathan Meiburg wrote about touring and tour life, in a beautifully printed booklet designed by Sub Pop’s Jeff Kleinsmith.
Yap, Texan outift Shearwater are back with a real interesting series of cover versions of songs by bands they admire and have toured with down the years!
Fellow Travelers, geddit? ... How clever!
An array of acts of varying styles and quality get the cover treatment here. From quality artists like Folk Implosion and David Thomas Broughton all the way down the sewer to Coldplay!
In a press release, Jonathan Meiburg likened the process of making Fellow Travelers to ...
"leafing through a scrapbook" that "brought back the highs and lows of a decade of touring, from dives in Oklahoma and squats in Slovenia to the Fillmore West, the Bataclán, and the MGM Grand..."Liverpudlian leftfielders Clinic - as well as having their song “Tomorrow” covered here - appear on the album helping out with “Fucked Up Life”, while Sharon Van Etten also appears, singing on "A Wake for the Minotaur" (not strictly a cover version; rather a collaboration between Shearwater and Sharon that was originally released on Record Store Day.)
Okkervil River/Shearwater boy, Meiburg said of the record ..
Sub Pop will release Fellow Travelers, our second full-length record for them, just in time for you to give it away to friends and loved ones. This is a very different record for us, as it’s composed almost entirely of songs by bands we’ve toured with over the years, re-imagined and renovated. The result, I’m a little surprised to say, is my favorite Shearwater album so far.The album drops on November 26th.
