The polo shirt is a men's style staple and business casual essential. Some viewers think Alpha hasn't given the polo enough love! True, he hasn't always been a 'lover' of the polo, but he's changed his opinion to a degree. His personal style evolution has taken a turn toward classic menswear including the polo. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is giving the polo shirt lots of love by showing you how to wear them.
When Alpha is talking polo, he's talking about the 'style' not the 'brand'. And not all polos are created equally. Alpha doesn't like the polo made out of piqued cotton, because after about three washes the collar is whacked, the sleeves are stretched-out, and the shirt body shrinks up super bad. They suck 'real bad'! Tasso Elba (Macy's), Banana Republic, and Ministry of Supply are Alpha's picks.
Four Acceptable Ways to Wear a Polo
1. Shorts - plain white polo with flat-front shorts either tucked or untucked with flip flops, driving mocs, or boat shoes
2. Jeans - dark wash jeans, white polo, slip on loafers
3. Business casual 1.0 - fit of shirt and chinos both need amazing! If not, you'll look like Sloppy Stan. The pants should fit you perfectly as well as the shirt.
4. Business casual 2.0 - The black polo is simple and sexy to combine with slacks or pants for a dinner date, bar, or business meeting.
Fit, Fabric, and Function
It boils down to fit, fabric, and function! Fit? The polo shirt needs to fit you properly: snug through the chest, shoulder region, and arm; if tight through the body, it's too small. Fabric? The polos that Alpha wears are made out of a nicer cotton and refined fabric such as the Ministry of Supply polo shirt that Alpha is wearing. Function? He's also wearing their chinos which are like athletic pants but look like slacks. They are comfortable, easy to move in, and keep you cool. Polo shirts are an essential part of most men's wardrobe. They're a little more dressed up than t-shirts, but they're not nearly as formal a actual dress shirts or even casual button up shirts.
Polos are extremely versatile. You can wear them with shorts, jeans, chinos or even wool trousers. In fact, you can even tuck them in and wear them under a blazer or sport coat.
The problem is, many men don't understand how polo shirts should fit, and they end up wearing ill-fitting polos that make them look shorter and fatter than they really are.
This is especially true for short men because it's hard to find a polo shirt that flatters men 5'8" and under (at least from major brands, without any alterations).
When it comes to how polo shirts should fit, there are three things to pay attention to:
#1: Overall length
#2: Body width (tight vs. baggy)
#3: Sleeve length and width
Once you understand how each part of the polo shirt should fit - and what to look out for in terms of fit mistakes - you'll probably wonder where you can actually buy a polo shirt that fits properly.

Polo shirt
A polo shirt, also known as a golf shirt and tennis shirt, is a form of shirt with a collar, a placket with typically two or three buttons, and an optional pocket.
All three terms may be used interchangeably. Polo shirts are usually made of knitted cloth (rather than woven cloth), usually piqué cotton or, less commonly, silk, merino wool, or synthetic fibers. A dress-length version of the shirt is called a polo dress.
History
History of the tennis shirt
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, tennis players ordinarily wore "tennis whites" consisting of long-sleeved white button-up shirts (worn with the sleeves rolled up), flannel trousers, and ties. This attire presented problems for ease of play and comfort.
René Lacoste, the French seven-time Grand Slam tennis champion, felt that the stiff tennis attire was too cumbersome and uncomfortable. He designed a white, short-sleeved, loosely-knit piqué cotton (he called the cotton weave jersey petit piqué) shirt with an unstarched, flat, protruding collar, a buttoned placket, and a shirt-tail longer in back than in front (known today as a "tennis tail"; see below), which he first wore at the 1926 U.S. Open championship. Beginning in 1927, Lacoste placed a crocodile emblem on the left breast of his shirts, as the American press had begun to refer to him as "The Crocodile", a nickname which he embraced.

Polo
Polo is a team sport played on horseback. The objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Players score by driving a small white plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet. The traditional sport of polo is played on a grass field up to 300 by 160 yards (270 by 150 m). Each polo team consists of four riders and their mounts. Field polo is played with a solid plastic sphere (ball) which has replaced the wooden version of the ball in much of the sport. In arena polo, only three players are required per team and the game usually involves more maneuvering and shorter plays at lower speeds due to space limitations of the arena. Arena polo is played with a small air-filled ball, similar to a small football. The modern game lasts roughly two hours and is divided into periods called chukkas (occasionally rendered as "chukkers"). Polo is played professionally in 16 countries. It was formerly, but is not currently, an Olympic sport.

Ministry of Supply
The Ministry of Supply (MoS) was a department of the UK Government formed in 1939 to co-ordinate the supply of equipment to all three British armed forces, headed by the Minister of Supply. There was, however, a separate ministry responsible for aircraft production and the Admiralty retained responsibilities for supplying the Royal Navy. During the war-years the MoS was based at Shell Mex House in The Strand, London.
The Ministry of Supply also took over all army research establishments in 1939, and in 1946 the Ministry of Aircraft Production was abolished and the MoS took over its responsibilities for aircraft, including the associated research establishments. In the same year it also took on increased responsibilities for atomic weapons, including the H-bomb development programme.
The Ministry of Supply was abolished in 1959 and its responsibilities passed to the Ministry of Aviation, the War Office and the Air Ministry. The latter two ministries were subsequently merged with the Admiralty to form the Ministry of Defence.

The polo shirt is a men's style staple and business casual essential. Some viewers think Alpha hasn't given the polo enough love! True, he hasn't always been a 'lover' of the polo, but he's changed his opinion to a degree. His personal style evolution has taken a turn toward classic menswear including the polo. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is giving the polo shirt lots of love by showing you how to wear them.
When Alpha is talking polo, he's talking about the 'style' not the 'brand'. And not all polos are created equally. Alpha doesn't like the polo made out of piqued cotton, because after about three washes the collar is whacked, the sleeves are stretched-out, and the shirt body shrinks up super bad. They suck 'real bad'! Tasso Elba (Macy's), Banana Republic, and Ministry of Supply are Alpha's picks.
Four Acceptable Ways to Wear a Polo
1. Shorts - plain white polo with flat-front shorts either tucked or untucked with flip flops, driving mocs, or boat shoes
2. Jeans - dark wash jeans, white polo, slip on loafers
3. Business casual 1.0 - fit of shirt and chinos both need amazing! If not, you'll look like Sloppy Stan. The pants should fit you perfectly as well as the shirt.
4. Business casual 2.0 - The black polo is simple and sexy to combine with slacks or pants for a dinner date, bar, or business meeting.
Fit, Fabric, and Function
It boils down to fit, fabric, and function! Fit? The polo shirt needs to fit you properly: snug through the chest, shoulder region, and arm; if tight through the body, it's too small. Fabric? The polos that Alpha wears are made out of a nicer cotton and refined fabric such as the Ministry of Supply polo shirt that Alpha is wearing. Function? He's also wearing their chinos which are like athletic pants but look like slacks. They are comfortable, easy to move in, and keep you cool. Ministry of Supply has all of the basics: tees, pants, jackets, dress shirts. The quality is excellent.

The problem is, many men don't understand how polo shirts should fit, and they end up wearing ill-fitting polos that make them look shorter and fatter than they really are.

The polo shirt is a men's style staple and business casual essential. Some viewers think Alpha hasn't given the polo enough love! True, he hasn't always been a 'lover' of the polo, but he's changed his opinion to a degree. His personal style evolution has taken a turn toward classic menswear including the polo. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is giving the polo shirt lots of love by showing you how to wear them.
When Alpha is talking polo, he's talking about the 'style' not the 'brand'. And not all polos are created equally. Alpha doesn't like the polo made out of piqued cotton, because after about three washes the collar is whacked, the sleeves are stretched-out, and the shirt body shrinks up super bad. They suck 'real bad'! Tasso Elba (Macy's), Banana Republic, and Ministry of Supply are Alpha's picks.
Four Acceptable Ways to Wear a Polo
1. Shorts - plain white polo with flat-front shorts either tucked or untucked with flip flops, driving mocs, or boat shoes
2. Jeans - dark wash jeans, white polo, slip on loafers
3. Business casual 1.0 - fit of shirt and chinos both need amazing! If not, you'll look like Sloppy Stan. The pants should fit you perfectly as well as the shirt.
4. Business casual 2.0 - The black polo is simple and sexy to combine with slacks or pants for a dinner date, bar, or business meeting.
Fit, Fabric, and Function
It boils down to fit, fabric, and function! Fit? The polo shirt needs to fit you properly: snug through the chest, shoulder region, and arm; if tight through the body, it's too small. Fabric? The polos that Alpha wears are made out of a nicer cotton and refined fabric such as the Ministry of Supply polo shirt that Alpha is wearing. Function? He's also wearing their chinos which are like athletic pants but look like slacks. They are comfortable, easy to move in, and keep you cool. Ministry of Supply has all of the basics: tees, pants, jackets, dress shirts. The quality is excellent.

Four Acceptable Ways to Wear a Polo
1. Shorts - plain white polo with flat-front shorts either tucked or untucked with flip flops, driving mocs, or boat shoes
2. Jeans - dark wash jeans, white polo, slip on loafers
3. Business casual 1.0 - fit of shirt and chinos both need amazing! If not, you'll look like Sloppy Stan. The pants should fit you perfectly as well as the shirt.
4. Business casual 2.0 - The black polo is simple and sexy to combine with slacks or pants for a dinner date, bar, or business meeting.
Fit, Fabric, and Function
It boils down to fit, fabric, and function! Fit? The polo shirt needs to fit you properly: snug through the chest, shoulder region, and arm; if tight through the body, it's too small. Fabric? The polos that Alpha wears are made out of a nicer cotton and refined fabric such as the Ministry of Supply polo shirt that Alpha is wearing. Function? He's also wearing their chinos which are like athletic pants but look like slacks. They are comfortable, easy to move in, and keep you cool. Ministry of Supply has all of the basics: tees, pants, jackets, dress shirts. The quality is excellent.
