New Fall Festival: exceptional musicians in unusual locations

When you think of music festivals, do you think of boozy open-air events for hardy types? Then look forward to something totally different. The New Fall Festival is not only held indoors, it also takes place in locations where pop concerts rarely venture, for example in wood-panelled concert halls, theatres, tucked-away church halls and museum spaces. So it comes as no surprise that the festival, with its fine array of electro and indie acts, has become a firm favourite with many loyal fans.

This year, it will run from 16 to 19 November in both Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. It will be the seventh time that the festival welcomes an audience of music lovers with high expectations of atmosphere, acoustic quality and artists. What makes the line-up so special is that it is not chosen by sales or chart position, but by the quality of the music. From singer-songwriters to electro and indie, the programme is always a successful blend of around 40 international stars, newcomers and real finds. The festival also provides a platform for regional bands from North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg. In 2017, the line-up includes Tom Odell, Anna Ternheim, Little Dragon and Alice Merton. The New Fall Festival also tries to be different in other ways – over the next three years, for example, it aspires to become a carbon-neutral event, with electric vehicles ferrying the artists around.
