CWA’s Shelton urges action to stop GOP tax hike on workers

WASHINGTON—Communications Workers President Chris Shelton is warning workers and their allies to act now against a planned Republican tax hike on the middle class. “You may hear from Trump that it’s ‘tax reform.’ I want to caution you: That’s the usual bullshit,” the blunt former telephone lineman told union activists...

socialism in usa

Socialism is a common-sense path to a fairer, more prosperous and more democratic USA. Socialism is also a desperate necessity as capitalism and its unrelenting drive for profits threaten to make our planet uninhabitable. Working families in America – the 99% - between us create all the products and services that make our country the richest nation in the history of humankind. It doesn’t make sense that these collectively produced resources are owned and controlled by a tiny handful of billionaires. The fight for socialism is a dynamic process to fulfill the vision of a future of peace, justice and fairness for our nation and our world.

Marxism demands a concrete analysis of a concrete situation. This is fundamental to an understanding of Marxist strategy and tactics.  The concept of strategy and tactics must be updated and applied to the specific situation the working class is dealing with at any given moment - in this case the post-election period and Trump's presidency.  In particular, neoliberal capitalism and the specific gravity of its current crisis and how it impacts the working class must be understood.  The GOP drive to implement right-to-work laws all across the country is clearly key but it's not the only issue. Alvaro Rodriguez, a...

It has been a busy year for the Missouri/Kansas District of the Communist Party and next year will be no different! While most of the Party's work is done through the numerous unions, community groups and coalitions that members are leaders in, two specific Party events stand out. First is the day-long Annual District Leadership Retreat in March attended by about 50 members and 6 elected officials, as well as Party national chair, John Bachtell. The Annual Retreat brings leaders together from all over the District to discuss, plan and prioritize work for the year. Members came from St....

What is CPUSA's view on healthcare? Do you believe government should provide healthcare for all?
  • A
Hi, and thanks for writing in. We consider health care, including full reproductive and mental health services, a basic human right.  We support anything that expands access to health care and oppose anything that restricts it.  We support the Affordable Care Act as a first, but insufficient, step toward full national health care, and we support the growing movement for single-payer/Medicare for All.  We also look to Cuba's groundbreaking public health system, where all people receive full medical care without any billing or involvement from insurance companies. Since I've got a little space left, though, I want to talk about the idea that the government is the entity providing health care to people under socialism.  Health care is provided by...
