1988 (MCMLXXXVIII) was a leap year starting on Friday (dominical letter CB) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1988th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 988th year of the 2nd millennium, the 88th year of the 20th century, and the 9th year of the 1980s decade.
In the 20th century, the year 1988 has the most Roman numeral digits (11).
1988 was a crucial year in the early history of the Internet—it was the year of the first well-known computer virus, the 1988 Internet worm. The first permanent intercontinental Internet link was made between the United States (NSFNET) and Europe (Nordunet) as well as the first Internet-based chat protocol, Internet Relay Chat. The concept of the World Wide Web was first discussed at CERN in 1988.
The Soviet Union began its major restructuring towards a mixed economy at the beginning of 1988 and began its gradual collapse. The first extrasolar planet, Gamma Cephei Ab (confirmed in 2002) was detected this year and the World Health Organization began its mission to eradicate polio, a feat that is nearly complete as of 2015.
With: Nick Ross and Sue Cook The programme which enables the viewer to solve and prevent crime. Synopsis: The programme where viewers across the country can help police solve serious crime. Last month in the Cleveland town of Hartlepool, a cash security van was attacked as it stopped at a housing estate sub-post office. Five masked men, armed with pickaxes, a shotgun and ammonia spray, got away with many thousand pounds in cash and stamps. Witnesses who tried to call the police found their phones were dead. The gang had cut lines to the whole estate. Five cars were used in the robbery, all of them stolen in the North. One, a rare type of BMW, was taken in September. Where was it kept for those four months? A viewer who remembers seeing the car could lead police to the men the...

SO. Another day of life in the 80's. The things and electronics I used in 1988. One thing I loved doing was recording on cassettes OFF the radio. This was where I got my 90% of my music. Since it was expensive for me to buy reocrd or cassette albums at $10 each. Plus no need to waste $10 for just that ONE song out of those albums we like! Other typical things I loved doing was using the VCR. recording OFF TV to my VHS video cassettes. typically cartoons or shows I saw as a young kid. Another thing I LOVED to do then was riding my 10 speed bike. That bike was a 1986 Huffy Techtra 12 speed. I paid $109 for it then. This was my PRIDE AND JOY!
And now, to wrap up my birthday special, here is a March 1988 episode of the Price Is Right. There's lot of excitement abound in this episode today. Will the players rake up the prizes? No copyright infringement is intended.
