It is a planned settlement that began construction in 1965 and was named after Northern Ireland's first Prime Minister, James Craig, 1st Viscount Craigavon. It was planned as to link Lurgan and Portadown. Among locals today, "Craigavon" refers mainly to the area spanning the lakeland area between Lurgan and Portadown. The lakes are a popular watersports training and recreational area.Other sports facilities in Craigavon include Craigavon ski slope, golf courses, recreation centre,soccer/GAA pitches, cycle paths and walking trails - all a stones throw from Tannaghmore Gardens Petting Farm and close to Lough Neagh Nature Reserve.
Craigavon sometimes refers to the much larger Craigavon Urban Area, which includes Craigavon, Lurgan, Lough Neagh Nature Reserve,Portadown, Waringstown and Bleary.
Tesco Extra is a chain of mainly out-of-town hypermarkets, owned and operated by the United Kingdom's largest retailer, Tesco.
They are huge hypermarkets located at the outer-city (exceptions include Hexham Extra, Kingston upon Hull Extra, Stevenage Extra, Wigan Extra, Grimsby Extra, Galashiels Extra, Slough Extra, Eastbourne Extra, Yeovil Extra and Burnley Extra, which are in the heart of the town centre and Cardiff Western Avenue Extra and Cardiff Pengam Green Extra are located in the inner-city) that stock nearly all of Tesco's product ranges - with large car parks free for about 3 hours. The first Extra opened in 1997. The 100th store opened in the 2004/2005 financial year (specifically opening 29 November 2004, located on the Newport Road in Stafford, Staffordshire). The number of these is now being increased by about 20 a year, mainly by conversions from the second category. The largest store in England by floor space is Tesco Extra in Pitsea, near Basildon with floorspace of 11,600 m² (125,000 sq ft) and the largest in Scotland is the Port Glasgow store, which opened in July 2007 with a floorspace of 10,200 m² (110,000 sq ft). The largest in Wales is the Tesco Extra in Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff, 9,800 m² (105,000 sq ft) constructed in 2007.

Here are views over a closed down B&Q; Warehouse store in Craigavon, County Armagh. I also captured views around the Tesco Extra store, Rushmere Centre and views of Craigavon Lakes. The B&Q; store has been abandoned for approximately 1 year now but has not suffered a lot of vandalism. Apart from a few cracked windows it appears pretty much intact. I expected to see rubbish abandoned within the yards of the store but this is not the case. It seems a shame to leave such a huge building idle. The Rushmere Centre is one of the busiest in Northern Ireland and regularly has long queues waiting to get in. This flight was on an early Sunday evening and was closed. You can see the Craigavon Lakes in the background of Rushmere looking very well in the evening sunshine. The Tesco Extra store i...
Derry or, more officially, Londonderry is the second largest city of Northern Ireland. The city is also nicknamed the Maiden City by virtue of the fact that its walls were never breached despite being besieged on three separate occasions. Derry is the only remaining walled city in Ireland that is completely intact and it is one of the finest examples of a walled city in Europe. There are many historical buildings that can be visited when walking down the City Walls. St Columb’s Cathedral is the mother church of the Ireland Diocese of Derry. Situated along the City Walls, First Derry Presbyterian Church has recently been re-opened and is now used as a place of worship. Another admirable church of great importance is the neo-Gothic St Augustine’s Church. Located within the historic wal...

Places to see in ( Craigavon - UK ) Craigavon is a planned settlement in northern County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Its construction began in 1965 and it was named after Northern Ireland's first Prime Minister: James Craig, 1st Viscount Craigavon. It was intended to be the heart of a new linear city incorporating Lurgan and Portadown, but this plan was abandoned and less than half of the proposed work was done.[3] Among locals today, "Craigavon" refers to the area between the two towns. It is built beside two artificial lakes and is made up of a large residential area (Brownlow), a second smaller one (Mandeville), plus a central area (Highfield) that includes a substantial shopping centre, a courthouse and the district council headquarters. The lakes, a wildlife haven, are surrounded by w...

Students from eight second level schools debated the motion “This House believes that public transport is the future, the automobile is the past” at the quarter finals of the Northern Ireland Schools Debating competition in early March, which were supported by Translink through its yLink campaign – www.translink.co.uk/ylink/. Translink is encouraging young people to recognise the many benefits of public transport and this is the second consecutive year that that the company has supported the debating competition. The competition recognises the enthusiasm and vision of these young academics and it is refreshing to see so many young people passionate about public transport especially as they progress through their education and into the world or work.
Places to see in ( Portadown - UK ) Portadown is a town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The town sits on the River Bann in the north of the county, about 24 miles southwest of Belfast. It is in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area and had a population of about 22,000 at the 2011 Census. For some purposes, Portadown is treated as part of the "Craigavon Urban Area", alongside Craigavon and Lurgan. Although Portadown can trace its origins to the early 17th century Plantation of Ulster, it was not until the Victorian era and the arrival of the railway that it became a major town. It earned the nickname "hub of the North" due to it being a major railway junction; where the Great Northern Railway's line diverged for Belfast, Dublin, Armagh and Derry. In the 19th and 20t...

Places to see in ( Lurgan - UK ) Lurgan is a town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The town is near the southern shore of Lough Neagh and in the north-eastern corner of the county. Lurgan is about 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Belfast and is linked to the city by both the M1 motorway and the Belfast–Dublin railway line. It had a population of about 23,000 at the 2001 Census. It is within the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon district. Lurgan is characteristic of many Plantation of Ulster settlements, with its straight, wide planned streets and rows of cottages. It is the site of a number of historic listed buildings including Brownlow House and the former town hall. Historically the town was known as a major centre for the production of textiles (mainly linen) after the industrial rev...
