The Commodore 64, also known as the C64, C-64, C= 64, or occasionally CBM 64 or VIC-64, is an 8-bit home computer introduced in January 1982 by Commodore International. It is listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time, with independent estimates placing the number sold between 10 and 17 million units.
Volume production started in early 1982, with machines being released on to the market in August at a price of US$595 (roughly equivalent to $1,500 in 2016). Preceded by the Commodore VIC-20 and Commodore PET, the C64 takes its name from its 64 kilobytes (65,536 bytes) of RAM, and has technologically superior sound and graphical specifications when compared to some earlier systems such as the Apple II and Atari 800, with multi-color sprites and a more advanced sound processor.
The C64 dominated the low-end computer market for most of the 1980s. For a substantial period (1983–1986), the C64 had between 30% and 40% share of the US market and two million units sold per year, outselling the IBM PC compatibles, Apple Inc. computers, and the Atari 8-bit family of computers. Sam Tramiel, a later Atari president and the son of Commodore's founder, said in a 1989 interview, "When I was at Commodore we were building 400,000 C64s a month for a couple of years." In the UK market, the 64 faced competition from the BBC Micro and the ZX Spectrum but the 64 was still one of the two most-popular computers in the UK.
Commodore generally refers to Commodore (rank), a naval rank. It may also refer to:
The Commodore (published 1945) is a Horatio Hornblower novel written by C. S. Forester. It was published in the United States under the title Commodore Hornblower.
Having achieved fame and financial security, Captain Sir Horatio Hornblower has married Lady Barbara Leighton (née Wellesley) and is preparing to settle down to unaccustomed life as the squire of Smallbridge in Kent. He still yearns to serve at sea and accepts with alacrity when the Admiralty appoints him a commodore, puts him in command of a squadron and sends him on a diplomatic and military mission to the Baltic. His primary aim is to bring Russia into the war against Napoleon.
Hornblower is shown dealing with the problems of squadron command, and using naval mortars (carried on special ships known as bomb vessels) to destroy a French prize. This leads to the French invasion of Swedish Pomerania. Later his squadron calls at Kronstadt, where he meets with Russian officials, including Tsar Alexander I, who is favourably impressed by Hornblower and his squadron.
A game is structured form of play, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool. Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more often an expression of aesthetic or ideological elements. However, the distinction is not clear-cut, and many games are also considered to be work (such as professional players of spectator sports or games) or art (such as jigsaw puzzles or games involving an artistic layout such as Mahjong, solitaire, or some video games).
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational, or psychological role.
Attested as early as 2600 BC, games are a universal part of human experience and present in all cultures. The Royal Game of Ur, Senet, and Mancala are some of the oldest known games.
This is a list of games for the Commodore 64 personal computer system, sorted alphabetically. See Lists of video games for other platforms.

When I tell people I recently bought a Commodore 64 the first question I get asked is "what games did it have?" what they are really asking is what games did it have they would know about. So with that in mind I wanted to see just how many games on the Commodore were still relevant today. This list includes game remakes and ports from companies still making games today. In the video above I tried to include as many games as I could but I know I have missed a lot of games, so many in fact I feel like I could make a second video to follow it up. I'm presenting some methods to prolong the life of a Commodore 64 in this video. Includes recapping, heatsinking and even a crude overvoltage protection using a suppressor diode. Near the end of the video I mention some further preventive maintenance measures. Replacing the bridge rectifier and the voltage regulators might also be a good idea. Based on the 1982 box office smash film, you get to take control of your own Ghostbusters franchise and save the city from getting into a slimey, ghoulie mess. The game starts with you choosing your car and a selection of spook-zapping equipment (take the ghost bait!!), all of which costs money, before hitting the streets to catch some ghosts. New York city is represented as a grid of roads and buildings and you plot a course to one of the destinations using the Ghostbuster logo. If a building starts flashing, it means that there is a ghost there to be caught. Upon arrival, you...

Yes I have a C64 which I kept hidden from the world which was alongside my Amiga all this time! Though it has taken me on quite a journey, it is the old breadbin style, came with 1541 floppy drive and datasette. However it's faulty and has some issues which i've spent a few months on and off trying to resurrect it, adjusting the tape azimuth, replacing capacitors. A video covering the repair of a Commodore 64 which displayed a black screen. This system would not boot from cart and showed no signs of life. Also covers other causes of the black screen fault. The music comes from the De Wolfe LP "High Climber" by Simon Park.
Excited to present the final part of the Stereo SID project i'm doing! The SID2SID board by 8bitventures, with the Mssiah cartrdige. If you havent seen Part 1, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/WqlpyVzvgyk The SID2SID mod is a way to add an extra SID chip in order to add three extra channels, totaling six, which can be used with the Mssiah software. However this mod by itself will not allow Stereo music from games despite having two SID chips in there. In this video I build the SID2SID mod. In part two, I will modify it so that it can use two different SID chips , the old 6581 and the newer 8580 simultaneously as well as having each of them work at the same time for each speaker channel.
Komm schalt mich an
Und dann
Programmieren wir unsre Welt
Und mehr als 8 Bit brauch ich nicht
Doch genau darum ... ich dich
Und deine Stimme klingt zu mir
So spiele ich ein Spiel mit dir
Du und ich
Wir funktionoeren für alle Zeit
Komm schalt mich an
Komm schalt mich an
Und dann
Programmieren wir unsre Welt
Du und ich
Wir funktionieren für alle Zeit
Komm spiel mit mir
Und dann
Programmieren wir unsre Welt
