The Middle East (also called the Mid East) is a transcontinental region centered on Western Asia and Egypt. The corresponding adjective is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner. Formerly, the Eurocentric synonym Near East (as opposed to Far East) was commonly used. Arabs, Azeris, Kurds, Persians, and Turks constitute the largest ethnic groups in the region by population, while Armenians, Assyrians, Circassians, Copts, Druze, Jews, Maronites, Somalis, and other ethnic and ethno-religious groups form significant minorities.
The History of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, with the (geo-political) importance of the region being recognized for millennia. Several major religions have their origins in the Middle East, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; the Baha'i faith, Mandaeism, Unitarian Druze, and numerous other belief systems were also established within the region. The Middle East generally has a hot, arid climate, with several major rivers providing irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas such as the Nile Delta in Egypt, the Tigris and Euphrates watersheds of Mesopotamia, and most of what is known as the Fertile Crescent. Most of the countries that border the Persian Gulf have vast reserves of crude oil, with the dictatorships of the Arabian Peninsula in particular benefiting from petroleum exports. In modern times the Middle East remains a strategically, economically, politically, culturally and religiously sensitive region.
Middle or The Middle may refer to:
East is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. East is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of west and is perpendicular to north and south.
The word east comes from Middle English est, from Old English ēast, which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *aus-to- or *austra- "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn". This is similar to Old High German *ōstar "to the east", Latin aurora "dawn", and Greek ēōs or heōs.Ēostre, a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification of both dawn and the cardinal points.
By convention, the right hand side of a map is east. This convention has developed from the use of a compass, which places north at the top.
To go east using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 90°.
East is the direction toward which the Earth rotates about its axis, and therefore the general direction from which the Sun appears to rise. The practice of praying towards the East is older than Christianity, but has been adopted by this religion as the Orient was thought of as containing mankind's original home. Hence, most Christian churches are oriented towards the east.
National Geographic or NatGeo may refer to:
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.
How two feuding countries are tearing apart the Middle East. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The Saudis and Iranians have never actually declared war on each other. Instead, they fight indirectly by supporting opposing sides in other countries and inciting conflicts. This is known as proxy warfare. And it’s had a devastating effect on the region. Countries, especially poor ones, can’t function if there are larger countries pulling strings within their borders. And that’s exactly what's happening in the Middle East. The Saudi-Iranian rivalry has become a fight over influence, and the whole region is a battlefield. The Middle East is at the center of everything, and is home to many ethnic groups which don't always get along. The middle east is usually associated with muslims and arabs, but muslim arabs are only a part of the middle east. The middle east is also home to Turks, Persians, Kurds, Jews, Assyrians and many others. Most of the countries of the middle east are muslim, but Israel is jewish, and Lebanon has a large christian minority. But islam is dividing into two main groups, the sunnis and the shias. Shia muslims mostly live in Iran, southern Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, and Northern Yemen, while Sunni muslims are the most common muslims worldwide. Iran and Saudi Arabia take advantage of the sunni-shia devide to claim spheres of influence in the middle east, and many ...

Colbert Held is a former United States Foreign Service officer who has amassed a photo collection spanning 48 years and 17 countries. He did so to have a detailed, photographic record of all the landscapes he visited, a complete geographical archive of his own. What's particular about his collection is that it captured the Middle Eastern history that escaped documentation. Viewed now, photographs from the past reveal an evolution from an "older" way of living to modernity—or a look back to better times pulverized by current wars. Filmed by Jennifer Smart in collaboration with the Middle East Institute, this short documentary was inspired by Baylor University's Oral Memoirs of Colbert Colgate "Cokie" Held. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Short Film Showcase: http://bi...

Peaceful and tranquil, Oman occupies the southeastern part of the Arabian peninsula and has long been an important gateway for trade between Africa and Asia, once controlling the lucrative trade in frankincense. A land of ancient seafarers, and home to the legendary Sinbad, historically the country was long closed off to the outside world and, even today, still exudes a captivating aura of myth and mystery. A compelling blend of the old and the new, its impeccably maintained capital, Muscat combines traditional Arabic and Islamic styles with ancient fortifications and architectural treasures that sets it apart from many other modern cities in the Middle East. Today, Oman enjoys a reputation as a modern Arabic country that retains much of its old desert traditions. Outside the cities, its...

Ever thought about where else to visit in the middle east? Only an hours flight away from Dubai and you can reach Muscat the capital of Oman. I spent 4 days and 3 night here exploring the city and travelling out into the ocean to go Dolphin watching. (One of my top experiences ever!) Tips for when visiting Oman- From the airport they have Airport taxis and they prefer it if you get one of those instead of the orange and white local taxis. Local taxis do not run on meters so I advise you to ask the taxi driver first how much your journey will be before getting into the taxi. You can negotiate with taxi drivers if you have a good understanding of how much it'll cost you to get to where you want to go. I always asked the hotel staff what they thought the prices should be and if the t...

SHOW NOTES AND MP3: https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=24897 Today James talks to political analyst and commentator Sharmine Narwani on the explosive events in the Gulf this week and what they tell us about the changing power relations in the Middle East. From the wind down of the Syrian terrorist insurgency to the shock resignation of the Lebanese PM and the Game of Thrones in the House of Saud, a new regional picture is emerging, one in which two power blocs are competing for the upper hand in the new Middle East. Narwani breaks down this new dynamic and paints the picture of where things are heading in this dynamic region.

The Middle East one day, it blew in, swept away
In comes the sunshine, story turned to strange
In walking comes a smile, I didn't know the day
She sits down beside me, perfectly arranged
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
She wanders all around, will she make it on fries and coffee
Bigger words then tears, I'm afraid of what it might be
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
And she's bouncing in and out of nowhere
Ain't nobody help me on the outside
Gotta make it through to the inside
And I'm talking strange
Ain't nobody help me on the outside
Gotta make it through to the inside
And I'm talking strange
Talking strange
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
It's alright, she leaves it all behind
We all run for the Middle East sometimes
Little mind yeah can take us anywhere
Escape us anywhere, escape us everywhere
