Ansgar (latinized Ansgarius; Old Norse Ásgeirr) is a Germanic given name, composed of the elements ans "god", and gar "spear". Saint Ansgar, (801 – 865) was an archbishop of Hamburg-Bremen, active in the Christianization of Scandinavia. His feast day is 3 February.
Ansgar is the Old High German form of the name. The form Asger was in use in Denmark in the medieval period. The Old English cognate of the name is Ōsgār (the given name Oscar is however etymologically unrelated, being of Irish origin). Modern variants of the name include Norwegian Asgeir, Icelandic Ásgeir, Danish Asger, Eske, Esge, Asgar, Asker.

Dýrð í dauðaþögn is the debut album by the Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir Trausti. The album was recorded in three or four months in the summer of 2012. Most of the original Icelandic lyrics were written by Ásgeir's father.
The album reached number thirty-four in Denmark, and number one in Iceland where it has since been awarded triple platinum certification. It became the best selling debut album ever in Iceland. It is also reported to be owned by one in every ten people in Iceland.
As well as being nominated for the Best Album of the Year award at the 2012 Nordic Music Prize, the album won the Album of the Year at the 2012 Icelandic Music Awards and it received a Kraumur Award.
In the Silence, an English language version of the album, translated by the American musician John Grant, was released online on 28 October, 2013, and physically on January 27, 2014. Only the vocal part is different from Dýrð í dauðaþögn.
All songs written and composed by Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson and Einar Georg Einarsson except where noted.

He has had a Christmas hit with his song "Hvítir skór" in collaboration with Blaz Roca. The single stayed at the top of the Icelandic Singles Chart for 9 consecutive weeks from December 2012 to the end of January 2013.

I gave you tomorrow’s useless broken try, to make our world alive. I’m free from lover’s breathless scream, following me. Perhaps you could just take one small chance, and see maybe you need me. I’m the man that stands behind you, real calm while you prove yourself Understand that there is someone waiting, till the curtains close. Me, I’m a watercolour washing off into the deepest sea.
