“Shooter” star Josh Stewart has signed on for the upcoming Focus Features film “Mustang” opposite Matthias Schoenaerts, Gideon Adlon, Susan Sarandon, and Bruce Dern.
Alain Goldman and Molly Hallam of Legende Films are producing, with production having started in Nevada. French director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre is helming from his own script, co-written with Mona Fastvold and Brock Norman Brock. Focus has not yet dated the project.
Schoenaerts portrays a violent convict, who is given the chance to participate in a rehabilitation therapy program involving the training of wild mustangs. He then forms a bond with a difficult horse, triggering past emotional issues.
Stewart will play the eager, strung out cellmate of Schoenaerts’ character. Sarandon will play the prison therapist and Adlon will portray Schoenaerts’ character’s daughter.
Stewart most recently starred as the lead villain in USA’s “Shooter” opposite Ryan Phillippe and in Netflix’s “War Machine” with Brad Pitt. He will topline the fourth installment of “Insidious,” titled “Insidious: The Last Key” and due out in January. Previous credits include “Third Watch,” “Criminal Minds,” HBO’s “Lewis and Clark” opposite Casey Affleck, “The Dark Knight Rises,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
Stewart is represented by UTA, Grandview, and attorney David Krintzman.
