The Foreign exchange market is the biggest financial market in the world. At least four trillion dollars is traded on currency markets on a daily basis. This market is known for its volatility and high risk nature, which is why it is mostly traded by banks and big corporate. However a young South African trader has managed to crack it. Sandile Shezi has successfully learnt how to trade currencies and at just 23 he's become one of the youngest multi-millionaires in the country. Shezi now wants to empower other young South Africans to do the same. Sumitra Nydoo caught up with him.

The Tanzanian government has approved a new law intended to reduce the number of foreign workers in the African country. The Non-Citizens Employment Regulation Bill was introduced in March and will come into effect in July. The new legislation will mean that only the Ministry of Labor will decide who gets foreign work permits, and which industries will be allowed to employ them. The measure is expected to restrict the number of foreigners working in mining, agriculture and wider infrastructure projects. Tanzania is known as an open society where foreign workers are welcome, but could that be about to change? In this episode of Africa Today, we ask could these new laws backfire on the country? Tanzanian public broadcaster TBC has suspended nine staff after it aired a hoax story saying that US President Donald Trump had praised President John Magufuli's performance. The article appeared on a website called Fox Channel. The story, which was broadcast last week, said Mr Trump called Mr Magufuli an "African hero" compared to other leaders who are "doing nothing". A statement from TBC said editorial procedures had not been followed. The broadcaster's Director General Ayub Rioba said that the station should have verified the information before broadcasting. The story said that the US president had called on other African leaders to follow Mr Magufuli's example with his emphasis on good governance and his war against corruption. Mr Magufuli, known as the "bulldozer" for his hands...

Cote d'Ivoire is projected to be Africa's fastest growing economy in 2016, taking over from Ethiopia that grew at 10.2 percent last year. The International Monetary Fund in its World Economic Outlook report for April 2016, projects Cote d'Ivoire to grow at 8.5 percent, a slight drop from last year's 8.6 percent. Other fast growing economies this year are Tanzania at 6.9 percent, Senegal at 6.6 percent, Djibouti at 6.5 percent and Rwanda at 6.3 percent.
In Tanzania, President John Magufuli has shaken up the economy by tackling corruption, cutting spending and raising taxes. But some investors are still craving more indications of stability in the year ahead, as Lucy Taylor reports.
President John Magufuli is pushing ahead with his fight against corruption, hoping to speed up his country’s industrialisation. His supporters call him "the bulldozer" for his no-nonsense approach: he has sacked countless officials and vowed to make public servants work harder. But opposition MPs say he is also suppressing democracy, and police are arresting hundreds of their members. Dan Ashby reports.
Tanzania is Africas third largest gold producer, after South Africa and Ghana. And during these difficult economic times should be a bit of a good news story but mining the yellow metal is proving a challenge. The biggest challenge being the lack of adequate infrastructure.
Africa's economic challenges in 2017 It's been a tough ride for most African economies in 2016, with the plunge in commodity prices for oil producing nations in Africa. Nigeria slipping into recession and losing its position as the biggest economy on the continent. South Africa escaping credit rating downgrades and with the call for the CFA franc currency to be reviewed because it is outdated among others issues ... But with all these developments, what is then to be expected this year?… READ MORE : http://www.africanews.com/2017/01/05/africa-s-economic-challenges-in-2017 Africanews is a new pan-African media pioneering multilingual and independent news telling expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa. South Africa became part of the BRICS group back in twenty ten and its clear to see why. From two thousand and two through to two thousand and eight, the country experienced annual growth averaging a tad under five percent per year and at times during that period it had teased the eight percent level giving a glimpse of the possibilities ahead. With vast natural resources such as gold, diamonds and platinum, excellent infrastructure and easy access to finance for business it had all the right ingredients in place for this trend to continue. The global recession hit hard however and, after a sharp contraction in the economy of six percent, it never really found its feet again. An increasingly corrupt government and high crime rates haven’t helped win foreign investment back into the region...

Tanzania's economy is on track to grow by 7.2% this year, buoyed by investment in mining, transport and gas. President John Magufuli has been leading a campaign to cut waste and end corruption in government since he took office. He says the savings from those efforts will be invested in infrastructure and industrialization. Dan Ashby has this update from the country's commercial capital, Dar-es-Salaam.

The Tanzanian Government aims to increase its growth rates to a historic 10 per cent by 2020 and pull millions of its people out of poverty. In its new 5-year plan, the Finance Ministry said it is committed to put the country on a path to become a 'New Tanzania'. Dan Ashby, has been looking through the economic forecast.
Tanzania's Finance minister expects economic growth to reach 7.2 percent in 2016 up from 7 percent last year. Budget spending for the fiscal year starting in July will also rise 2.2 percent. Philip Mpango presented the document outlining budget plans for 2016/17 to parliament. And this will be the first indication of spending plans under the new administration of President John Magufuli, who was elected in October 2015. And in Malawi, the finance ministry says growth will pick to more than 4 percent in 2016 from about 3 percent last year as the country recovers from a drought caused by the El Nino weather pattern. Agriculture accounts for almost a third of Malawi's economy and provides a livelihood for 80 percent of the population. The kwacha has also been hit by a loss of donor funds be...

(24 Sep 1978) There has been an Anti-Lonrho (formerly London and Rhodesia Mining and Land Company) demonstration in Tanzania over the perceived meddling of the company, run by British tycoon Tiny Rowland which holds many businesses in Tanzania, in political affairs. Along the northern coast of Tanzania, a series of innovative development projects are combining conservation efforts with health and livelihood interventions. In Healthy People, Healthy Environment: Integrated Development in Tanzania, we meet Rukia, Mahija, and Fidea from the Pangani and Bagamoyo districts who demonstrate how these "population, health, and environment" projects are improving their lives, their environment, and their community. Community members are some of the most important tools of the PHE approach -- local villagers become peer educators who can discuss the linkages of conservation and health with their neighbors and help spread the use of interventions such as clean cookstoves, sustainable seaweed farming, and reproductive health services. In Tanzania close to 8,000 women and 40,000 newborns die every year during or shortly after childbirth from conditions that could have been prevented or treated with quality healthcare. Half of all births take place at home, without assistance from a skilled health worker and often in unhygienic conditions. Pay for Performance (P4P) is one approach that has been piloted in Pwani region to increase rates of delivery in a health facility, as well as to improve maternal and child health more broadly. A recent evaluation of the intervention found that P4P increased rates of delivery by 8%. However, the effects of P4P go beyond service utilisation and quality. In this video, researchers, policy makers and P4P co-ordinators discuss the effects of P4P on the wider health system, drawing on fin...

In Tanzania, the public health system is overloaded. Four out of every 10 people turn to the private sector for their care, where quality can be inconsistent. PSI’s Familia network addresses this problem, reaching low-income clients with high quality maternal and child health services. Using a model called social franchising, PSI applies commercial franchising strategies to privately-owned clinics. Social franchising benefits clients, who get improved services, health workers, who gain valuable training in business and medical skills, and PSI, which gets increased health impact – our measure of success. Today, PSI works with business owners all over the world, reaching 10 million people every year. Learn more at http://psi.org.

A dozen national parks are home to virtually all the variety of the African continent's wildlife, and the number of tourists has been growing steadily. Some 400,000 visitors are expected this year, up from 300,000 last year. But the government is not looking for more than half a million by the end of the decade. Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and is located slightly south of the Equator. Its large variety of nature is overwhelming and includes the Serengeti and Selous Nature Reserves, the snow-covered Kilimanjaro and the spice island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. Tell me your culture shock stories in the comments! I wanna hear them all! Tanzania was my first international trip on my own - no family, on a budget, in Africa. I thought I had prepared myself for the trip, but I found that everything in Africa is intensified, and it left me feeling very culture shocked. Visit beautiful Tanzania. From the Ngorongoro Crater to Zanzibar Island.
It's eight hours later in Tanzania.
When Jen lays down
Mary's just opening her eyes.
Her child's feet land on the ground
and dirt scatters,
And she feels left out in the open,
always left out in the open.
She says, 'son, wear my shoes to school today?.
He turns and smiles and walks away,
and she thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where the earth is clean and safe.
My children have a place to play,
not here in Tanzania.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
It's eight hours earlier in Chattanooga.
Mary sits down and Jen's just put the coffee on.
Katie Couric is talking news and fashion,
and Jen feels pushed into a corner,
always pushed into a corner, she says
'Baby I know what girls at school are like'.
And her daughter rides off on her bike,
and Jen thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where my children get a break,
And there are chances that they'll take,
not here in Chattanooga.
Someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
Well it's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in Africa sometimes.
It's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in America sometimes.
But someday I will wake
in a body that won't break,
On ground that doesn't shake, not here.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
