• India Social good Summit 2015: Technology for Social Good Sep 15, 2017

  In India, the Social Good Summit will be held on 28 September, 2015 at IIT Delhi, one of the country’s premier hubs of technology and innovation. The Summit will showcase technologies that are changing the lives of people across the country. This year, a host of technologists, representatives from government, celebrities and young innovators will deliberate on Technology, Social Good and the Road Ahead for India.Our theme, #2030Now, asks the question, “What type of world do I want to live in by the year 2030?” During the Social Good Summit, global citizens around the world unite to unlock the potential of technology to make the world a better place.

• Launch of the International Centre for Human Development in India Sep 5, 2017

  The newly established International Centre for Human Development, a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of India, was officially launched at an event held on 4 January 2013 in New Delhi. As one of the chief architects of the Human Development approach, Prof. Amartya Sen delivered the inaugural lecture.

• International Day for Biological Diversity Sep 5, 2017

  On International Day for Biological Diversity, we’re focusing on the impact of our project in Sindhudurg coastal district, which is one of the most biodiverse areas in Maharashtra. The project, supported by the Government of Maharashtra and the Global Environment Facility, has been addressing biodiversity challenges while improving livelihoods of coastal communities since 2011 through sustainable fishing, agriculture, horticulture and conservation of mangroves, turtles and coral reef cover. The project has also sought to collaborate with local communities towards generating awareness about biodiversity amidst the threat of unsustainable fishing practices, rising pollution from fishing vessels and maritime traffic.

• World Environment Day Sep 5, 2017

  UNDP has partnered with the Government of India to promote low carbon, climate resilient and inclusive development. Key areas of intervention are climate change (mitigation and adaptation), sustainable natural resource management (conserving biodiversity and addressing land degradation) and environmentally sound chemical management (phasing out of ozone depleting substances and reducing persistent organic pollutants). The loss of biodiversity and the changing climate are among the most prominent issues on the international agenda. These are not only environmental concerns; the issues are linked to the nature of economic development, poverty reduction, natural disasters, and peace and security. The health of the world’s biodiversity and climate is fundamental to all aspects of human well‐being.

• Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction hosted by the Government of India Nov 2, 2016

  UNDP is proud to be part of the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, being hosted by India in New Delhi from 2 – 5 November 2016. The Conference was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, and aims to adopt an ‘Asia Regional Plan for implementation of the Sendai Framework’. The Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction was adopted in 2015 to substantially reduce ‘disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries’.

• Seeding Change: Improving Market Access for Farmers in Mizoram Oct 5, 2016

  On International Women’s Day 2016, NITI Aayog, in partnership with MyGov and the United Nations in India, launched the first-ever ‘Women Transforming India’, an online contest to crowdsource stories of women making a difference, in form of essays.

• Women Transforming India Awards 2016: Celebrating Women Change Makers Sep 9, 2016

  On International Women’s Day 2016, NITI Aayog, in partnership with MyGov and the United Nations in India, launched the first-ever ‘Women Transforming India’, an online contest to crowdsource stories of women making a difference, in form of essays.

• New Partnership: Towards Sound Chemical Management in India Aug 10, 2016

  A new project launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will support efforts by the country to manage and monitor mercury use as a first step towards ratifying the Minamata Convention on Mercury, an international treaty to protect human health and environment from the adverse effects of mercury.

• UNDP Chief Helen Clark in India May 7, 2016

  UNDP Administrator Helen Clark arrived in India on a day-long visit to Delhi where she participated at the ‘Advancing Asia: Investing for the Future’ conference hosted by the International Monetary Fund. UNDP’s Global Chief participated in a panel discussion on ‘Developing Asia: Challenges of Economic Resilience'. While in Delhi, Ms. Clark also met with senior representatives from the Government of India.

• Training Young Leaders to Promote Youth Volunteerism across India May 7, 2016

• Regional Launch of 2013 Human Development Report May 7, 2016

  The regional launch of the 2013 Global Human Development Report: The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World was organized by the International Centre for Human Development and the United Nations Development Programme in New Delhi. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, delivered a special address at the event.

• Helen Clark on Developing Asia: Challenges of Climate Change and Economic Resilience Mar 12, 2016

  The economic consequences of climate change are increasingly coming to bear on the economies of the Asia Pacific region—both by raising their proclivity to experience natural disasters and in the deterioration of living standards and environmental conditions. Water resources and flooding, coastal zones, heat waves, and increasingly volatile conditions for agriculture are just some of the problems to which Asia Pacific countries must adapt in coming years. Key issues in this session included preparations and investment for, and responses to, the economic effects of climate change and ways to build macroeconomic resilience.
