Cumbria (English pronunciation: /ˈkʌmbriə/ KUM-bree-ə; locally [ˈkʊmbɾiə] KUUM-bree-ə) is a non-metropolitan county in North West England. The county and Cumbria County Council, its local authority, came into existence in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972. Cumbria's largest settlement and county town is Carlisle and the only other major urban area is Barrow-in-Furness on the south-western tip of the county.
The county of Cumbria consists of six districts (Allerdale, Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland), and in 2008 had a population of just under half a million. Cumbria is one of the most sparsely populated counties in the United Kingdom, with 73.4 people per km2 (190/sq mi).
Cumbria, the third-largest ceremonial county in England by area, is bounded to the north by the Scottish council areas of Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders, to the west by the Irish Sea, to the south by Lancashire, to the southeast by North Yorkshire, and to the east by County Durham and Northumberland.
The Lake District, also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells) and its associations with the early 19th century writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
Historically split between Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire, the Lake District is now entirely in Cumbria. All the land in England higher than 3,000 ft (910 m) above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest lakes in England, Wastwater and Windermere.
The Lake District National Park includes nearly all of the Lake District, though the town of Kendal and the Lakeland Peninsulas are currently outside the park boundary.
The area, which was designated a national park on 9 May 1951 (less than a month after the first UK national park designation — the Peak District), is the most visited national park in the United Kingdom with 15.8 million annual visitors and more than 23 million annual day visits, the largest of the thirteen national parks in England and Wales, and the second largest in the UK after the Cairngorms. Its aim is to protect the landscape by restricting unwelcome change by industry or commerce. Most of the land in the park is in private ownership, with about 55% registered as agricultural land. Landowners include:

The village of Buttermere lies between the Lake District lakes of Buttermere and Crummock Water, and is overlooked by the summits of Grasmoor to the north and High Stile to the south. The nearest towns are Keswick and Cockermouth, both of which are approximately 10 miles away. In the village, The Bridge Hotel, stands on a site tracing back to the 11th century, where an armoury and a bakery stood, in connection with the Water-Mill Earl Boether built higher up the stream. For seven centuries the mill worked continuously, the buildings being many times renewed. Circa 1734, the buildings were sold to the church, the curate being the Reverend Robert Walker. He obtained a beer licence and originated the 'Bridge Inn'. In 1837, Jonathan Thomas Sleap purchased the property, rebuilding the inn usin...

A few general views captured high above Keswick during summer 2014. The Lake District summer has started with some lovely hot weather and still mornings providing ideal filming conditions. Here are a few general views of some of my personal favorite areas the Northern Lake District has to offer. I used both a GoPro and Canon 5D mk 3 to create this highlight video. It is situated just north of Derwent Water, and a short distance from Bassenthwaite Lake, both in the Lake District National Park. Keswick is on the A66 road linking Workington and Penrith, as well as the A591 road, linking it to Windermere, Kendal and to Carlisle (via the A595 road). It lies within the historic county boundaries of Cumberland. Hiking through the Cumbrian Lake District — England's green and pristine mountain playground — we'll admire idyllic lakes, discover misty waterfalls, tour a slate mine, and conquer stony summits. And we'll meet the locals — and their beloved dogs and sheep — everywhere. Then we play a little cricket, hike Hadrian's Wall, and get dazzled by Durham's Norman cathedral. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe

We started our journey from London. Our Destination was Lake District, Cumbria. It is a non metropolitan county in North West England. We reached there by evening and stayed at YHA Ambleside. The rent was 40 £ for 4 person. The room was very nice. Next morning we woke up early and visited almost all the eye catching places in Lake District. Trust me it's more beautiful through naked eyes than iphone 6s. After sunset we headed for Blackpool. Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Irish Sea coast of England. Decorated with a lot of entertainment buildings and amusement parks. Must be more happening and beautiful in mid summer. We stayed there for one night. Our hotel was Beachside Hotel. Well it was not that comfortable but the price was cheap (37£ for 4 person). After having lunch we lef...

https://www.lakeland-cottage-company.co.uk/ Having spent years photographing the Lake District for our holiday cottage company we thought it was time to ramp things up and create Time Lapse and video movies. Shot by Jack Serginson and Ollie Gough with a bit of help from myself I think they have produced something quite special, highlighting Cumbria's Lake District and showing why this stunning area is the perfect holiday destination. Look out for re-edits and new films. Big thanks to Cam, Ram and Set from Reforest Records for running out a great sound track at short notice. Oh and by the way, in their urgency to get the film up before disappearing to Norway for their next great time lapse adventure, they made a few spelling typos - Tut Tut boys, I guess I should have checked. Now I can't spend a minute
Now I can't steal the time
I've lost all my friends like money
I've lost all my men to the sky
Can't keep your loving from my mind
It's worth more than gold, crystals and pride
Ready to shake these stars from me
But I can't withdraw your heart from mine
No, I can't withdraw your heart from mine
No, I can't withdraw your heart from mine
I never knew what your love could do
I blew it all away
Thought I could satisfy the yearning of my
Heart shaped hole on hold for you
Never learned to hold on
I hold too tight and have to let go
But there's no love, no love,
There's nothing to take your place
Now I can't spend a minute
Now I can't steal the time
I've lost all my friends like money
I've lost all my men to the sky
I can't keep your loving from my mind
It's worth more than gold, crystals and pride
Ready to shake these stars from me
Oh, I can't withdraw your heart from mine
You're the one thing that sticks right onto my side
No, I can't withdraw your heart from mine
How'd I get so stuck, so stuck to your side?
No I can't withdraw your heart from mine
You're the one thing that sticks, right into my side
