Maria Bamford

Maria Bamford (born September 3, 1970) is an American stand-up comedian, actress and voice actress. She is best known for her portrayal of her dysfunctional family and self-deprecating comedy involving jokes about depression and anxiety. Her comedy style is surreal, and incorporates voice impressions of various character types.

Early life

Bamford was born at the naval base in Port Hueneme, California, where her father Joel was serving as a Navy doctor. She grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, where she attended Chester Park Elementary and The Marshall School. She went on to attend Bates College, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Minnesota, where she earned a degree in Creative Writing. She started doing stand-up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at age 19, at Stevie Ray's Comedy Cabaret. Bamford then joined Edinburgh's improvised comedy show The Improverts. Maria has one sister, Sarah Bamford Seidelmann.

Career

Bamford has been in a number of movies and television shows, including voice appearances in cartoons. Most notably, she was the voice of Shriek in CatDog, a huge selection of secondary characters in Cartoon Network's Adventure Time and Mrs. Botsford, Violet, and Leslie on the long running PBS educational series WordGirl. The best-known aspect of her act is her various impersonations (including her mother and her agent). Her stand-up comedy often takes the form of vignettes rather than the standard setup/punchline format.

Bamford

Bamford (also known as Bamford with Thornhill) is a village in the Derbyshire Peak District, England, close to the River Derwent. To the north-east is Bamford Edge, and to the south-east the location of the water treatment works covering the Ladybower, Derwent and Howden Reservoirs. Though locally Bamford is described as being in the Hope Valley, it is technically in the Upper Derwent Valley. According to the 2011 census it had a population of 1,241.

History

Its name is recorded in the Domesday Book as Banford, and likely came from Anglo-Saxon Bēamford = "tree-trunk ford".

The parish church of St John the Baptist was built c. 1860. There are also Methodist and Catholic churches in the village.

The village graveyard also contains some re-interred graves from the nearly villages of Derwent and Ashopton which were drowned following the creation of Ladybower Reservoir.

Bamford water mill has been turned into flats but some of the original machinery still remains.

Recreation

The village has a sculpture trail and, in mid-July, there is a well-dressing festival. Bamford has four public houses, the Derwent Hotel (now a self-catering venue), the Anglers Rest, the Ladybower Inn and the Yorkshire Bridge Inn, the latter once home to former Blue Peter presenter Peter Purves. The village also had a weekly Youth Club held in the Memorial Hall until September 2010.

Patrick Bamford

Patrick James Bamford (born 5 September 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays for Norwich City on loan from Chelsea. Bamford plays as a centre forward, but is also capable of playing an attacking midfield role.

He began his career at Nottingham Forest, making his debut on 31 December 2011, and a month later joined Chelsea for a fee of £1.5 million. Chelsea then loaned him out to Milton Keynes Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough with whom he won the Championship Player of the Year, and eventually Crystal Palace.

Capped once for the Republic of Ireland at under-18 level, he later changed allegiances to England, whom he has represented up to under-21 level.

Early life

Bamford was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and raised in the small, nearby village of Norwell in Nottinghamshire. He joined Nottingham Forest's Academy as an eight-year-old after playing junior football for Muskham Cougars. He attended Nottingham High School, where due to the lack of a school football team he played Rugby Union as a full-back, until the end of Year 10. Bamford ended up with five A*s, three As and two Bs at GCSE. He did A-Level French, History, Biology and General Studies and attained 3 grades at B and another at C. Bamford was offered a scholarship by Harvard University, but he rejected the offer to continue his football career.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is an American late-night talk show hosted by Stephen Colbert, which premiered on September 8, 2015. It is the spiritual successor of The Colbert Report. Produced by Spartina Productions and CBS Television Studios, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the second iteration of CBS's long-running Late Show franchise. Stay Human, led by bandleader Jon Batiste, serves as the program's house band.

The program is taped at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City; unlike predecessor series during its final decade, new episodes are produced five nights a week (as such, The Late Show and its NBC competitor The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are the only daily late-night network talk shows that produce and air first-run episodes on Fridays), which air at 11:35 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time on Monday through Friday evenings.

Background

Prior to Colbert's assumption of hosting duties, David Letterman had been host of the Late Show for 22 years, dating to his arrival at CBS in 1993. CBS had not had a regular late-night talk show for most of its existence prior to that point, with only one attempt (the short-lived Pat Sajak Show in 1990) between 1972 and Letterman's arrival. Letterman, who joined CBS from NBC after ending his eleven-year run as host of Late Night and losing out on being Johnny Carson's successor on The Tonight Show to Jay Leno, was initially competitive with his show's bitter rival, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno; Letterman's Late Show, however, slowly experienced a decline in ratings over the course of the 1990s and 2000s, dating back to an affiliation agreement between New World Communications and Fox that resulted in all nine CBS-affiliated stations it owned or recently acquired switching to Fox between September and December 1994, relegating the network to lower-rated former Fox affiliates and independent stations in many major cities.
