Delivering on Capacity Development Objectives: Completion of the First Training Course on Crash Investigation (I)

On Thursday 3rd of November, senior representatives of Ministry of Interior (MOI), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and General Secretariat for Supreme Council for Training and Development (GSSCPD) participated in the graduation ceremony to mark the successful completion of the first course of the training programme in the field of crash investigation.  Over the course of the last 4 weeks, 25 candidates, nominated by General Department of Traffic, participated in a basic training course on crash investigation I, delivered in partnership with US based Center of Public Safety of Northwestern University.  The training was aimed at enhancing trainees’ capacities on specific skills critical to undertaking effective crash investigation such as identifying, describing and recording damage to vehicles, how to get useful information from roadway and people, understanding the five levels of crash investigation and how to take photographs of crash.

Colonel Salem Al-Ajami, National Coordinator of the project, “Implementation of Comprehensive and Long Term Traffic and Transport Sector Strategy,” opened the ceremony with a welcome speech in which he provided a brief background on the training and outlined the overall objectives of enhancing crash investigation capacities of traffic police officers in line with strategic policy direction of Ministry of Interior in this field

Major General Fahd AlShuwaei, Assistant Undersecretary of Traffic Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, Ms. Dima Al-Khatib, Resident Representative a.i. of United Nations Development Programme and Mr. Talal Al Shammari, Assistant Secretary General for Planning Affairs, at General Secretariat of Supreme Council for Planning and Development presided over the handing over of certificates to the trainees.  Mr. Richard Dinehard, the senior trainer of, participated in the ceremony.

This training course represents the first of other training courses that will be delivered through 2016-2017 centering on basic and advanced skills in crash investigation, vehicle dynamics and basic and advanced courses on traffic crash reconstruction.   This training programme is part of the initiative of the project “Implementation of Comprehensive and Long Term Traffic and Transport Sector Strategy,” which is a joint partnership between MoI, UNDP and GSSCPD to help address traffic related challenges in the country through system modernization, capacity development and process automation.
