THE CONCLUSION TO NICOLE PEELER'S SEXY, CAPTIVATING AND IRRESISTIBLY FUN JANE TRUE SERIES

REVIEW:

The final story in this cracking Urban Fantasy series (at least for now) and one that won’t disappoint readers who’ve come to not only love Nicole’s quirky principle character, Jane but also love the myriad of supporting cast members who’ve made it so memorable (my own personal favourite being Grissy) who’ve helped the series go from strength to strength and prepared Jane for the epic battle that she’s about to undertake in this outing.

As usual with Nicole, the writing is crisp, the prose slick and when added to characters that the reader just loves to hang around makes this a series that’s not only a guilty pleasure but one that you’ve counted down the release dates for since its release. Back that up with cracking storytelling, solid arc and a villain that’s been hidden in shadows until she was ready and all round it’s a cracking end to this magical series. Great stuff.

URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Jane True 5: Tempest's Fury - Nicole Peeler -

Release Date: 19/07/12

SYNOPSIS:

Supernatural halfling Jane True's not happy. She's been packed off to England to fight a war when she'd much rather be getting busy with her boyfriend Anyan. Unfortunately, Jane's enemies have been stirring up some major trouble and attracting a lot of attention - making it rather tricky for Jane and Anyan to get any alone time. Catapulted into the role of Most Unlikely Hero Ever, Jane must lead supernatural races in a desperate battle to combat an ancient evil. But she'll also have to fight her own insecurities, as well as the doubts of those who don't think she can live up to her new role as Champion - the most powerful supernatural leader of all ...

REVIEW:

Nicole Peeler, for me, was an author that brought humour to the Urban Fantasy novel with her wise cracking heroine that whilst not the kickass lead that most writers lead with, has learned skills alongside burgeoning in relationships as her world has unfurled throughout the series.

It has a great supporting cast and when added to the skills that really keep you glued to the last page (and I have to say damn you Nicole for that cliffhanger) really makes this a series that’s been a pure joy. Back this up with a kickass pace, full throttle arc that keeps you riding by the seat of your pants and wrapped up with the big red bow of romance, makes this a title that really will have readers reaching for the Voodoo Doll to get her writing. All in solid with the only downside being the ending which will mean that the wait for the next part will be even harder. (Please let there be another instalment.)

URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Jane True 2: Tracking the Tempest - Nicole Peeler

Release Date: 05/08/10

BOOK BLURB:

Jane True has almost come to terms with her supernatural heritage ...almost. Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and Ryu - Jane's bloodsucking boyfriend - can't let a major holiday go by without getting all gratuitous. An overwhelming dose of boyfriend interference and a last-minute ticket to Boston later, and Jane's life is thrown off course. Ryu's well-intentioned plans create mayhem, and Jane winds up embroiled in an investigation involving a spree of gruesome killings. All the evidence points towards another Halfling, much to Jane's surprise ...

REVIEW:

The second Jane True tale and one that builds on the first. Jane is more magical, she’s got more spirit and above all else she is sassier than ever.

The story arc is complex and more of a mystery than the first outing. However this time she has a stronger role proving that “halflings” are doing it for themselves (and not just through Griz’s gift sets. LOL) Add to the mix, emotional conflict, some film references and a huge posse of supporting cast members (and yep, you can take one or two in more than one way, lol) and it’s a fun journey from start to finish. My only real qualm is the characters use of the word “Baby”, I absolutely hate it when its used in reference to another adult, but that’s just a personal niggle. On the whole, if you want an Urban fantasy that has fun characters, great plot and a lead that isn’t god defyingly powerful with vulnerability, then this is the tale for you.

URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Tempest Rising (Jane True 1) - Nicole Peeler

BOOK BLURB:

In the tiny village of Rockabill, Maine, Jane True—26-year-old bookstore clerk and secret night swimmer—has no idea that her absent mother’s legacy is entry into a world populated by the origins of human myths and legends. It is a world where nothing can be taken for granted: vampires are not quite what we think; dogs sometimes surprise us; and whatever you do, never—ever—rub the genie’s lamp. For Jane, everything kicks off when she comes across a murder victim during her nightly clandestine swim in the freezing winter ocean. This grisly discovery leads to the revelation of why she has such freakish abilities in the water: her mother was a Selkie and Jane is only half human. With this knowledge, Jane soon finds herself mingling with supernatural creatures alternately terrifying, beautiful, and deadly—all adjectives that quite handily describe her new friend Ryu. When Ryu is sent to Rockabill to investigate the murder, he and Jane fall hard for each other even as they plummet into a world of intrigue threatening to engulf both supernatural and human societies. For someone is killing half-humans like Jane. The question is, are the murders the work of one rogue individual or part of a greater plot to purge the world of Halflings?

REVIEW:

Every time a new author lands it’s a pretty intense experience, you read the jacket text, you scrutinize the cover and then you prepare for that opening paragraph hoping that it will throw something out that just grabs you and drags you into the world beyond to enchant you for a few hours.

What Nicole does is present a world of supernatural’s that not only appeal to the reader but explain how they hide from modern society as well as rule themselves. It’s a Private Investagator type novel but one that as the character learns more about her heritage as well as the unseen world beyond that of normal ken draws a rich tapestry over the veil that really will keep you glued to the last page. Jane is pretty intense and a character that will instantly become a friend to many a reader, yep her bums big, she likes food and above all she admits to her failings. She’s not a combat nut, she has to persevere as well as survive in an alien world through wits alone along with a love interest.

It’s quirky, it’s well written and above all each of the characters adds a new layer or texture to the tale demonstrating that its extremely well planned. I’ll eagerly await future instalments of this series as well secretly hoping for bigger roles for some of the characters within as each lures you in with an interesting back story that you’ll just want to hear more of. Good stuff Nicole.
