Shanghai

Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of China, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2014. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits on the south edge of the mouth of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.

For centuries a major administrative, shipping, and trading town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five forced open to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War while the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was reoriented to focus on socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.

De La Tierra

De La Tierra is a Latin American metal supergroup formed in late 2012 by Brazilian guitarist Andreas Kisser (of Sepultura), Argentine singer/guitarist Andrés Giménez (of A.N.I.M.A.L.) Argentine Bassist Sr. Flavio (of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs) and Cuban,Colombian, Mexican drummer Alex González (of Maná). Their debut self-titled album was released January 14, 2014 through Roadrunner Records.

History

The foundations of the group were laid down around 2005 towards the end of A.N.I.M.A.L.'s run when Andrés Giménez and Alex González began discussing the idea of forming a band together, eventually bringing in Sr. Flavio to play bass in 2011 and finalising the lineup in 2012 with the addition of Andreas Kisser on lead guitar. After self-producing their album in several different locations across South America, the group signed to Roadrunner Records and released their debut single, Maldita Historia, on September 30, 2013. The album was released on January 14, 2014.

In 2015 the band performed at the Rock in Rio - one of the largest festivals in the world, if not the greatest - on the Palco Mundo (World Stage) and delighted the public, opening up for Mastodon, Faith No More and Slipknot. The band was described as one of the best shows of the festival. The vocalist, Andrés Giménez, drew the responsibility of the public to talk about the Latin Metal, saying: "That's the De La Tierra, only Latin band of Rock in Rio festival," Giménez said - emphasizing pride by the fact.", after they played "Somos Uno," "Maldita Historia" and "Rostros" - with Kisser raising the public with solos. At one point of the concert, the Argentine went on to say: "I know a lot of people from many countries like mine came to the Rock In Rio festival and it's the world's biggest festival, people of Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, we are much Latin Americans.", the band didn't spared to show his pride for being Latin.

China

China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.

Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

China's First Sky Train Begins Trials in Chengdu
Test runs of the first-ever sky railway car hit the rails on Monday in Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province. With a panda's face painted on its head, the hanging train will run on a 1.4 kilometer-long suspended railway for 90 days before being released to the market. Engineers said these trials will be crucial for the future development of this new form of rail transportation. "This trial operation is key to creating a new rail traffic standard. We will test and improve the system parameters during the trial and draw up a technical standard for this type of rail transportation before releasing it to the market," said Zhai Wanming, chief designer of the sky railway car. The hanging train, which can carry up to 200 people at a time, runs at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour. It runs on lithium-ion batteries, which Zhai said is less harmful to the environment than traditional energy sources. "The train is free from the traditional system of high-tension power transmission and transformation. It runs along the closed track on a lifted box girder and thus will not be troubled by problems such as derailment. It will never crash into barriers as the cars are running on the special railway. So we could say it is a very safe mean of transportation," he said. The first commercial sky railway service is expected to roll out within a year, according to Zhongtang Sky Train Group, the company that initiated and invested in the project. "The first demonstration line for the sky train will be built in Chengdu city center or Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in about half a year. The construction of a line is expected to take about six to eight months," said Tang Tong, chairman of Zhongtang Sky Train Group. (14 May 2016) The abandoned Chinese train rail factory in the small Venezuelan rural town of Zaraza is a poignant symbol of economic collapse — and a strategic relationship gone adrift. A red arched sign in Chinese and Spanish is all that remains of what until 16 months ago was a bustling complex of 800 workers. A decade ago, then-Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dreamed up the Tinaco-Anaco railway as a way to populate the plains and attract development from long-dominant coastal areas. Stretching 300 miles (468-kilometers), it was intended to move 5 million passengers and 9.8 million metric tons of cargo a year at speeds up to 135 miles (220 kilometers) per hour. Chavez turned to China, one of his closest ideological allies, for engineering and financing for the project, part of a 7.5 billion US dollar deal that has made Venezuela the world's top recipient of Chinese loans. A consortium of state-run companies led by China Railway Group Ltd, the world's largest train maker, was tasked with carrying out construction. Shortly after the last Chinese managers left in January 2015, a mob of local residents — some of them armed — ransacked the site and hauled away everything of value. First to go were power generators, computers and air conditioners on the back of pick-up trucks. Vandals then tore apart dozens of buildings to scavenge for metal siding, copper wiring and ceramic tiles, some of which are now on sale at roadside stalls. Richard Higuera, a farming producer and businessman of Zaraza, said it looked like a "barbaric act." The factory's demise appears to have been triggered by Venezuela's cash crunch.
