Nicholas Edward "Nick" Cave (born 22 September 1957) is an Australian musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional film actor. He is best known as the frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, established in 1983, a group known for its diverse output and ever-evolving line-up. Prior to this, he fronted the Birthday Party, one of the most extreme and confrontational post-punk bands of the early 1980s. In 2006, he formed the garage rock band Grinderman, releasing its debut album the following year.
Referred to as rock music's "Prince of Darkness", Cave's music is generally characterised by emotional intensity, a wide variety of influences, and lyrical obsessions with death, religion, love and violence.NME described him as "the grand lord of gothic lushness".
Cave has also worked as a composer for films, often in collaboration with fellow Australian musician Warren Ellis. Their films together include The Proposition (2005, based on a screenplay by Cave), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), The Road (2009) and Lawless (2012). Cave is the subject and co-writer of the semi-fictional "day in the life" documentary 20,000 Days on Earth (2014).

An outtake from the new Nick Cave film "20,000 Days on Earth”: http://www.20000daysonearth.com/ During the making of our film 20,000 Days on Earth we asked Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to play an intimate club show at Koko in London, a beautiful old Victorian music hall. We wanted to do something special for the fans, so while we were filming the scenes with Nick and Kylie in Brighton he asked her if she'd like to come and sing their infamous duet. Kylie jumped at the chance, and a few weeks later walked out on stage and performed Where The Wild Roses Grow live with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for the first time in 15 years. This moment was such a highlight for everyone who was there that we wanted to share it with everyone." Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard Watch the film trailer: http://youtu.be...

This is the official live visual for the UNKLE track 'Money and Run' featuring Nick Cave. This is designed to be projected onto large screens while UNKLE tour around the world, so whilst it is hopefully good to see on your computer, its much better to see on a 20ft screen. We filmed Nick at UNKLEs studio in Brighton then did all the post over a week or so in our studio in Bristol. It's now touring around with UNKLE along with the other visuals we made last year and some other pre-existing ones. Directed by: Scubaboy / James Lavelle Designed, animated and cut by: Scubaboy

In a new episode of VICE Meets, we sit down with Nick Cave to talk about the release of his new book, The Sick Bag Song. The book was written by Cave as he and the Bad Seeds undertook a mammoth tour of 22 cities across America, and in it you can feel all the exhaustion, romantic longing, musings, memories, and moments of significance such a marathon entails. It's an epic poem, written—quite literally, on sick bags—in the manner of The Wasteland meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Here, on an empty airplane, VICE's John Doran talks to Cave about his wife, his home, and his childhood, the "dreaded" act of songwriting, and his artistic influences—from American poet John Berryman, right through to the Bible. Cave's book will be available exclusively from http://www.thesickbagsong.com, in ...

Have mercy on me, sir
Allow me to impose on you
I have no place to stay
And my bones are cold right through
I will tell you a story
Of a man and his family
And I swear that it is true
Ten years ago I met a girl named Joy
She was a sweet and happy thing
Her eyes were bright blue jewels
And we were married in the spring
I had no idea what happiness and little love could bring
Or what life had in store
But all things move toward their end
All things move toward their their end
On that you can be sure
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
Then one morning I awoke to find her weeping
And for many days to follow
She grew so sad and lonely
Became Joy in name only
Within her breast there launched an unnamed sorrow
And a dark and grim force set sail
Farewell happy fields
Where joy forever dwells
* Hail horrors hail *
Was it an act of contrition or some awful premonition
As if she saw into the heart of her final blood-soaked night
Those lunatic eyes, that hungry kitchen knife
Ah, I see sir, that I have your attention!
Well, could it be
How often I've asked that question
Well, then in quick succession
We had babies, one, two, three
We called them Hilda, Hattie and Holly
They were their mother's children
Their eyes were bright blue jewels
And they were quiet as a mouse
There was no laughter in the house
No, not from Hilda, Hattie or Holly
'No wonder', people said, 'poor mother Joy's so melancholy'
Well, one night there came a visitor to our little home
I was visiting a sick friend
I was a doctor then
Joy and the girls were on their own
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
Joy had been bound with electrical tape
In her mouth a gag
She'd been stabbed repeatedly
And stuffed into a sleeping bag
In their very cots my girls were robbed of their lives
Method of murder much the same as my wife's
Method of murder much the same as my wife's
It was midnight when I arrived home
Said to the police on the telephone
Someone's taken four innocent lives
They never caught the man
He's still on the loose
It seems he has done many many more
Quotes John Milton on the walls in the victim's blood
The police are investigating at tremendous cost
In my house he wrote 'his red right hand'
That, I'm told is from Paradise Lost
The wind round here gets wicked cold
But my story is nearly told
I fear the morning will bring quite a frost
And so I've left my home
I drift from land to land
I am upon your step and you are a family man
Outside the vultures wheel
The wolves howl, the serpents hiss
And to extend this small favour, friend
Would be the sum of earthly bliss
Do you reckon me a friend
The sun to me is dark
And silent as the moon
Do you, sir, have a room
Are you beckoning me in
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
