Centenary running of the Manangatang Cup horse races for which the tiny town of Manangatang, near Swan Hill, swells from 300 people to 3000. Cup started in 1917 during WWI by locals including Des Ryan’s grandparents. Des, a wheat farmer, has missed just one Cup in his 71 years – in 1969, on his wedding day. He and his wife Marie organised their last Cup this year after decades in this role.
