Vocalist Daniel Tompkins explains the lyrical concept & inspiration behind the song: "Lyrically ‘Smile’ carries a strong and forward sense of irony as we explore and darkest side of the human condition. The song will witness the manifestation of an ’entity’. Consciousness survives through constant manipulation only to propagate pessimism and hopelessness. Our entity observes, consumes and evolves, bearing witness to human existence, mimicking our presence in colossal form."
Recorded at both 4D Sound Studios, Brighton and Celestial Sound Studios, Notts UK and produced by Acle Kahney during late spring this year “Smile”, described by the band as their most collaborative track of recent times, here, the vocals play a key part in shaping the structure of the song, the bass shaping the verses, so, allowing the band to explore new perspectives. Bassist Amos Williams explains further: “We chose this track as although it is part of a greater theme, and is in fact towards the end of a story arc, it stands alone very well. We have a solid idea of where we would like to take this track on the next album as it is in no way finished. It is merely one step in a journey.
"The verses and choruses stand very far apart from each other. There is a tension we wished to build through a minimalist approach, with small phrases that repeat against accompanying parts of different lengths. These undulate, seemingly getting lost against the nonconventional phrasing of the drums. All this is nothing new to TesseracT fans, but this time we have looked to really align the lyrical and musical messages."

Tesseract
In geometry, the tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of six square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of eight cubical cells. The tesseract is one of the six convex regular 4-polytopes.
The tesseract is also called an 8-cell, C8, (regular) octachoron, octahedroid,cubic prism, and tetracube (although this last term can also mean a polycube made of four cubes). It is the four-dimensional hypercube, or 4-cube as a part of the dimensional family of hypercubes or "measure polytopes".
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word tesseract was coined and first used in 1888 by Charles Howard Hinton in his book A New Era of Thought, from the Greek τέσσερεις ακτίνες (téssereis aktines or "four rays"), referring to the four lines from each vertex to other vertices. In this publication, as well as some of Hinton's later work, the word was occasionally spelled "tessaract".

Concealing Fate
Concealing Fate is the debut EP by British progressive metal band Tesseract, released on 11 October 2010. "This is a concept album based on life and its obstacles," said vocalist Daniel Tompkins which was featured on a bonus DVD along with their first studio album One. Concealing Fate is split into 6 parts: Acceptance, Deception, The Impossible, Perfection, Epiphany, and Origin. A live studio play through of Concealing Fate was also included as a bonus DVD along with One and a video for Deception (Concealing Fate Part 2) was released in 2010.

Album
Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.
An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

TESSERACT - "April" Bass Video. Taken from the upcoming Acoustic EP.... "The EP itself was inspired by an acoustic session we filmed last year in New York, whilst on tour with Protest The Hero. It made us realize that a few of the tracks sounded really great when re-arranged and approached at from a different perspective. It will feature 3 new versions of tracks from 'One' plus a very special cover'. TesseracT recently asked which TesseracT song our fans would most like me to do a play through video for. The result was "April". This is a very straight forward track that focuses mainly upon the feel and the groove. I honestly don't think I play this track precisely the same twice, as the intensity and emotion will change each performance depending upon my mood, the environment and the sound I'm hearing. Seeing as we're about to release an new version soon, I decided to film myself recording that one. So, I filmed and recorded three separate takes for three different angles, and then created a comp track for the final bounce. This is just a rough mix by me at my home studio, that is slightly bass heavy so you can more clearly define whats going on. I hope to soon have enough time to transcribe the whole album, at which point I will also publish tabs and manuscripts for our debut album 'One'. In this recording I chose to use a Warwick Thumb BO BN for the deep dark sound it produces. This then went into an Electro Harmonix Black Finger Tube Compressor, and then straight into Pro Tools. The only plug in used was the Waves' G series EQ/Compressor Channel strip. Vocalist Daniel Tompkins explains the lyrical concept & inspiration behind the song: "Lyrically ‘Smile’ carries a strong and forward sense of irony as we explore and darkest side of the human condition. The song will witness the manifestation of an ’entity’. Consciousness survives through constant manipulation only to propagate pessimism and hopelessness. Our entity observes, consumes and evolves, bearing witness to human existence, mimicking our presence in colossal form."
Recorded at both 4D Sound Studios, Brighton and Celestial Sound Studios, Notts UK and produced by Acle Kahney during late spring this year “Smile”, described by the band as their most collaborative track of recent times, here, the vocals play a key part in shaping the structure of the song, the bass shaping the verses, so, allowing the band to explore new perspectives. Bassist Amos Williams explains further: “We chose this track as although it is part of a greater theme, and is in fact towards the end of a story arc, it stands alone very well. We have a solid idea of where we would like to take this track on the next album as it is in no way finished. It is merely one step in a journey.
"The verses and choruses stand very far apart from each other. There is a tension we wished to build through a minimalist approach, with small phrases that repeat against accompanying parts of different lengths. These undulate, seemingly getting lost against the nonconventional phrasing of the drums. All this is nothing new to TesseracT fans, but this time we have looked to really align the lyrical and musical messages."

"The EP itself was inspired by an acoustic session we filmed last year in New York, whilst on tour with Protest The Hero. It made us realize that a few of the tracks sounded really great when re-arranged and approached at from a different perspective. It will feature 3 new versions of tracks from 'One' plus a very special cover'.
TesseracT recently asked which TesseracT song our fans would most like me to do a play through video for. The result was "April". This is a very straight forward track that focuses mainly upon the feel and the groove. I honestly don't think I play this track precisely the same twice, as the intensity and emotion will change each performance depending upon my mood, the environment and the sound I'm hearing.
Seeing as we're about to release an new version soon, I decided to film myself recording that one. So, I filmed and recorded three separate takes for three different angles, and then created a comp track for the final bounce. This is just a rough mix by me at my home studio, that is slightly bass heavy so you can more clearly define whats going on. I hope to soon have enough time to transcribe the whole album, at which point I will also publish tabs and manuscripts for our debut album 'One'.
In this recording I chose to use a Warwick Thumb BO BN for the deep dark sound it produces. This then went into an Electro Harmonix Black Finger Tube Compressor, and then straight into Pro Tools. The only plug in used was the Waves' G series EQ/Compressor Channel strip.
