Porto, also known as Oporto in English, is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southern Europe and the capital of the second major great urban area in Portugal. We arrived in Portugal on a stormy day hoping that it would all clear so that we can come out with some decent images. The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

Portugal is in the west of the Iberian Peninsula. Porto is in the north of Portugal, on the estuary of the river Douro. Earlier Porto was the industrial city of Portugal. In Lisbon Portugal was ruled, in Coimbra was studied and in Porto was worked.
In recent years, Porto has turned into a wonderful tourist destination. With its picturesque old town, the promenade along the banks of the Douro under the impressive Ponte Luís I, the long promenade along the Douro estuary and the endless beach promenade along the Atlantic coast, Porto is now worth to be visited more than only one day.

Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu]), also known as Oporto in English, is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southwestern Europe. The urban area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.4 million (2011) in an area of 389 km2 (150 sq mi), making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. Porto Metropolitan Area, on the other hand, includes an estimated 1.8 million people. It is recognized as a Gamma-level global city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group, the only Portuguese city besides Lisbon to be recognised as a global city.
Located along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and its historical core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name "Portugal", based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese, the name of the city is spelled with a definite article ("o Porto"; English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as Oporto in modern literature and by many speakers.

Solo Travel in Porto, Portugal!
I spent 3 days in the beautiful Northern city of Porto in Portugal where I visited the Livraria Lello bookstore which is said to be where J.K. Rowling used to come as she spent 10 years living in Porto. She used to sit upstairs and drink coffee in the cafe and is where she got a lot of the inspiration for Harry Potter, especially Dumbledores staircase. Outside the bookstore you'll find students from the nearby college wearing long black capes and a fountain of Griffins. I also spent a day exploring Espinho, a town about 30 minutes from Porto by train. Enjoy Sophie xx

The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

I spent 3 days in the beautiful Northern city of Porto in Portugal where I visited the Livraria Lello bookstore which is said to be where J.K. Rowling used to come as she spent 10 years living in Porto. She used to sit upstairs and drink coffee in the cafe and is where she got a lot of the inspiration for Harry Potter, especially Dumbledores staircase. Outside the bookstore you'll find students from the nearby college wearing long black capes and a fountain of Griffins.
I also spent a day exploring Espinho, a town about 30 minutes from Porto by train.

We arrived in Portugal on a stormy day hoping that it would all clear so that we can come out with some decent images. The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

The culinary diversity, the history of port wine, many historic buildings and the famous Azulejos framed by the hospitality of the Portuguese, complete the experience.

Solo Travel in Porto, Portugal!
I spent 3 days in the beautiful Northern city of Porto in Portugal where I visited the Livraria Lello bookstore which is said to be where J.K. Rowling used to come as she spent 10 years living in Porto. She used to sit upstairs and drink coffee in the cafe and is where she got a lot of the inspiration for Harry Potter, especially Dumbledores staircase. Outside the bookstore you'll find students from the nearby college wearing long black capes and a fountain of Griffins. I also spent a day exploring Espinho, a town about 30 minutes from Porto by train. Enjoy Sophie xx

Portugal is in the west of the Iberian Peninsula. Porto is in the north of Portugal, on the estuary of the river Douro. Earlier Porto was the industrial city of Portugal. In Lisbon Portugal was ruled, in Coimbra was studied and in Porto was worked. In recent years, Porto has turned into a wonderful tourist destination. With its picturesque old town, the promenade along the banks of the Douro under the impressive Ponte Luís I, the long promenade along the Douro estuary and the endless beach promenade along the Atlantic coast, Porto is now worth to be visited more than only one day. {TRAVEL VLOG} A weekend in Porto | A Rosie Outlook
We went to Porto for four nights - this is a mini travel vlog of two of the days we spent there - and some suggestions for things to do if you're visiting Porto. We visited the beach, rode the tram, went to Sao Bento train station, and went for a tour of the port wine cellars. We stayed in Hotel Vincci and flew Easyjet from London Gatwick. There's more information about the trip at the end of the video. Music is Stealing Orchestra - Enquanto h Memria With Ana Deus Apologies for some of the crappy editing and music cutting. I'm still learning how to make videos! I'll get better... I promise! All shot on the Canon Powershot G7X.

The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

Two hundred twenty-five steps lead to a stunning view across the picturesque old harbor town and its carpet of red rooftops that nestle against the city's hills.
Porto has one of the most beautiful markets in Europe that contains a large inner courtyard completely encircled by arcades.
The narrow, deep river valley of the Douro is spanned by 5 bridges of which the most impressive is the Ponte Dom Louis. The Frenchman, Gustave Eiffel, constructed the gigantic two level bridge that connects Porto with its sister town, Vila Nova De Gaia.

Porto is one of the most historically vibrant and picturesque cities I have ever had the pleasure of exploring and was the perfect surprise birthday trip by Mr Footsteps. With a great mix of historical sights, spectacular views, seaside walks and delicious port wine, Porto has a little something for everyone.

1) Visit Clérigos tower for 360 views of Porto
2) Take the cable cars to the top of Dom Luís I Bridge

In recent years, Porto has turned into a wonderful tourist destination. With its picturesque old town, the promenade along the banks of the Douro under the impressive Ponte Luís I, the long promenade along the Douro estuary and the endless beach promenade along the Atlantic coast, Porto is now worth to be visited more than only one day.
The culinary diversity, the history of port wine, many historic buildings and the famous Azulejos framed by the hospitality of the Portuguese, complete the experience.

We went to Porto for four nights - this is a mini travel vlog of two of the days we spent there - and some suggestions for things to do if you're visiting Porto. We visited the beach, rode the tram, went to Sao Bento train station, and went for a tour of the port wine cellars.
We stayed in Hotel Vincci and flew Easyjet from London Gatwick. There's more information about the trip at the end of the video.

We arrived in Portugal on a stormy day hoping that it would all clear so that we can come out with some decent images. The next morning Porto was enveloped by a thick sea mist which eventually cleared by about midday to expose Porto at its most beautiful. My luck with the weather continues. Sure enough on our day op departure it was heaving down with rain again.

Θα εξερευνήσουμε από άκρη σε άκρη την πανέμορφη πόλη του Πόρτο με τα ιστορικά κτήρια, τα καταπράσινα μεγάλα πάρκα, την απέραντη παράλια στον Ατλαντικό ωκεανό και το πανέμορφο ποτάμι με τη ριβιέρα μπροστά στην πόλη. Στο Πόρτο θα πάμε και σε παραδοσιακό οινοποιείο για να γνωρίσουμε καλύτερα το διάσημο κρασί της πόλης, το αγαπημένο Πόρτο!

A 1ª parte da entrevista do Hélton, ex guarda-redes do FC Porto, ao Porto Canal.
Helton da Silva Arruda, mais conhecido como Helton Arruda, ou simplesmente Helton (São Gonçalo, 18 de Maio de 1978), é um ex-futebolista brasileiro naturalizado português que atuava como guarda-redes. Seu último clube antes da aposentadoria foi o FC Porto
No FC Porto conquistou 7 Ligas Portuguesas, 4 taças de Portugal, 6 Supertaças e 1 Liga Europa.
Esteve 11 épocas ao serviço dos azuis e brancos, onde foi muito acarinhado e respeitado pelos adeptos.
«FICOU A CHAMPIONS POR CONQUISTAR» - HELTON
HELTON revisitou a sua carreira no FC Porto em entrevista, ontem, ao Porto Canal. Recordista de jogos no Dragão - 150 desafios -, 334 partidas pelos dragões, 11 temporadas e 18 títulos conquistados fazem do ex-guardião referência na história dos azuis e brancos.
Um homem alterou-lhe a vida em Leiria. «Foi Cajuda quem mudou toda a trajetória», agradeceu. Chega ao FC Porto com Vítor Baía a titular. «Eu tratava-o por fera e ele chamava-me ferinha. Quando comecei a jogar deu-me força, disse para ir em frente», lembra, quando as posições na baliza se inverteram.
Com Co Adriaanse conquistou em definitivo o lugar e com Jesualdo reforçou o estatuto. «Diziam que era chato. Falava: ‘Errou? Volta a fazer’, era o que dizia.».
Com André Villas Boas, «um hiperamigo», ganhou quatro provas em cinco competições possíveis e lembrou «alguns insultos» e palavras amargas que ouviu no tempo de Vítor Pereira. «Andámos sempre atrás do Benfica mas fomos campeões. Percebo a exigência do adepto mas por vezes é preciso acreditar.» O que faltou para tudo ser perfeito? «Faltou conquistar a Champions. Estivemos perto. O Ronaldo, na época no Man. United [2009], marcou o golo da vida dele e pronto...»
O episódio mais marcante foi em Alvalade, quando saiu de maca, gravemente lesionado: «Ainda hoje me arrepia. Senti naquele momento 50 mil pessoas a aplaudir-me, isso mostrou o carinho e respeito pelo ser humano. Foi incrível.»
