  • NxWorries - Anderson Paak & Knxwledge - Lyk Dis

On the eve of his 2016 breakthrough, Malibu, Paak dropped an EP with LA pal Knxwledge (who has literally 100s of beats on Bandcamp, including one Kendrick snagged for "Momma"). Next month they deliver a full LP that'll be right at home on Stone's Throw.
  • Luxury Death - Radiator Face

Lots of blog love for this new project from Ben Thompson (formerly of Sheffield band Nai Harvest, who announced their break-up in June) and partner Meg Williams. The duo channel Monster-era REM and "haunting lo-fi" (Gold Flake Paint) on their debut EP.
  • Yussef Kamaal - Yo Chavez

Posted by 3 blogs • On Bandcamp • Also on: SpotifyAmazon
LA's thriving jazz revival is interlaced with that city's beatmaking scene. Similarly, UK duo Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu) draw inspiration from London's underground (jungle, grime, pirate radio) on their debut for the Brownswood label.
  • Meech - Tango (prod. by Mic Lee)

Following an EP together a few months back, emcee Meech (FKA Demetrius G) reconnects with producer and fellow Chicagoan Mic Lee for a smooth new track. No release plans yet, but considering the impressive flow here, it'd be wise to lock in
  • Katie Gately - Lift

The LA producer has a debut LP on the way via influential avant-pop label Tri Angle—a favorite of Bjork's, who comes to mind here on the dense layering of "Lift." The track works with an array sounds Gately pulled from childhood: fireworks, screams, claps and beyond.

Physicalist, the new LP from New York City synthesis trio Forma, out on Kranky Records.
    GOOD READ

For Thump, rave historian Michaelangelo Matos compiles a college course-worth of good reads called Dance Music 101 (pop quiz next week):

"This introductory course seeks to give students a foundation in a handful of the most important electronic dance music genres, broadly defined, with special attention paid to the key personalities, recordings, and clubs that helped shape and popularize them."

    Thanks for listening!
