Bob Dylan & the Hawks - Hartford 30 Oct 1965 [FLAC] [bootleg]

Hello again.
Wow.
I'm on a roll here it seems!

Today I bring you something a little different. Well, it's Bob Dylan so nothing different there but it's Dylan in his very early days, playing with a band, 'The Hawks'. which is actually 'The Band' as you will no doubt have heard before, only with a member missing and another added!
Go have a wee read here if you wish.

Further info on this recording is here and I highly recommend you go read it before downloading!
This is an audience recording and, as I just learned from that link, was recorded on a Woolworth's handheld tape recorder. Quality is not great. In fact it's not even 'good'.
It's distant, it's got noise, crackles and well ... don't be expecting to put this on CD and have a crystal clear sound. It isn't happening! Hehe.
However! This is great to listen to for many reasons.
The first being that you get the chance to sit in on a concert that would have been great to go to ... Dylan, in his formative years, singing some of those tracks that were bound to become huge and are now classics that we all know.
You can almost hear the songs taking shape before they grew into the songs we know today.
I wouldn't recommend a new Dylan fan to listen to this as they may not feel the magic that I feel when I hear it, but to anyone who is a fan and loves early Dylan, you MUST get this.
You will not be disappointed!

Bob Dylan - 1965 San Francisco Press Conference (Video)

Hello there.
Ill health is a bitch and yet again has been getting to me a bit much. Things are happening with the hospital to try and sort me out. New treatments etc. Fingers crossed and all that.

Now! When I first saw this I was totally blown away. Not only had I somehow been led to believe that Dylan had no real interviews of any length recorded, but also that he didn't give proper press conferences either. How wrong I was! This may be the only press conference he did (I think!) but it is no less amazing for that.
He's young and seems to be chain smoking whilst having a bit of a laugh answering the questions with, sometimes, quite irrelevant answers.
I have to say it's a sign of the times on the video that the questions are just so...well you'll see what I mean.
This is a fine piece of history we have here. I have watched it so many times since I found it and it never really tires or fails to amuse or interest me.
I was going to rip another Dylan Bootleg DVD for you so I got one called 'Compilation #1 'Just a Song n Dance Man'.
It has a few performances on it, mostly old stuff and then it has this full press conference at the end.
After I ripped the whole DVD I was converting it to XviD and I noticed that all of the other stuff has already been shared with you as it is also on the other 'Telecasts' discs I uploaded. So, not wanting to reupload the same thing again I just took the press conference from it and have encoded and upped that for you.

Please don't miss this chance to see it in better quality than youtube for a start! It's a special video for any Dylan fan but it's also interesting to see how times have changed, in the way the people are, the questions they ask etc...it's fascinating to me.

The boring Stuff then..

Bob Dylan's 1965 San Francisco Press Conference

When Bob Dylan's five concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area were
scheduled in December 1965, the idea was proposed that he hold a
press conference in the studios of KQED, the educational
television station.

Dylan accepted and flew out a day early to make it.

He arrived early for the press conference accompanied by Robbie
Robertson and several other members of his band, drank tea in the
KQED office and insisted that he was ready to talk about "anything
you want to talk about." His only request was that he be able to
leave at 3 PM so that he could rehearse in the Berkeley Community
Theater where he was to sing that night.

At the conclusion of the press conference, he chatted with friends
for a while, jumped into a car and went back to Berkeley for the
rehearsal. He cut the rehearsal off early to go to the hotel and
watch the TV program which was shown that night and repeated the
following week.

This is the only full length press conference by Dylan ever
televised in it's entirety.

Bob Dylan The Improved Genuine Telecasts 1963-2002 DVD 3 {DVD RiP} XviD

Hello world.
I do wonder how many ears or eyes this reaches. After so many times of failing to update and being too ill to bother, I developed a slight fear of looking at the site statistics. It used to be a couple of thousand or more a day. I know it isn't that now but I also know I can scale it up again once I am healthier and able to put the work in. When I am able, I still post the same and I would even if YOU were the only visitor.
You are!
Hehe.

So, no Theme Time.
A lot of people will be walking around in utter misery at this time. Some may even contemplate suicide.
Well I am here to stop suicide!

Today I am happy to announce that, finally, the man who promised to bring you 6 DVD rips of Dylan Telecasts has actually got his finger out of his arse and been working on some DVD Ripping. (Remember Disc One and Disc Two?)
It is here!
Dylan Telecasts Collection, finally I bring you Disc number Three.
Have a wee look at the screenshots here. You can click an image to see a larger one.

It's taken a bit of work and time but I believe the effort is worth it.
I am posting a clip of every track on youtube, as I did in the past, but you will be able to download the higher quality full Avi files of the rip.
I split it into two 700mb avi files encoded with XviD.
So much of this 3rd DVD was taken from old VHS transfers and other sources of varying quality that I'm afraid you just get used to it when you watch. If you were expecting HD then go away now hehe!
Bear in mind though that this is the BEST quality of these recordings to be found anywhere and so very likely no others exist.
The rips I did have not degraded the quality enough for you to notice much. I put the XviD version on my TV and then I put the same track on from the DVD...I really could not tell the difference! Honestly.
So let me just grab and paste a few details about the disc here and then furnish you with the links you will be needing.
Oh and rapidshare links are being uploaded but, not until overnight tonight. They are coming, just be patient if you can only use rapidshare.
Megaupload is up for now.

As I've said in the past, if you want to read the info on this collection then go here but there isn't much more than what I'm telling you as that is where I get my information! Hehe.

Time for the boring stuff now.

Hideous Kinky - The soundtrack to the movie. [OST]

Oliver twisted his ankle!

Hello folks...we have gone from glorious sunshine here in South East England to one of those horrible grey days where you could almost be convinced that the whole concept of 'weather' has been aborted for a day. There is no weather. It is just a void.
Grey.
It is due to this that I am sharing today's album with you.

You know when you ask someone their favourite album, it is always a hard question for anyone to answer. I hate the question myself and would rather avoid it. I just don't think you can, in your head, compare and contrast so many different genres and artists and weed it down to a single ONE. Out of all I have listened to and al I have heard, bring all of that down to just one single favourite?
Impossible right?
I can always say who I think is talented, who is great at singing, guitarists, overall performance etc but I don't think I can just say x is the best ever ever above all others.
Jimi Hendrix?
Hehe just kidding although he is one of the most talented.

Through the years I have noted that my girlfriend or she who must not be named, has a favourite in this album I posted today./
She loves the movie it is from - I have to admit I can't really remember much about it although I've seen it more than once! - and she just loves the whole 'freedom, 60's ideal' sort of atmosphere it gives.
I have to agree. I listened to it the other day and really got into it. It follows that an album that is focusing so much on the free love 60's time is also a great album to relax to with your favourite smokage.
As I always used to say around here; if you haven't listened to this before then DO IT NOW as it really is an experience worth visiting, though if you know all the artists and tracks then you may not want to bother but, even then, this is a great playlist of such tunes and, amazingly, one of the few albums that was bought and paid for in a shop that I have in my collection!

So.
Enjoy, the soundtrack from Hideous Kinky.
If you can download freely from rapidshare and want to see this movie, you might want to have a look HERE.
If you are a torrent user and want to see the film then lookie HERE, and demonoid, HERE it's a torrent! I'll keep it seeding forever so jump on it and get it going... You know there are a very few versions of this online and they mostly have horrendous audio or are a VHS to PC rip and not good. I just got this one upped myself so take advantage if you want to see the film!!

Tracklist
1. On The Road Again - Canned Heat (5:04)
2. Here Comes The Sun - Richie Havens (3:49)
3. White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane (2:35)
4. Worlds They Rise And Fall - Incredible String Band (3:26)
5. Baba Baba Maktoubi - Jil Jilala (9:47)

Jim White - Wrong Eyed Jesus (1997)

Hello again so soon!

I did say I had a great album for you and this is the truth!
In fact, what better Christmas gift to you could I leave!!
I am leaving for the train station in about ten minutes so, forgive me for not writing much here!!

There is a documentary/film with the same name, or more accurately 'Searching for the Wrong-eyed Jesus' which is a BBC thing and sounds really interesting. so I am going to get that also and maybe share the film here too if you want?

I got the music a while back and I just love the guys voice. The lyrics are poetry in motion too.
This guy is one of those rare finds. Like the Bob dylans and the Tom Waits before him. He has that special something.
Listen and you will see.

Expect more of him soon after I get back.

OK folks, have a good one as they say!

See you in a week or so.

Bob Dylan The Improved Genuine Telecasts 1963-2002 DVD 2 {DVD RiP} XviD

Hello? Is this for real?
He-llo-o-o?
Yes you read that title right. Somewhere, in the darkness of the depths of the candyfloss of the forgotten realms of time and space that is my mind, an unknown and somewhat erratic force has spewn forth the next DVD in the set of the Genuine Improved Telecasts Bootlegs that I kind of promised you a while back.
That day has come my friends so, for those of you brave enough to still be here, your reward is now.

As before, I have taken the original DVD and re-encoded it to XviD so I can upload a bit of a smaller, AVI file. This time I made two avi files of about 700MB each, to keep good quality and audio quality too. (The first disc is encoded to only one single 70MB avi file). Maybe I will redo that one.
The result, as always is with my 'film stuff' on the PC, is great (I can't be humble as I am always trying to perfect my video encoding/editing abilities and I really am pretty damn good at it hehe).

For some information on this you can visit this page but you won't find out anything more than what I am about to tell you..that is, the tracks on the film and the order they come in as well as where they are originally from.

Firstly, let me give you some details about film bitrate etc...

--- File Information ---

File ONE: 001_Dylan Telecasts Disc Two.avi
Running Time (hh:mm:ss): 58:30.542
File Size (in bytes): 732,813,312

File TWO: 002_Dylan Telecasts Disc Two.avi
Running Time (hh:mm:ss): 1:01:29
File Size (in bytes): 744,914,944

--- Video Information ---
Video Codec: XviD ISO MPEG-4
Video Bitrate (kbps): 1402
Resolution: 544x384
Aspect Ratio: 1.417
Framerate: 29.970

--- Audio Information ---
Audio Codec: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate(kbps): 256
Audio Sample Rate (Hz): 48000
Audio Bitrate Type: CBR
Audio Channels: 2

And now on to the track list...
The numbering convention is simple.
The full set comprises 6 DVDs.
So the first track on disc one is '01'. Therefore the tracks on disc two
just follow on from where Disc ONE left off at track 29.

Freight Trains & Bob Dylan

Back for a moment.
I have been listening to old Bob Dylan and really getting to know it and loving it more all the time. I thought the track Freight Train Blues on his album, Bob Dylan (1962) (PASSWORD FOR THAT FILE:power) was just brilliant and, surprise surprise, it makes you think of freight trains and long journeys...well, me at least. I have spent a few long months travelling like that except for the fact I was in England, Scotland or Wales and never even saw a freight train! Skipped a few public trains though...I don't suppose that counts.
...it seemed like an adventure to me.
My Dad, a bit older than me, a lot more life experienced and, well, obviously of the same stock because he HAS travelled.
More relevant here is the fact that he travelled from the East coast of USA to the West Coast.
On a freight Train.
Yep. I am pretty jealous of that.

He went from California to New York.
I would need to get him talking and ask him how long it took exactly but I doubt he would remember anything 'exactly' about it. I have heard the stories though and it's amazing.
I decided to put together a video to go along with the song Freight Train Blues.
Hope you enjoy it.

It is far from being the only track on that album that conjures up Freight Trains...Dylan was so different then, a lot of the tracks transport you across the states and into some historic moment you might have to go looking up on google...heh...or is that just me?

Some great rarities coming soon...just tryin to encode them to AVI files and UPLOAD...watch this space!

Info...as far as I can find anyway:

BOB DYLAN - BBC TV Specials Recorded June 1st 1965 "SPEED CORRECTED"

Bob Dylan
BBC Studios
London, England
June 1st 1965

A version of this recording was put out recently taken from a
commercial bootleg (Black Dog) which had been sourced from the original Torrent on
I believe ********. Speed varied from track to track and none were correct although
an attempt had been made by *** who had the original source CDR (see original notes
below)

This torrent is sourced from a CDR recieved from *** before the shows were bootlegged.

The improvements I have made are speed correcting each track individually, as this is
what *** "attempted" with his original copy. I used "At The BEEB", "1965 Revisited" and my
original "Vinyl Bootleg" to compare speeds. Using Soundforge 9 Time Stretch the percentage
variations were from 100.42% to 104.17%. Burnt to disc and played back it sounds good to
me and pretty much as close as it's likely to get. Playback level was increased by 3.73db

There is a speed fluctuation at the beginning of Track 7 which is on the original tape
no attempt was made to correct this

Source: Open Reel Tape at 3.75ips from Rediffusion Box > Minidisc > CDR > EAC > CoolEdit >
CDR > EAC > Soundforge 9 > FLAC Level 8 align on sector boundaries

Artwork Included

First Show:
1 Ballad Of Hollis Brown
2 Mr Tambourine Man
3 Gates Of Eden
4 If You Gotta Go, Go Now
5 Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll
6 It Ain't Me Babe

Second Show:
7 Love Minus Zero/No Limit
8 One Too Many Mornings
9 Boots Of Spanish Leather
10 It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
11 She Belongs To Me
12 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

Tracks 1-6 First show broadcast June 19, 1965
Tracks 7-12 Second show broadcast June 26, 1965

ORIGINAL NOTES:
Recorded on 19th & 26th June 1965, in Hull, Yorkshire, U.K. using a KB domestic 1/4in
recorder with a BSR tape deck, running at a speed of 3.75ips via a line connection to
Rediffusion wired system junction box
The recording is in Mono
Transferred from original master tape to MiniDisc then to CD-R
This tape, while in great quality, came in the wrong speed and needed some work before
it was listenable. Volume, Speed & pitch corrected in London, U.K. 10th - 12th September
2005 using CoolEdit Pro 2.0. Some additional remastering including fade-in, fade-outs
at start & end of disc were done. Noise or hiss reduction has not been performed, in
order to best preserve the atmosphere and feel of the original tape which this can
sometimes take away

(These are not MY notes, these notes were already included when I got the set elsewhere!)

My Notes:
The flac files were as mentioned, transcoded to high quality MP3 for you!

Bob dylan SPECIAL from MP3@3PM! Telecasts videos from DVD RiP...read on for details....

Hello friends.
I grabbed the torrented file of the 'Genuine IMPROVED Telecasts DVD last week and I absolutely love it.
Confused?
Firstly, have a look here at what it contains. Remember I only have recoded the FIRST Disc so far.
A bit more info is here and even this cheeky person auctioning it off!

I decided to re-encode the whole of the first DVD into XviD (that is AVI files to those who aren't bothered about such details!) and then upload it online for you all and the folk who visit my favoured haunt, when it is working, avaxhome.
I actually did a fine job I must say! (Humble I know...)
The whole disc into a single CD sized Avi file is quite an achievement and the quality is fair considering it is such poor source material to begin with.
For now, I have split the avi into separate tracks, resized them to youtube friendly aspect ratios and then uploaded the tracks to youtube so that folk can have a look at them. remember these are re-encoded again to be resized. so the quality you see on the youtube ones is definitely less than the avi file I created.
I give a link to a track cut off the avi file, that isn't re-encoded, so that you can see a true sample of the real file to see the quality for yourself!

Again folks, my health is a friggin' nightmare right now..serious shit indeed. so lacks of updates etc..life goes on.
I have a hospital consultation tomorrow and there are plans to start a newly developed Crohns drug so we are going to be discussing it and I already have decided to go for it...whatever the bloody side effects.
OK so until I get back from the hospital tomorrow, as it is so late and I have been re-encoding and uploading all night I can only leave you with the youtube clips for now. Only a few have been done there so far...takes so bloody long.

Enjoy and er...is there any point in me mentioning a comment is a good thing..?
Hehe probably not you lazy shits.

And a little more copy&paste; for you:
On the disc is some words from the man too...quoted here -
BobTalk

This ones called New Orleans Rag, you'll find out why. I'll try to remember all the verses for you. At one time this was very long. But …. I don't think it will be quite that long tonight. I'll try to see what I can put in it though.

Red wing. It's reform school. Don't have no high school football teams though or nothing like that. No cheer leaders.

This is for all the boys who know girls who want them to go out and get themselves killed. (before Hero Blues)

If you …., want to know about the abolishment of boxing I would ask Miss Benny Kid Paret or Mrs. Davey Moore before I asked Cassius Clay. Just a personal tendency there. (before Who Killed Davey Moore?)

I believe in the ten commandments. The first one is I am the Lord thy God. It's a great commandment if it's not said by the wrong people. So here's this is called Masters of War.

This is a carnival song, fairgrounds. I just want to speak about it. (before Dusty Old Fairgrounds).

I have a poem here. It's not a poem its ahh. This is the first concert I played alone in New York, really. An a fellow in Brooklyn State Hospital, his name is Woody Guthrie. But err Woody is more than a folk singer. He's really something else more than a folk singer an err there's this book coming out that's dedicated to him. An they asked me to write something about Woody. like what does Woody mean to you in 25 words. An err I couldn't do it I wrote out 5 pages an err I have it here. I have it here by accident actually. But I'd like to say this out loud. So this is my feelings towards Woody Guthrie. Cannot really be told in err how many records of his I buy, it's a lot more than that actually. So if you can roll along with this thing here this is called Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie.

Leonard Cohen - Greatest Hits [1975]

Leonard Cohen.
The name always brings me vague and hazy memories of dark nights sitting by the glowing coal fireside, my dad, drunk, on the armchair going on about Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Leonard cohen.
I couldn't tell you the exact words (especially these days with my goldfish-like memory) but the general message amounted to something along the lines of: 'Bob Dylan is King of the Universe but only because he had a great admiration and respect for these other guys Woody & Leonard!' ... 'You have to listen to Leonard Cohen son!' ... at which point he would stumble across and place a cohen album on the old record player. then...aaaah. He might fall asleep. Or at least he would fall silent which was almost as good!

Leonard Cohen.
If you know him then you really don't need me to tell you what I hardly know.
If you don't know him then I ought to be telling you 'This is your lucky day!'.
I won't bore you with badly researched biographical facts that you can find for yourself at wikipedia or artist direct or here.
You can even have a listen to one of his great songs if you click this link...Suzanne
I will give you the advice my dad gave me when I was a bit older though as it's pretty good - start with the 'Greatest Hits' album and then, at your own pace you can dip into his other stuff. And, as my Dad also used to say - you won't find one fucking bad song by Leonard Cohen, the man's a genius!

I agree.
