Queensland is proudly known as the sunshine state of Australia, and any time of year makes a good time to visit Brisbane (often called Brizzy by locals). Brisbane sightseeing is marked by parks, coastline, gardens, and more. Whether you want to play in the water or partake in some epic shopping, this Australian city welcomes you.
Start your Brisbane tour with a stop at Mount Coot-tha. The name of this mountain peak is derived from the Maori word for honey, which was once found in abundance here. While you’re at Mount Coot-tha, explore the stars of the Southern Hemisphere at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. Next, visit a laughing kookaburra at Brisbane Botanical Gardens.
Don’t forget about the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where you can visit koalas, kangaroos, and other local animals. Once you’re ready to commune with humans again, head to Queen Street Mall for the heart of Brisbane’s shopping. The South Bank is rich with free activities, markets, and a lagoon where you can cool off.
Spare some time to take the public ferry to Newfoundland Park, where you can visit the restored Brisbane Powerhouse, filled with art installations. Brisbane can get a hard wrap sometimes, by being seen as small and boring, like a pocket dictionary. Well, that image is being shattered! Brisbane has taken out the top spot in TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Destinations on the Rise, for the South Pacific. Yeah! Woot! Go Brissie! The guys at TripAdvisor know how proudly I rep Brisbane and let me know about this great news. Hi friends, I've sort of smashed together the past few weeks into four minutes. As the title suggests, this is an accurate description of what living in Brisbane is like - which does mean LEAVING Brisbane quite a bit.
The little hike you saw was from Mt. Coolum at the Sunshine Coast - it was incredibly gentle. Just don't do it at midday like we did :-D

Brisbane
Brisbane (
i/ˈbrɪzbən/) is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland, and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of 2.3 million, and the South East Queensland urban conurbation, centred on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3.4 million. The Brisbane central business district stands on the original European settlement and is situated inside a bend of the Brisbane River, about 15 kilometres (9 miles) from its mouth at Moreton Bay. The metropolitan area extends in all directions along the floodplain of the Brisbane River Valley between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range, sprawling across several of Australia's most populous local government areas (LGAs), most centrally the City of Brisbane, which is by far the most populous LGA in the nation. The demonym of Brisbane is Brisbanite.
One of the oldest cities in Australia, Brisbane was founded upon the ancient homelands of the Indigenous Turrbal and Jagera peoples. Named after the Brisbane River on which it is located – which in turn was named after Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825 – the area was chosen as a place for secondary offenders from the Sydney Colony. A penal settlement was founded in 1824 at Redcliffe, 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of the central business district, but was soon abandoned and moved to North Quay in 1825, opening to free settlement in 1842. The city was marred by Aboriginal conflict between 1843-1855, and development was partly set back by the Great Fire of Brisbane, and the Great Brisbane Flood. Brisbane was chosen as the capital when Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony from New South Wales in 1859. During World War II, Brisbane played a central role in the Allied campaign and served as the South West Pacific headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur.

Queensland
Queensland (abbreviated as Qld) is the second-largest and third-most-populous state in Australia. Situated in the north-east of the country, it is bordered by the Northern Territory, South Australia and New South Wales to the west, south-west and south respectively. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean. Queensland has a population of 4,750,500, concentrated along the coast and particularly in the state's South East. The state is the world's sixth largest sub-national entity, with an area of 1,852,642 km2. The capital and largest city in the state is Brisbane, Australia's third largest city. Often referred to as the "Sunshine State", Queensland is home to 10 of Australia's 30 largest cities and is the nation's third largest economy.
Queensland was first inhabited by Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders. The first European to land in Queensland (and Australia) was Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon in 1606, who explored the west coast of the Cape York Peninsula near present-day Weipa. In 1770, Lieutenant James Cook claimed the east coast of Australia for the Kingdom of Great Britain. The colony of New South Wales was founded in 1788 by Governor Arthur Phillip at Sydney; New South Wales at that time included all of what is now Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania. Queensland was explored in subsequent decades until the establishment of a penal colony at Brisbane in 1824 by John Oxley. Penal transportation ceased in 1839 and free settlement was allowed from 1842.

Hi friends, I've sort of smashed together the past few weeks into four minutes. As the title suggests, this is an accurate description of what living in Brisbane is like - which does mean LEAVING Brisbane quite a bit. The little hike you saw was from Mt. Coolum at the Sunshine Coast - it was incredibly gentle. The little hike you saw was from Mt. Coolum at the Sunshine Coast - it was incredibly gentle. Just don't do it at midday like we did :-D

South Bank Parklands is a great place to take the family, start with the wheel of Brisbane for great views of the river, take the kids to the playground and then go for a dip at the manmade beach.
Art lovers should head to the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Art Gallery located not far from South Bank.
Visit the highest peak in Brisbane for stunning views of the city at Mt Coot-tha and take a stroll along the walking trails. If you don't fancy walking to the top, browse the botanic gardens and parklands at the base.
The kids will love a trip to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, hold the koalas and hand feed the kangaroos.

Coolum at the Sunshine Coast - it was incredibly gentle. The little hike you saw was from Mt. Coolum at the Sunshine Coast - it was incredibly gentle. Just don't do it at midday like we did :-D
