The United Nations Development Programme is working to facilitate the increase in financing of protected areas in Malaysia and the region.
On a global scale, protected areas are severely under-financed where the need is ranged between USD300 to 400 billion a year. Currently, it is estimated at only USD50 billion.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, working in 177 countries and territories.
UNDP is fully engaged in supporting Malaysia’s national priorities and the implementation of national medium and long-term development plans such as the 11th Malaysia Plan and other sectoral development policies and strategies.
