Turkey (i/ˈtɜːrki/; Turkish: Türkiye [ˈtyɾcije]), officially the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ), is a parliamentary republic in Eurasia, largely located in Western Asia, with the smaller portion of Eastern Thrace in Southeast Europe. Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Syria and Iraq to the south; Iran, Armenia, and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the east; Georgia to the northeast; Bulgaria to the northwest; and Greece to the west. The Black Sea is to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean Sea to the west. The Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles (which together form the Turkish Straits) demarcate the boundary between Thrace and Anatolia; they also separate Europe and Asia. Turkey's location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes it a country of significant geostrategic importance.
Turkey has been inhabited since the paleolithic age, including various ancient Anatolian civilizations, Aeolian, Dorian and Ionian Greeks, Thracians, Armenians, and Assyrians. After Alexander the Great's conquest, the area was Hellenized, a process which continued under the Roman Empire and its transition into the Byzantine Empire. The Seljuk Turks began migrating into the area in the 11th century, starting the process of Turkification, which was greatly accelerated by the Seljuk victory over the Byzantines at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071. The Seljuk Sultanate of Rûm ruled Anatolia until the Mongol invasion in 1243, upon which it disintegrated into several small Turkish beyliks.
Daniele Ganser (born 29 August 1972) is a Swiss historian. He wrote his dissertation on secret armies run by NATO in Europe (e.g. see Operation Gladio) and has done research questioning the authenticity of the official US report on the September 11 attacks.
Ganser was born in Lugano, Switzerland and was Senior Researcher at the ETH Zurich, Center for Security Studies. He was president (2006–2012) of the Swiss branch of the "Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas" (ASPO), and teaches History and Future of Energy Systems at the University of St. Gallen.
Ganser wrote a chapter in David Ray Griffin's book 9/11 & American Empire. Ganser argues that all three versions – the "surprise" theory that is the official version, as well as the versions that the administration let the attack go ahead or even planned it – are all actually conspiracy theories. The U.S. Embassy has protested Ganser's views. Ganser is known for relating the events of 9/11 to his research on Operation Gladio. In the same way that the strategy of tension, which Ganser links to Operation Gladio, sought to pin right-wing terrorist attacks on the political left in order to inspire fear among the citizenry, Ganser likewise contends that "it has been said that Saddam Hussein had biological weapons, that there was a link between Iraq and the attacks of September 11, or that there was a link between Iraq and the terrorists of Al Qaeda. But all this was not true. By these lies, we wanted to make the world believe that the muslims wanted to spread terrorism around, that this war was necessary to fight terror. However, the real reason for the war is the control of energy resources."
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (Turkish pronunciation: [ɾeˈd͡ʒep tajˈjip ˈæɾdo.an]; born 26 February 1954) is the 12th and current President of Turkey, in office since 2014. He previously served as the Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014 and as the Mayor of İstanbul from 1994 to 1998. He founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001 and led it to three general election victories in 2002, 2007 and 2011 before standing down as leader upon his election as President in 2014. Originating from an Islamist political background and as a self-described conservative democrat, his administration has overseen social conservative and liberal economic policies.
Educated in an Imam Hatip school, Erdoğan was a semi-professional footballer playing for Kasımpaşa Spor Kulübü and was involved in Islamist political movements as a student before being elected as the Mayor of İstanbul from the Islamist Welfare Party in 1994. He was banned form office and sentenced to 10 months in prison for religious intolerance in 1998 and later abandoned openly Islamist politics, establishing the moderate conservative AKP in 2001. Winning just short of a two-thirds parliamentary majority in the 2002 general election, the party's co-founder Abdullah Gül became Prime Minister until his government annulled Erdoğan's ban from political office. Erdoğan subsequently became Prime Minister in March 2003 after winning a seat in a by-election held in Siirt.

Travel video about destination Turkey. Turkey, ‘the land beneath the half moon’. We begin our journey in Istanbul, golden gateway to the Orient, a city that was once the centre of the Old World and still reflects two and a half centuries of history. On the opposite side of the Galata Bridge on the banks of the Golden Horn is the Yeni Cami Mosque with a large number of domes and minarets built one on top of the other plus a number of precious glass windows. The Grand Basare is a city within a city. Through a large gate there is a labyrinth of corridors that were built over many centuries. License Video: http://dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true More often than not, people spend all their time in Turkey mostly in Istanbul. Some may diverted their time to cities along the Mediterranean sea or the cave city of Cappadocia. But Turkey has much more to offer than that especially in the east! After arriving in Istanbul, I was bombarded by the sight of throngs of tourists. The city itself is great and all but I just can't handle the crowds so my quest to get away from all the tourists began by starting off from Selcuk and traveled across the country through Pamukakle, Antalya, Fethiye, Faralya, Kabak, Goreme, Mt Nemrut, Van Trabzon and finally Kars where I crossed the border to Georgia (stay tuned for my next video about Georgia).
