Jeff Zucker

Jeffrey Adam "Jeff" Zucker (born April 9, 1965) is the current president of CNN Worldwide. He previously served as the President and CEO of NBC Universal. Zucker has also served as an Executive in Residence at Columbia Business School. In November 2012, Zucker was picked to take over as the President of CNN Worldwide in January 2013. Zucker oversees CNN, CNN International, HLN (TV channel) and CNN Digital.

Early life and education

Zucker was born into a Jewish family in Homestead, Florida, near Miami. His father, Matthew, was a cardiologist, and his mother, Arline, was a school teacher.

He was a captain of the North Miami Senior High School tennis team, editor of the school paper, and a teenage freelance reporter ("stringer") for The Miami Herald. The 5-foot-6-inch (1.68 m) Zucker also was president of his sophomore, junior, and senior classes, running on the slogan: "The little man with the big ideas." He graduated from North Miami Senior High School in 1982. Before college, he took part in Northwestern University's National High School Institute program for journalism. Zucker went on to Harvard University. He was President of the school newspaper, The Harvard Crimson during his senior year and as such he encouraged the decades-old prank rivalry with the Harvard Lampoon, headed by future NBC colleague Conan O'Brien. Zucker graduated from Harvard in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in American history.

CNN

The Cable News Network (CNN) is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of Time Warner. The 24-hour cable news channel was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner. Upon its launch, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.

While the news channel has numerous affiliates, CNN primarily broadcasts from the Time Warner Center in New York City, and studios in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, its headquarters at the CNN Center in Atlanta is only used for weekend programming. CNN is sometimes referred to as CNN/U.S. to distinguish the American channel from its international sister network, CNN International. As of August 2010, CNN is available in over 100 million U.S. households. Broadcast coverage of the U.S. channel extends to over 890,000 American hotel rooms, as well as carriage on cable and satellite providers throughout Canada. Globally, CNN programming airs through CNN International, which can be seen by viewers in over 212 countries and territories.

Donna Brazile

Donna Lease Brazile (born December 15, 1959) is an American author, academic, and political analyst who is Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. She was the first African American to direct a major presidential campaign, acting as campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000. She briefly served as interim Chair for the DNC in the spring of 2011.

Early life

Brazile was born in Kenner, Louisiana, the daughter of Jean Marie (Brown) and Lionel Joseph Brazile, the third of nine children. Her family's surname was "Braswell" several generations back. Brazile became interested in politics at the age of nine when a local candidate for office promised to build a neighborhood playground. She participated in a TRIO Upward Bound program while in high school. Brazile earned a bachelor's degree in industrial psychology from Louisiana State University in 1981, and is a Fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. After graduating from Louisiana State University, Brazile worked for several advocacy groups in Washington, D.C., and was instrumental in the successful campaign to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a federal holiday.

Jeff Zucker: Obviously it's incredibly, incredibly disturbing, what we've learned in the last 24 hours from the reporting from The New York Times and Variety. And incredibly, incredibly sad. First of all, you know you have to feel for the women who endure this and lived with it and have come forward. And you know, obviously I've known Matt for 25 years and I didn't know this Matt. Mike Shields: You didn’t see this coming? Zucker: No, look I mean, what's chronicled incredibly well and in Variety and the New York Times is deviant and predatory behavior. And you know, obviously, that is not something that I was ever aware of or had even heard of or had ever been suggested or anything like that. And it's just incredibly, incredibly heartbreaking. Shields: When you were there at the "Today" show was it, it’s been depicted as a real boys club. A ruckus kind of place, is that a fair characterization? Zucker: Yeah, so I had been gone from the "Today" show for 17 years. I was at the "Today" show, I was the executive producer at the "Today" show from 1992 to 2000 and that's not the way that I would have characterized the show at all at the time. And you know, obviously, in that time that I was there, I was at NBC for 25 years. For five years in my career, you know, no one ever brought to me or to my knowledge, there was never a complaint about Matt, there was never a suggestion of that kind of deviant, predatory behavior, not even a whisper of it. Nothing like that. So you know I can't say that that's the culture that we lived in. Shields: What about at CNN right now? I imagine every company in the country is reconciling with this or trying to figure out, “Do we have a problem? What’s going on?” I know that at Jake Tapper’s show there was an announcement yesterday, what’s been going on at CNN in the midst of all this? Zucker: Yeah look I don’t think it’s just the media world either, right? Obviously. But clearly, the media world is not immune. We had a producer on one of our programs in Washington, “State of the Union,” where there were, there was a behavior that was completely inconsistent with our standards and culture. And we dismissed him last week. And you know look, like the way that NBC was when I was there, the way CNN is today if we are aware of any of that. If any of that is brought to our attention will investigate immediately, and that's what we did last week. Bonifield expresses clear doubts that there is a fire behind the Russia smoke, stating, “I haven’t seen any good enough evidence to show that the President committed a crime.” He also confirms suspicions that CNN staff is ideologically biased against Trump, stating, “I know a lot of people don’t like him and they’d like to see him get kicked out of office…” Bonifield even further confirms CNN’s bias against the President, stating, “I think the President is probably right to say, like, look you are witch hunting me…you have no real proof.” Bonifield exposes that Russia has been great for CNN’s ratings, and that orders from CEO Jeff Zucker himself have directed CNN to pursue Russia leads at the expense of other stories. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson went at CNN for the second night in a row, revealing that in an editorial call, CNN head Jeff Zucker was “fuming” and “enraged” over Donna Brazile’s revelations that made the Clinton camp look bad. The Daily Caller co-founder recalled how in an article for Politico, former DNC interim chair Donna Brazile “described how the Hillary Clinton campaign basically took over the DNC during the Democrat primaries. The next day, which was last Friday, CNN chief Jeff Zucker held a conference call with some of his senior programming staff. He had seen Brazile’s Politico piece and according to a very good source was ‘fuming’ and ‘enraged.'” -- “‘Brazile is a liar,’ he said, and suggested that CNN’s news shows should demonstrate that she is. At least one participant on that call described plans to have Donna Brazile on CNN, and in fact CNN producers did try to book Donna Brazile. So far she has not appeared on the network. That is all factual. We await CNN’s denial of any of it,” he added. This comes after Tucker revealed Monday that CNN was instructing its staff to discredit Brazile in response to the former interim DNC head making Hillary Clinton look bad. Carlson also teased his upcoming interview with Donna Brazile on his show on Fox News Channel Wednesday night.
