Peter Kennaugh

Peter Kennaugh MBE (born 15 June 1989) is a Manx professional racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI ProTour team Team Sky. In 2012 he won the gold medal as part of the Great Britain Team Pursuit team at the 2012 Summer Olympics becoming the first Manxman in 100 years to win gold.

Career

Early life and career

Born in Douglas, Isle of Man, Peter's younger brother Tim, and their father are also cyclists. Peter's mother Jackie also cycled and formerly held the Isle of Man's 10-mile time trial record. He began cycling competitively in BMX at the age of 6. Kennaugh attended school at St Ninian's.

He became a member of British Cycling's Olympic Academy in 2008, moving with the rest of the squad to live in Tuscany, Italy. In 2008 he came second in the senior national road race championships thus becoming the British under 23 champion. In February 2009 he became the British madison champion partnering Mark Christian.

On 9 September 2009, it was announced that Kennaugh would turn professional in 2010, riding for the new British professional Team Sky. He was described by Cycling Weekly as "the most talented youngster to roll off the Isle of Man production line since his friend and star sprinter Mark Cavendish".

Chris Froome

Christopher Clive Froome, OBE (born 20 May 1985) is a British professional road racing cyclist for UCI ProTeam Team Sky, who competed for Kenya until 2008. Twice a winner of the Tour de France, he is seen as one of the most successful riders of the recent era. Brought up in Kenya and South Africa, Froome has ridden under a British licence since 2008 on the basis of his passport and his father's and grandparents' country of birth.

In 2007 Froome turned professional at the age of 22 with Team Konica Minolta. He moved to Europe to further his career, joining team Barloworld. In 2010 he moved to Team Sky and has become one of the team's key cyclists. Froome made his breakthrough as a Grand Tour contender during the 2011 Vuelta a España where he finished second overall.

At the 2012 Tour de France, riding as a super-domestique for Bradley Wiggins, Froome won stage seven and finished second overall, behind only Wiggins in the same race as the best British performance in the race's history. In the same year he also won the bronze medal in the time trial event at the Olympic Games and finished fourth in the Vuelta a España. His first multi-stage race win came in 2013, in the Tour of Oman, followed by wins in the Critérium International, the Tour de Romandie, the Critérium du Dauphiné, and the Tour de France.
