Bleecker Street is a west–east street in New York City borough of Manhattan. It is most famous today as a Greenwich Village nightclub district. The street connects a neighborhood today popular for music venues and comedy, but which was once a major center for American bohemia. The street is named after Anthony Bleecker, a 19th-century writer whose family farm the street ran through.

Bleecker Street connects Abingdon Square (the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Hudson Street in the West Village) to the Bowery and East Village.

History

Bleecker Street is named by and after the Bleecker family because the street ran through the farm of the family. In 1808, Anthony Bleecker and his wife deeded to the city a major portion of the land on which Bleecker Street sits.

Originally Bleecker Street extended only as far west as Sixth Avenue. In 1829 it was joined with Herring Street, extending Bleecker Street northwest to Abingdon Square.

Simon & Garfunkel

Simon & Garfunkel was an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. They were one of the most popular recording artists of the 1960s and became counterculture icons of the decade's social revolution, alongside artists such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan. Their biggest hits—including "The Sound of Silence" (1964/1965), "Mrs. Robinson" (1968), "Bridge over Troubled Water" (1969), and "The Boxer" (1969)—reached number one on singles charts worldwide. Their often rocky relationship led to artistic disagreements, which resulted in their breakup in 1970. Their final studio record, Bridge over Troubled Water, was their most successful, becoming one of the world's best-selling albums. Since their split in 1970 they have reunited several times, most famously in 1981 for the "The Concert in Central Park", which attracted more than 500,000 people, the seventh-largest concert attendance in history.

Street

A street is a public thoroughfare (usually paved) in a built environment. It is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about. A street can be as simple as a level patch of dirt, but is more often paved with a hard, durable surface such as concrete, cobblestone or brick. Portions may also be smoothed with asphalt, embedded with rails, or otherwise prepared to accommodate non-pedestrian traffic.

Originally the word "street" simply meant a paved road (Latin: "via strata"). The word "street" is still sometimes used colloquially as a synonym for "road", for example in connection with the ancient Watling Street, but city residents and urban planners draw a crucial modern distinction: a road's main function is transportation, while streets facilitate public interaction. Examples of streets include pedestrian streets, alleys, and city-centre streets too crowded for road vehicles to pass. Conversely, highways and motorways are types of roads, but few would refer to them as streets.

The company’s main shop is located at 9 Bond Street in the NoHo district of Manhattan. As part of the brand’s street marketing and branding, they chauffeur customers and media editors in an English taxi decorated like their bottles, referred to as “The Bond Mobile”.

As of 2013, Bond No. 9 has produced over 60 fragrances that supposedly encompass many New York neighborhoods, beaches, and places, as well as exclusive co-branded fragrance productions for Saks Fifth Avenue and Harrods. Most of the fragrances are promoted as New York neighborhood centric, including Central Park South, Madison Square Park, Manhattan, and many others. The company also sells candles, pocket sprays, body creams, and limited edition bottles covered in Swarovski crystals.
