Davie Allan The Arrows - Fuzz Fest

Allan grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California and learned to play guitar as a teenager. His career as a musician began when he teamed up with Mike Curb, a friend he met in the choir at Grant High School in Van Nuys, California, to form an instrumental surf combo. In 1963, Curb founded Cude Records, the first of many labels he would run, and released the first Davie Allan single, “War Path.” Allan participated in recording a number of other singles for Curb's label, released under group names like the Sudells, the Heyburners, and the Zanies.

VA - The Stiff Singles - Volume 1

Stiff Records is a record label created in London in 1976 by entrepreneurs Dave Robinson and Andrew Jakeman (aka Jake Riviera), and active until 1985. It was reactivated in 2007.
Established at the outset of the punk rock boom, Stiff Records signed pub rock acts and marketed them as punk and New Wave, including Nick Lowe, Wreckless Eric, Elvis Costello and Ian Dury. The label's marketing and advertising was often provocative and witty. Stiff billed itself as "The World's Most Flexible Record Label". Other slogans were "We came. We saw. We left.", "If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth a Fuck", and "When You Kill Time, You Murder Success" (printed on promotional wall clocks). On the label of Stiff's sampler compilation Heroes & Cowards was printed: "In '78 everyone born in '45 will be 33-1/3". A very early Stiff sampler album, A Bunch of Stiff Records, introduced the slogan, "If they're dead, we'll sign them" and "Undertakers to the Industry".
Stiff also produced eccentric but highly effective promotional campaigns, such as the three package tours in 1977 (Live Stiffs), 1978 (Be Stiff) and 1980 (Son Of Stiff), Elvis Costello's "busking outside CBS Records" arrest and the at least 29 different wallpaper sleeves printed for Ian Dury's second album, Do It Yourself, with associated unscheduled makeovers of unsuspecting record shops.
Barney Bubbles was responsible for much of the graphic art associated with the early Stiff releases.

VA - Lookout! Freakout Episode 3

Lookout and Panic Button's roster of punks, punk-poppers, and misfits in 2002 and 2003 is shown off here in all its energetic, rough-hewn glory. The first 14 tracks are from current and upcoming Lookout and Panic Button releases. Some of the highlights are Bratmobile's new wave-influenced "I'm in the Band," Pretty Girls Make Graves' angular "Speakers Push the Air," the Oranges Band's driving and melodic "My Street," the Pattern's snarling "Fragile Awareness," and a couple of reassuring tracks from old-school Lookout faves the Mr. T Experience ("My Stupid Life") and the Queers ("Psycho Over You"). It makes for a solid sampler of the label, but the appeal for collectors is in the six bonus tracks at the end of the disc. The real find is a storming live version of "Timorous Me" by the incredible Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, but the rare track from the Pattern, an unreleased gem by the Oranges Band, and the last song ever recorded by the disbanded American Steel truly make this a must-have, especially at the low price it sells for. ~Tim Sendra

Secret Affair - {2001} Behind Closed Doors

Was there ever an album as unexpected as ''Behind Closed Doors'' ? As audacious ? As vibrant ? As completely the best-thing-you'd-ever-heard ? Just when people thought they'd got Secret Affair sussed, worked them out right down their two-tone tonic smiles, Ian Page would - right out of left-field - magic up something just that bit extra special. And ''Behind Closed Doors'' is just that bit extra special! At the end of 1979 Secret Affair should have been fairly pleased with themselves. Formed singer Ian Page and guitarist Dave Cairns after the demise of the CBS signed New Hearts, they had only played their first gig in January 1979 as support to THE JAM, but by August they were on the cover of every music magazine in the country and riding high in the charts with ''Time For Action'', while the critically acclaimed ''Glory Boys'' became one of the defining albums of the year.
With that kind of attention you could have forgiven the band for a touch of complacency, but even before the release of ''Glory Boys'', the difficult second album was already front of mind. Having gained notoriety while spearheading the British Mod Revival, the band were sharp enough to realise they would have to have something pretty impressive up their sleeves to survive the backlash from a music press rather more enamoured with the Two Tone movement.

The Newtown Neurotics - The Punk Singles Collection

As The Newtown Neurotics, the band began their career playing punk heavily indebted stylistically to The Clash and The Ramones. Over the course of the 1980s, the band dropped the "Newtown" from its name and simply became The Neurotics; along with the name change came a stylistic broadening, including slower tempos and horn arrangements. They released several albums on noted UK postpunk label Jungle Records. Lead singer and guitarist Steve Drewett took openly socialist stances in his lyrics throughout the course of the band's career and currently displays an anarcho-syndicalist sticker on his guitar. When the bassist, Colin Dredd, came down with pleurisy, he left the band; Mac (Travis Cut /The Pharaohs /The Skabilly Rebels)was brought in to play bass for some farewell shows (at which the band's entire catalogue was played), and the band called it quits in October 1988. Drewett went on to form an Afro punk band called the Indestructible Beat. Although the Indie Beats were disbanded in 1995, Steve Drewett is known to do occasional solo gigs.
More recently, the Newtown Neurotics reformed for a few reunion shows in London & Brighton leading up to Blackpool's 2006 Wasted and 2008 Rebellion punk festivals, their biggest British audiences to date. A new rhythm section of David 'Gravy' Walsh (Drums) and Adam 'Smithy' Smith (Bass) (Both from Harlow Newtown) have been backing Steve Drewett since 2007, including an appearance in the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool for the 2009 Rebellion Festival.

Stray Cats - Hollywood Strut, The Unreleased Cuts

10 inch single features 'Stray Cat Strut' backed with 'Summertime Blues', 'Rumble In Brighton' & 'Rock This Town'. Erika Records. 2006. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Here are the kings of Rock-a-billy at their most raw. The first five songs are from 1990, Unplugged and well past their prime, it's hilarious (Setzer blows the intro to Strut, and is admonished with "20 years of playing it & you still can't get it right!). The rest of the fifteen tracks are from a show at Hollywood's Roxy, recorded in 1981. The crowd is in the palm of their hands, as the group blisters through an extremly hot set. The mix is flawed, I suspect the cd was recorded from vinyl, or an old analog tape(listen to the major flaw that interferes with "Double Talkin' Baby"). All in all this cd sounds like a bootleg, but WELL worth adding to your collection!

The Vapors - New Clear Days

Based in Guildford, Surrey, their members were David Fenton (songwriter, guitarist and vocalist), Howard Smith (drummer), Edward Bazalgette (lead guitarist) and Steve Smith (bass guitarist and vocals).
They were discovered and managed by the father of Paul Weller, John Weller and The Jam's bassist, Bruce Foxton. The song for which they are mainly remembered, "Turning Japanese", was produced by The Jam's producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven and hit the Top Three in the UK at the same time that "Going Underground" was at number one. It was also a big hit in some other territories, notably Australia. "Turning Japanese" reflected how singer/songwriter Fenton was meant to have felt whilst separated from his love. In the U.S., along with "She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper, the song "Turning Japanese" was believed to euphemistically refer to masturbation.
The band released two albums: New Clear Days (the pun on "nuclear" being intentional) and Magnets. The first was more clearly in the "traditional" new wave style of music, while touching on social issues such as the nuclear threat as well as love themes. The second album dealt more extensively with themes of alienation, with many dark lyrics about apparently psychotic characters, including the opening track, "Jimmie Jones", about cult leader Jim Jones. Sales of the second album were poor and the band broke up soon after its release in 1981. Fenton alleged in a later interview with Record Collector magazine that lack of record label support was the chief reason; apparently their intended seventh single 'Red Flag' was cancelled without explanation. Follow-up singles "News at Ten", and the aforementioned "Jimmie Jones", both coincidentally reached number 44 in the UK Singles Chart.
A solicitor who specializes in music law, frontman Fenton has apparently retired from his days as a music creator and performer to concentrate on legal aspects of the music industry.
Edward Bazalgette has since become a television director, credits including a 2005 BBC documentary about Genghis Khan.

Poison Idea - {1994} The Early Years {Bitzcore}

Poison Idea was an American hardcore punk band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1980. As their career progressed the band began to incorporate overt influences from Motörhead. The band originally dissolved in 1993, but has been playing intermittently since 1998. On January 31, 2006 guitarist Pig Champion died at his home in Portland, of undetermined causes, although he had been suffering from the flu and an untreated kidney infection. PI had recorded a new record and it was ready for release when he died. Pig wanted the record to be called Latest Will and Testament, a name that the rest of the band liked. After Tom’s death Jerry commented that Pig probably knew something that the rest of them didn't. The album was released in May 2006 on Farewell Records.
October 6, 2008 Portland police arrested Steve "Thee Slayer Hippy" Hanford, 39, in connection with a string of pharmacy robberies in late summer.
In 2007, after taking a year off to mourn the huge loss of Tom and, feeling deep down that Pig would want the band to continue, Poison Idea again reformed to play shows in support of a split 7" single with Kill Your Idols (for TKO Records). The lineup for this incarnation was Jerry A., Chris Cuthbert (drums), Jimmy Taylor (guitar), Matt Brainard (guitar) and Rob Hume (bass). This line-up has been a solid unit ever since playing stints down the West coast, Austin, Texas and even a show in Stockholm, Sweden in October of 2009 for a party sponsored by their friends at Swahili Bob's Tattoo shop and members of the Stockholm band Wolfbrigade. The band will be playing "Chaos in Tejas" in 2010.
POISON IDEA has been cited as an influence by bands and musicians such as Zeke, Turbonegro, Pantera, Napalm Death, Machine Head, Emperor’s Bård Faust, and thousands of other bands.--Wiki--

VicTiMs FaMilY - The Germ

Released in 1992, The Germ was the last album by the original incarnation of Victim's Family before their (temporary, as it turned out) breakup. Four records and eight years into the Bay Area trio's career, The Germ is fairly far removed from the band's hardcore roots; songs like "I Pissed On a Tree" and "Mind You" are closer to the tripped-out indie psychedelia of Screaming Trees or Meat Puppets, and the fractured instrumental passages of "New World Hors d'Oeuvre" and "Baklava," as well as the quirky jazz-thrash of "Er What?," owe as much to late-era Captain Beefheart as they do to the Minutemen. (The closing found sounds and atmosphere of "Lack of Interest" and the untitled piano solo at the album's end are even further removed from hardcore orthodoxy.) The lyrically punchy "Who Needs It" and "Instant Gratification," on the other hand, are good old-fashioned hardcore punch-ups, giving The Germ a grounding that a more purely experimental album might lack.

VicTiMs FaMiLy - Apocalicious

The Santa Rosa, CA, outfit Victim's Family formed in 1984 (the original lineup consisted of guitarist/vocalist Ralph Spight, bassist Larry Boothroyd, and drummer Devon VrMeer), and since its inception, the trio has refused to be pigeonholed to any single musical style -- incorporating elements of hardcore punk, jazz, funk, hard rock, and noise into its challenging sound. After signing to the independent Mordam Records in the mid-'80s (a label which included another hard-to-categorize act, Faith No More), the group issued three albums -- the 1986 debut Voltage & Violets, 1989's Things I Hate to Admit, and 1990's White Bread Blues (the latter produced by No Means No drummer John Wright). Soon after, they signed on to the Dead Kennedy's record company, Alternative Tentacles. 1992 saw the first release for their new label, The Germ, but just as underground and alternative rock were finally hitting the big time, Victim's Family decided to go on hiatus. The break proved to be a short one, as they returned in 1994 with Headache Remedy, following it up a year later with the live EP Four Great Thrash Songs. But once again, the group decided to go their separate ways. Upon returning to California, Boothroyd formed a new group, Saturn's Flea Collar (which also included Spight), issuing a single and an album (1997's Monosyllabic), before the band mutated into another group, Hellworms, which also issued a single and a full-length album, 1998's Crowd Repellent. Soon after, Boothroyd and Spight decided to activate Victim's Family once more, enlisting former My Name drummer David Gleza into their ranks, which resulted in the release of the group's first new release in six years, Apocalicious, in September of 2001.

dEvIaNtS - On Your Knees Earthlings

Very nice eighteen song anthology of some of the band's most chaotic material, from 1967-2001. Starts off with the psychedelic "You Got To Hold On" and a Mick Farren solo tune "Trouble Coming". Then continues with another cool Farren solo gem "Carnivorous Circus". The newer tracks,"It's Alright,Ma" and "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" sounds better than what I had expected. Also thoroughly enjoyed the early Deviants cuts like "Last Man",Jamie's Song","Deviation Street",and "I'm Coming Home".
For good measure two covers were added, the Stones "Play With Fire" and Hawkwind's "Lost Johnny"(actually,it's a tune that Farren co-wrote with Lemmy). Much of this disc,of course seems to be SO '70's-ish. I wanted to mention the numerous musicians that appears on this CD. There's Larry Wallis(Pink Faires),Wayne Kramer(MC 5),Steve Peregrine Took(T.Rex),the list goes on.Great psych with a punk edge to it. There's even a never-heard-before radio snipet that closes this hour long disc. Recommended to all music fans with good taste.

fAcE tO fAcE - How To Ruin Everything

How to Ruin Everything is Face to Face's reflection piece. The bandmembers take a look back on what made them love punk rock in the first place and churn it into an infectious disposition. They spent the 1990s fighting against the mainstream and through various personal and professional shifts inside the band, and How to Ruin Everything emerges as Face to Face's strongest material to date. Frontman Trever Keith is fierce, and his songwriting is now shaped into something courageous and meaningful. He and bandmates bassist Scott Shiflett and drummer Pete Parada ignore current punk-pop sounds for a gnarling rock growl. Songs like the shifty "Double Standard" and the spiky rock cuts of "Why Would I Lie?" are vibrant and nasty. "The New Way is spirited while resisting the social mainstream, and the self-criticism found on "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" rollicks with angry riffs and Keith's rough-edged vocals. Like those who came before them (the Clash, Johnny Thunders, the Jam) and those who've followed (NOFX, blink-182), Face to Face's underlying desire has been to remain original and in charge of its creative direction. The bandmembers are not going to listen to anyone, nor will they shift their rowdy rock stylings to match what's fashionable. "The Take-Away" is the fist in the face; it serves as a warning that punk rock is in demand and that the members of Face to Face will keep doing it their way.

bUrNiNg AiRlinEs & bRaId - Polyvinyl CD Single Series 004

Almost immediately following the April 1997 breakup of Jawbox, J. Robbins (guitars/vocals) began writing and playing with ex-Wool and former Government Issue bandmate Peter Moffett (drums). One day, the bassist couldn't make it to practice, so Robbins convinced the other Jawbox guitarist and vocalist Bill Barbot to slide into the role. By the end of 1998, Burning Airlines (named after a Brian Eno song) had their debut single and a split release with Braid in the bins of mom-and-pop record shops. The band took enough "time off" from a hectic touring schedule to record Mission: Control!, released in early 1999. As with the remainder of the band's major works, it was released by DeSoto, the label run by former Jawbox bassist Kim Coletta and spouse Barbot. Featuring arrangements that were sharper and scaled back from those of Jawbox, the record held the spirit of early XTC and the Pixies, along with retaining the Mission of Burma and Gang of Four-influenced foundation of Jawbox. Robbins also made a concerted effort to make his songwriting more direct, no longer writing in code or cut-and-paste snippets.
As the band set out to hit the road in support of the well-received record, Barbot decided that his responsibilities as an adult were too numerous to allow for the dusting off of his passport. Friend and Jawbox touring aide Mike Harbin was brought in, seamlessly fitting into the band as they toured for 18 months, traversing the United States as well as Japan, Europe, and Canada. Since Robbins had become an in-demand producer throughout the last few years, the trio wasn't able to visit the recording studio until mid-2000. Throughout the following six months, they recorded the fuller-sounding Identikit, which hit the shelves in May 2001. Just before the release of the record, the band became a quartet, adding the keyboard and guitar skills of D.C.-scene vet Ben Pape, which enabled Robbins to be less of a juggling act on stage. Outside responsibilities, including Robbins' hectic production schedule, led to the band's decision to split in 2002.

999 - The Punk Singles 1977-1980 (2001)

'I'm Alive' and 'Quite Disappointing', originally issued on the band's own Labritian label in August 1977 (LAB 1999), the single was also re-issued in a brand new sleeve by United Artists in 1979 (UP 36519). The A-side was included on the band's self titled debut album. 'Nasty Nasty' and 'No Pity', this acknowledged Punk classic was released by United Artists in October 1977 with the initial pressing coming in green vinyl. United Artists also pressed up 50 copies of the single which played at 78RPM and which were given away to DJ's as a promotional tool even though most of them didn't have the equipment to play it!.
'Emergency' and 'My Street Stinks' was released by UA in January 1978, a month before the issue of their debut album. One of the few Punk singles of the day to get a release in Japan, the A-side was included on the '999' album. 'Me and My Desire' and 'Crazy', two great tracks culled from the ''999'' album and releasedas a 45 in April '78. 'Feelin' Alright with the Crew', 'Titanic (Over) Reaction' and 'You Can't Buy Me' was released on August 18th 1978, the A-side was an ode to the band's raucous following and still a mainstay in the band's live set to this very day.
'Waiting' and 'Action', these two tracks were originally issued on a 12'' single and given away with the first 10.000 copies of the band's ''Separates'' album. 'Homicide' and 'Soldier', was first issued in November 1978 and initially available in green vinyl, ''Homicide'' shot to No.40 in the UK National Charts where it stayed for nearly a month. 'Found Out Too Late' and 'Lie Lie Lie' was 999's only single for Radar Records, ''Found Out Too Late'' was released in September 1979 and reached No.69 in the UK Top 75. 'Trouble' and 'Made a Fool Of You' was issued on Jan 18th 1980, the same day as the band's third album ''Biggest Prize In Sport'', ''Trouble'' was 999's only UK single on Polydor. 'Boys in the Gang' and 'Brent Cross', ''Boys In the Gang'' was taken from the ''Biggest Prize in Sport'' album whilst ''Brent Cross'' has remained one of the bands rarest recordings. A German only single released in 1980 on Ariola Records it was scheduled to be released in the UK and even got to acetate stage before being pulled.
