the VIBRATORS: [2005] Buzzin' [SOS Recs]

One of punk rock's longest running bands, the Vibrators emerged from the UK punk scene in 1976 and quickly found themselves sharing the stage with such notable acts as the Sex Pistols.
Their initial releases were minor hits in England, and the band was able to weather frequent lineup changes, which started with bassist Pat Collier's exit in 1977, until 1980 when the band called it quits. But, as with most UK punk acts, reformation was in the cards. The original lineup came back together in 1982 and released the LPs Guilty and Alaska 127.

the UNDERTONES: [2000] The Sin Of Pride [Remastered]

The Sin of Pride is the fourth and final album to be released by the original line-up of The Undertones. The Sin of Pride was released in March, 1983, just four months prior to the disbanding of The Undertones, and reached number 43 in the UK chart.
The musical influence of The Sin of Pride drew inspiration from both Soul music and Motown, unlike the three previous albums released by the band, which primarily consisted of guitar-oriented music.
Three singles were taken from the album - 'The Love Parade' , 'Got To Have You Back' and 'Chain of Love', but none of them reached the UK top 40.
This is the remastered and expanded version with 10 bonus tracks inlcuded

THE SONICS: [1966] Boom [Etiquette]

The Sonics' second album is every bit as explosive and influential as their debut outing, loaded with gritty Northwest rock & roll. Sandwiched in between the abrasive classics of "Cinderella" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (with the Wailers on backing vocals), the funk sass of "The Hustler" and "Shot Down," the demonic "He's Waitin'," and the sledgehammer, inside-out version of "Louie, Louie" (only three chords to play and they don't even play 'em) are the band's straight-ahead takes on old R&B chestnuts like "Skinny Minnie," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Don't You Just Know It," "Since I Fell for You," "Hitch Hike," and a nice barn-burning version of "Jenny Jenny." Where the Wailers cut down the trees and paved the highway, the Sonics were the first group from their neck of the woods to take that music somewhere wilder than their original inspirations. The second chapter of Northwest rock & roll after you absorb the Wailers' Golden Crest sides. by Cub Koda, AMG

GIGANTOR: [2001] Back to The Rockets!!! [Rotten]

1991 - Gigantor is born. Jens Gallmeyer (ex-PHOSPHOR, DER MODERNE MAN, ROTZKOTZ, SMARTIES and even CHANNEL THREE) and Nico Poschke (THREE CHORD WONDER) form the band to cover ("just for fun") a couple of good songs. Their favourite singer Gagu (still RUBBERMAIDS at that time) surprisingly agrees to join in immediately. Bernd Granz of LOST & FOUND RECORDS likes the idea so much that he offers to put out a 7" single right away. Drummer Heiko Bendlin (THREE CHORD WONDER) and californian bass-player Jay Lansford (ex-SIMPLETONES, CHANNEL THREE, RIK L RIK, THE UNFORGIVEN, SMARTIES) join up and away they go!1992 - The fearless five record their first 7" QUICKER THAN QUICK... in Nico's garage in Wunstorf, Germany, on his old 8-track recorder. This 7"turns out to be more successful than expected and 4 months later they're already recording their second 7", MR. BLUE SKY, this time in Nico's new 24-track studio. The same session spawns the songs "Everything Counts" by DEPECHE MODE (which will be used later as the opening track for the LOST & FOUND Compilation "...And The Fun Just Never Ends") and "It's Gigantic!" on which Jay's old buddy Spencer Sercombe, whose tour with MICHAEL SCHENKER somehow led him to Hannover, plays a great solo. By the end of the year Gigantor is ready to hit the stage for the first time. They play a secret support for Gagu's RUBBERMAIDS in Hannover. In November they start rehearsing for the album " MAGIC BOZO SPIN" not knowing that it'll take a long long time to get it done...

V.A.: [1997] Show & Tell - A Stormy Remembrance of TV Themes [Gammon Recs.]

Many tribute albums are as boring as watching bowling, but this is not one of them. Instead of a pack of punchless, nondescript underachievers ineptly stumbling through the works of giants, why not assemble 34 irreverent punk bands to blast off on 35 familiar, silly themes from popular TV shows? The results are mostly as fun as the concept is funny. Even without hearing those scathing lampoon-sters the Meatmen skewer "Green Acres" and "Mission Impossible" or drunk-punks Murphy's Law roast "Zoom," you just know it's going to be hoot city. The true godfathers of this goofy game, the Dickies (who released memorable punk versions of "Gigantor" and "The Banana Splits" in the '70s), just have to zip through "Secret Agent Man," while fellow L.A. vets Agent Orange -- who covered "Secret Agent Man" on a 7" previously -- give the appropriate spy-movie surf punk sound to "Get Smart." There's one amusing moment after another as the crappy cream of TV cheese is decimated, including such indelibly corny themes as "Beretta" (Trick Babys), "Laverne and Shirley" (No Use for a Name), "Mary Tyler Moore" (Clowns for Progress), "Beverly Hillbillies" (Butt Trumpet), and, of course, "Gilligan's Island" (Manic Hispanic). Special mention must go to Todd Bridges ("Willis") having a go at his own show, "Different Strokes." But where's the Batman theme? After all, covers of that smoker by Neal Hefti's Orchestra go all the way back to the '60s Who and '60s Kinks.

the CRAMPS: [1980] Songs the Lord Taught Us [Illegal]

The Cramps were an American punk rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2009, with the death of lead singer Lux Interior. Their line-up rotated much over their existence, with the husband and wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist Poison Ivy the only permanent members. Guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Ballam rounded out the first complete lineup in April 1976.
They were part of the early CBGB punk movement that had emerged in New York. The Cramps are noted as influencing a number of musical styles: not only are they one of the first garage punk bands but also by being the first known band to blend punk rock with rockabilly, The Cramps are widely recognized as one of the prime innovators of psychobilly, and they inspired many of the early goth rock bands.
