Tony DeBlois

Anthony Thomas "Tony" DeBlois is a blind American autistic savant and musician.

Early life

Tony DeBlois was born on January 22, 1974. Weighing less than two pounds, he was premature and had to be supplied with large amounts of oxygen. Large amounts of oxygen cause blindness, and the physicians during this time were unaware of this. Consequently, Tony became blind at just a few days old. He began to play piano at the age of two. At first DeBlois studied in the Perkins School for the Blind but in 1989 was awarded a summer scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Later he was admitted as a full-time student and graduated magna cum laude in 1996.

Career

DeBlois specializes in jazz but can play just about any other type of music as well. A savant, he plays 20 musical instruments and has held concerts worldwide but also has his own band, Goodnuf. He can play about 8,000 pieces from memory.

A TV movie was made on Tony DeBlois' life, entitled "Journey of the Heart" (1997) starring Cybill Shepherd as Janice DeBlois, Jeremy Lelliott / Chris Demetral (as young Tony), Blake Heron as Tony's younger brother Ray, and with an appearance of Tony DeBlois himself playing piano at the end of the movie. It was produced by Ronnie D. Clemmer and Richard P. Kughn.

What If We

What If We is the second studio album by contemporary Christian musician Brandon Heath. It was released on August 19, 2008 through Provident Label Group. The album debuted at No. 73 on the Billboard 200. During mid and late 2008, the album's first single "Give Me Your Eyes" stayed at number 1 on R&R's Christian CHR format for thirteen consecutive weeks, and was the second most played song of 2008 for the same format. The album received a Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for Best Pop Gospel Album.

Background

Before the record's release, there was originally a batch of 40 songs prepared as possible tracks.Brandon Heath said that he and producer Dan Muckala worked closely together in the process of deciding the final 11-track list; "I'll always love the ones that got left behind too, and who knows—they may make the next record", he says.

Release

What If We was released on August 19, 2008 through the Provident Label Group in the United States. It debuted at #73 on the Billboard 200, being his first album to chart on the 200. It also debuted at #3 on Nielsen SoundScan's chart for Christian albums, selling over 7,100 copies in the first week.

Georgetown, Penang - Delwin Cheah, a savant autistic artist launched his first solo exhibition which drew many art lovers from far and near. Delwin was diagnosed as having Asperger Syndrome with an IQ score of 114 which was above average. Delwin was a late talker and continues to have difficulties with expressive communication and social skills. Although his family is bilingual, Delwin speaks in English with an American accent. Delwin started to draw at the age of three. His first drawings were of zebras, which he drew continually for months. He has a passion for animals and soon after, began drawing lions, giraffes, wilder-beasts and many other animals not apparent in Asia. More recently he has begun to draw dinosaurs as well. With regard to animals and dinosaurs he possesses excellent recall and knowledge of facts such as names, characteristics, shapes, etc. and his perspective when drawing them is phenomenal. Delwin usually draws in ink and sometimes also uses colored pencils. He draws on the spot without ever drawing an outline first and he never erases. He often completes a drawing within 3 - 5 minutes.
