Jenny (Karen Allen) pulls a gun on the naked intruder in her house, but when she sees that Starman (Jeff Bridges) resembles her late husband, she passes out from the shock.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The "starman" has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny's help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel--which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986.

Starman (film)
Starman is a 1984 American science fiction romance film directed by John Carpenter, that tells the story of an humanoid alien (Jeff Bridges) who has come to Earth in response to the invitation found on the gold phonograph record installed on the Voyager 2 space probe.
The original screenplay was written by Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon, with Dean Riesner doing uncredited re-writes. Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role.
The film inspired a short-lived television series of the same name in 1986.
Plot
Launched in 1977, the Voyager 2 space probe carried a gold phonographic disk with a message of peace, inviting alien civilizations to visit Earth. The probe is intercepted by an alien ship which then sends a small scout vessel to establish first contact with Earth. However, instead of greeting the alien craft, the US government shoots it down. Crashing in Chequamegon Bay, Wisconsin, the lone alien occupant, looking like a floating ball of glowing energy, finds the home of recently widowed Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). While there, the alien uses a lock of hair from her deceased husband, Scott, to clone a new body for himself as a terrified Jenny watches. The alien "Starman" (Jeff Bridges) has seven small silver spheres with him which provide energy to perform miraculous feats. He uses the first to send a message to his people stating that Earth is hostile and his spacecraft has been destroyed. He arranges to rendezvous with them in three days time. He then uses the second sphere to create a holographic map of the United States, coercing Jenny into taking him to the rendezvous point in Arizona.

FILM DESCRIPTION: Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The "starman" has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny's help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel--which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986. After receiving an invitation from the deep-space Voyager probe to visit Earth, an alien species decides to do just that. This extraterrestrial space traveler (Jeff Bridges) first comes in contact with Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen) and takes the form of her recently deceased husband. Jenny takes the role as teacher and tour guide as she treks across the mid-western United States showing the visitor both the good and bad of humanity. A strong level of suspense is infused as for the entirety of their jaunt they are en route to rendezvous with his group all the while being pursued by the authorities. Jeff Bridges does a fantastic job at playing an observant and intrigued alien while his off-world ignorance and superior being contrast delightfully. A romance element is present being formed from his likeness to her husband, and overall Starman is an interestingly unique class of sci-fi. The original screenplay was written by Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon, with Dean Riesner doing uncredited re-writes. Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role. The film inspired a short-lived television series of the same name in 1986. Bernard Alfred "Jack" Nitzsche (22 April 1937 – 25 August 2000) was an American musician, arranger, producer, songwriter, and film score composer. He first came to prominence in the late 1950s as the right-hand-man of producer Phil Spector, and went on to work with the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and others. He also worked extensively in film scores, winning a song of the year Oscar in 1983 for co-writing "Up Where We Belong" (from An Officer and a Gentleman.) The Starman soundtrack was one of the first ever released by Varèse Sarabande, on both LP and CD in 1990, in the now-rare and highly prized VCD series. As such, the CD is a little expensive these days, and copies are going for almost $30 on Amazon. As a further note to collectors: a stunning symphonic/choral version of Nitzsche’s main theme, performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra released in 2005. This cue makes for a wonderful ‘bonus track’ addition to the score, as it gives flavor of what the score could have sounded like had it been orchestral rather than electronic. For contemporary audiences used to more sophisticated sounds, Starman could come across as sounding terribly dated. Nitzsche faced a great deal of difficulty in actually creating the sounds that feature in the score with the technological limitations of electronic instruments in the early 1980s, and taking those limitations into account, the end result is quite astonishing in terms of the different layers of sound and varying electronic timbres the score contains. Nevertheless, I feel I still have to remind readers that this score is a product of its time, and should be approached with the appropriate amount of prudence. With that in mind, I would still give Starman a cautious recommendation. The main theme is iconic, and the creativity Nitzsche brought to the project is worth experiencing in its own right. Starman
In this series, the alien returns to find and assist the child he fathered fourteen years before on his visit to Earth. When he arrives, he takes on the identity of Paul Forrester, a prize-winning free-lance photographer with a rather wild reputation killed in a helicopter accident. He finds the child (Scott Hayden) and his mother (Jenny) have been separated. Paul convinces Scott to help him to locate Jenny, his friend from his first visit to Earth. Unfortunately, their search is plagued by George Fox, a paranoid government agent who feels Paul and Scott are dangerous and wants to capture, examine, and probably kill them.

Starman (Jeff Bridges) tells Jenny (Karen Allen) that, despite her previous infertility, he impregnated her with a baby that will be human but will possess all of Starman's knowledge.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The "starman" has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny's help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel--which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986.

After receiving an invitation from the deep-space Voyager probe to visit Earth, an alien species decides to do just that. This extraterrestrial space traveler (Jeff Bridges) first comes in contact with Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen) and takes the form of her recently deceased husband. Jenny takes the role as teacher and tour guide as she treks across the mid-western United States showing the visitor both the good and bad of humanity. A strong level of suspense is infused as for the entirety of their jaunt they are en route to rendezvous with his group all the while being pursued by the authorities. Jeff Bridges does a fantastic job at playing an observant and intrigued alien while his off-world ignorance and superior being contrast delightfully. A romance element is present being formed from his likeness to her husband, and overall Starman is an interestingly unique class of sci-fi.

Starman is a 1984 American science fiction romance film directed by John Carpenter, that tells the story of a humanoid alien (Jeff Bridges) who has come to Earth in response to the invitation found on the gold phonograph record installed on the Voyager 2 space probe.
The original screenplay was written by Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon, with Dean Riesner doing uncredited re-writes. Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role.
The film inspired a short-lived television series of the same name in 1986.
Bernard Alfred "Jack" Nitzsche (22 April 1937 – 25 August 2000) was an American musician, arranger, producer, songwriter, and film score composer. He first came to prominence in the late 1950s as the right-hand-man of producer Phil Spector, and went on to work with the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and others. He also worked extensively in film scores, winning a song of the year Oscar in 1983 for co-writing "Up Where We Belong" (from An Officer and a Gentleman.)
The Starman soundtrack was one of the first ever released by Varèse Sarabande, on both LP and CD in 1990, in the now-rare and highly prized VCD series. As such, the CD is a little expensive these days, and copies are going for almost $30 on Amazon. As a further note to collectors: a stunning symphonic/choral version of Nitzsche’s main theme, performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra released in 2005. This cue makes for a wonderful ‘bonus track’ addition to the score, as it gives flavor of what the score could have sounded like had it been orchestral rather than electronic.
For contemporary audiences used to more sophisticated sounds, Starman could come across as sounding terribly dated. Nitzsche faced a great deal of difficulty in actually creating the sounds that feature in the score with the technological limitations of electronic instruments in the early 1980s, and taking those limitations into account, the end result is quite astonishing in terms of the different layers of sound and varying electronic timbres the score contains. Nevertheless, I feel I still have to remind readers that this score is a product of its time, and should be approached with the appropriate amount of prudence. With that in mind, I would still give Starman a cautious recommendation. The main theme is iconic, and the creativity Nitzsche brought to the project is worth experiencing in its own right.

I put this together from footage taken mainly from the Dunstable and Aylesbury shows which Bowie played in the summer of 1972. The silent footage has been synched with a BBC radio session recording of 'Starman' which I have manipulated slightly to give a more 'in concert' sound and then edited to match the footage. This video was not made for profit, just for other fans to enjoy. Photographer Paul Forrester decides to photograph an erupting volcano when he is caught in the eruption and killed. At the same time, the Starman has returned to seek Jenny Hayden and their child. He clones the dead photographer's body and finds his son, whose name is Scott and is living in an orphanage. George Fox has decided that the Starman's initial visit was a reconnaissance mission for a potential invasion, and believes that he will return. He sets up a department and begins the hunt.
