Passion (emotion)

Passion (from the Greek verb πασχω meaning to suffer) is a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire for something.

Passion may be a friendly or eager interest in or admiration for a proposal, cause, discovery, or activity or love – to a feeling of unusual excitement, enthusiasm or compelling emotion, a positive affinity or love, towards a subject. It is particularly used in the context of romance or sexual desire though it generally implies a deeper or more encompassing emotion than that implied by the term lust.

Denis Diderot describes passions as "penchants, inclinations, desires and aversions carried to a certain degree of intensity, combined with an indistinct sensation of pleasure or pain, occasioned or accompanied by some irregular movement of the blood and animal spirits, are what we call passions. They can be so strong as to inhibit all practice of personal freedom, a state in which the soul is in some sense rendered passive; whence the name passions. This inclination or so-called disposition of the soul, is born of the opinion we hold that a great good or a great evil is contained in an object which in and of itself arouses passion"

Heat of the Moment

"Heat of the Moment" is the first hit single released by progressive rock supergroup Asia from their smash 1982 eponymous debut. The song was the most popular on the album, and won enormous success in North America, reaching #4 in both the Canadian Singles chart and on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was aided by an innovative - and hugely popular - MTV music video. It was written by singer and bass guitarist John Wetton, and keyboardist Geoff Downes.

The single also climbed to the top position on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, remaining six non-consecutive weeks at #1 in the spring and summer of 1982. It was written by John Wetton and Geoff Downes. "Heat of the Moment" is featured at the beginning of another Asia song called "Don't Call Me" as a dialing number from a telephone.

Interpretation

The lyrics contain the line, "And now you find yourself in '82". While this is often interpreted as a reference to the year the single was released, Wetton has said that instead of 1982 it is a location, possibly meaning the 82nd meridian east that runs through the continent of Asia which is shown on a spinning globe in the song's music video. However, in live versions, Wetton has often substituted the current year for "82" in the second verse and rhymed it with another word. In a Reddit AMA, John specifically says it doesn't refer to the year 1982.

"Heat of the Moment" is a song performed by After 7, issued as the lead single from the group's eponymous debut album. The song peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989.
