Hezbollah is a Shia militant group and political party based in Lebanon. Hezbollah was created in the years between 1983-1985 as a reaction on the occupation of Southern Lebanon by Israel. Its paramilitary wing is regarded as a resistance movement throughout much of the Arab and Muslim worlds, and is considered more powerful than the Lebanese Army. Hezbollah has been involved in many fighting against Israel in Lebanon. Hezbollah was so effective that after fighting for many years, Israel withdrew from Lebanon in the year 2000. This was seen by Hezbollah and Lebanese citizens as a victory over Israel. Hezbollah than gained more fame throughout the world and became accepted by most of the Lebanese citizens from various sects and religions as their resistance movement and protector of Lebanon. Hezbollah paramilitary wing than again engaged in 2006 in a heavy battle with Israel which lasted 33 devastating days. Hezbollah fighters crossed from Lebanon into Israel and ambushed two Israeli Army vehicles, killing three soldiers and abducting two of the soldiers. Another five soldiers were killed inside Lebanese territory in a failed rescue attempt. Hezbollah demanded the release of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel in exchange for the release of the abducted soldiers. Israel refused and launched a large-scale military campaign across Lebanon in response to the Hezbollah incursion. This marked the start of the 2006 Lebanon War. The war that Israel started against Hezbollah did not go as planned, Hezbollah showed that they are capable of fighting back which in fact makes them the first militant group that ever repelled a occupation in history. After the 33 days of war and loses on both sides both parties agreed on a cease fire, Hezbollah claimed victory and many experts around the world were surprised that this could have happened. In the Arab world Hezbollah was honored as the first Arab army/group/resistance that managed to defeat the mighty power of the IDF. Experts claim that Hezbollah won the war mainly because Israel had 3 objectives and failed to achieve just a single objective. These objectives were: 1. Return the kidnapped soldiers. 2. Reach and occupy Beirut(capitol of Lebanon) 3. Destroy Hezbollah. The reality was that Israel did not manage to get back the soldiers on their terms(1). Israel did not manage to penetrate into Lebanon with ground troops because Hezbollah was holding them back on the Israeli/Lebanon border. In the border city of Bint Jbeil in Southern Lebanon. Hezbollah managed to hold back the Israeli ground troops using guerrilla warfare and thus did not allow Israel to go even further than the Border of Lebanon while their objective was to reach Beirut(2). And the last objective was to eliminate Hezbollah which Israel also failed to do so(3). After the 2006 war Hezbollah became known as a force to be reckoned with, George Bush went even as far as calling Hezbollah the most advanced terrorist group in the world. Although Hezbollah has many factions in 2013 the EU decided to add Hezbollah's paramilitary wing to the terrorist list. This comes after a bus blast in Bulgaria aimed at Israeli citizens which Hezbollah denied to have any involvement in because "It is not a military target nor does it benefit us to blow up a bus with civilians, Hezbollah does not operate like that" was Hezbollah's reaction. Israel has been pushing the EU to blacklist Hezbollah for years which were unsuccessful until 2013. Hezbollah also has been involved in the Syrian Uprising. Hezbollah has taken the side of the government in the Syrian civil war and in May June 2013 successfully assisted in the recapture of the strategic town of Qusayr. Hezbollah is a pretty secretive organization, but what we know is that their fighters are highly disciplined, and their operations have a high success rate compared to other militias around the world. It were operations like these displayed in this video that managed to withdraw Israel from Lebanon. Hezbollah hardly films themselves in action this way they try to keep their tactics a secret and the fighters do not want to be filmed in fear of Israeli assassinations. The Battle for Al-Qalamoun in Syria will start soon, Al-Qalamoun is one of the cities that borders with Lebanon. In Al-Qalamoun there are atleast 25.000 FSA and Al-Nusra fighters, some reports say that because Al-Qalamoun borders with Lebanon Hezbollah will also be involved in this battle and it will be similar to Al-Qusayr. No official confirmation has been giving on that point, neither did the Syrian military or Hezbollah officials give a indication when the battle for Al-Qalamoun will start. Some experts have stated that it might start in the spring of 2014 or even before that.
