The Comoros (i/ˈkɒməroʊz/; Arabic: جزر القمر, Juzur al-Qumur / Qamar), officially the Union of the Comoros (Comorian: Udzima wa Komori, French: Union des Comores, Arabic: الاتحاد القمري al-Ittiḥād al-Qumurī / Qamarī), is a sovereign archipelago island nation in the Indian Ocean located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel off the eastern coast of Africa between northeastern Mozambique and northwestern Madagascar. Other countries near the Comoros are Tanzania to the northwest and the Seychelles to the northeast. Its capital is Moroni, on Grande Comore.
At 1,660 km2 (640 sq mi), excluding the contested island of Mayotte, the Comoros is the third-smallest African nation by area. The population, excluding Mayotte, is estimated at 798,000. As a nation formed at a crossroads of different civilizations, the archipelago is noted for its diverse culture and history.
The archipelago was first inhabited by Bantu speakers who came from East Africa, supplemented by Arab and Austronesian immigration. It became a French colony in the 19th century before becoming independent in 1975. Since independence the country has experienced numerous coups d'état.
Anjouan is one of the three Comoros Islands that declared independence from France in 1975. One of its main crops is the ylang ylang flower, which is distilled into one of the constituents of perfume in numerous small distilleries. But many of the inhabitants of Anjouan try to leave for what they think will be a better life in the neighbouring island of Mayotte, which remained part of France and has a higher standard of living. BBC Swahili's Zuhura Yunus talks to a teenager in Anjouan whose brother is trying to make a living in Mayotte. Then she visits the brother, Ousmani, in Mayotte, to see how he is getting on. There's some positive medical news coming out of the Comoros. Health authorities believe the three islands of the Indian Ocean archipelago are on the cusp of being declared malaria-free. Until 2004, the Comoros was ranked among the countries worst affected by malaria. But this has changed; let's take a look.

Yehia Mohamed Elias, a former Comoran minister for education, married his wife Zakiya 20 years ago. He married his 'new' wife Zuleikha just two years ago. But now Elias and his wives have decided to take part in the great Comoran tradition of the 'grand marriage'. The 'grand marriage' is an age-old institution which has been passed from generation to generation on the islands of Grande Comore, Moheli and Anjouan. It's a symbol of social status on the islands and a must for any self-respecting Comoran, a commitment not even the President of the Republic can avoid embracing. Comoros is a collection of islands in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Mozambique, and with Madagascar in the East. The small nation inhabits a series of small volcanic islands, although one of the islands, Mayotte, is still administered by France and was never ceded to the independent Comorian government. The Comoros archipelago is set for another period of trouble as government troops gear up to invade the rebel island of Anjouan. FRANCE 24's reporter Franck Berruyer is in the Comoros and writes about his experience.
The Comoros islands are an archipelago in the Indian Ocean located about 320 km east of northern Mozambique and 480 km west of Madagascar. It comprises four islands: Grande Comore (Ngazidja), Anjouan (Nzuwani), Mohéli (Mwali) and Mayotte (Mahore). The name 'Comoros' derives from the Arabic word 'Qamar' meaning the 'moon'. The Comoros islands are known in Arabic as 'Juzur Al Qumur', which means'Islands of the moon'. Comoros gained independence from France in 1975, subsequently enduring a period of coups d'état and secession attempts which lasted until 2001. That year a new constitution was adopted, establishing the 'Union of the Comoros' which gave more autonomy to country. Since then, the Union of the Comoros has had a president and a government with a four-year term and a parliament wi...

Comoros Travel Video - Haphazardly scattered across the Indian Ocean, the mysterious, outrageous and enchanting Comoros islands are the kind of place you go to just drop off the planet for a while. Far removed from the clutter that comes with conventional paradises -- sprawling hotels, neon discos -- the Comoros are so remote even an international fugitive could hide out here. In particular, the island of Mohéli, boasting the sleepy town of Fomboni. Anjouan is the beautiful sister among the already good looking cluster of islands, it does paradise so well, it actually lives up to all the clichéd expectations any traveller could possibly muster -- Palms, bananas and the scent of ylang-ylang and cloves borne on the breeze. Rich in Swahili culture, and devoutly Muslim, the charming inhabitan...

[Verse 1:]
Oh, it's hardly a secret
You ain't gon stop tryna get where you going until you reach it
Always had them bars back in the day
When the same ones running up on you wasn't speaking
Look at all your achievements
You work hard so it'd be kinda hard not to believe that
You party every weekend (weekend)
Fuck em all who act like they ain't see it then
All them nights on the plane
Losses a nigga took, had to charge it to the game
Always wanted stardom and the fame
Learn to out smart em
And now it ain't no stopping the champagne from poppin'
The draws from droppin'
Us seeing muscle cars and coppin' em
Started off just a little less popular
[Chorus:]
Now you got a new place
You drive a new car
You smile for the cameras, live life like a superstar
Don't care what they say
You reach for the stars
Got everything you always dreamed or thought about
And everyone knows who you are
[Verse 2:]
Never gets boring
And haters in your face, you just ignore em
Don't know what they talking shit for
See niggas get theirs, you just tryna get yours
Therefore, you left all the people you care for
Hopped on a plane and got airborne
Seen all the bullshit and fell for it
But it's all good now
Cause the same ones that talk shit telling everyone you made it
Then you start seein' hoes you dated
And thoughts start getting jaded
Now your life's sort of different ain't it
Feel your scars knowin what your pain is
But what's it all worth if it's painless?
Say you wanna be famous
[Chorus:]
Now you got a new place
You drive a new car
You smile for the cameras live life like a superstar
Don't care what they say
You reach for the stars
Got everything you always dreamed or thought about
And everyone knows who you
are, are, are, are, are, are, are, are,
are, are, are, are, are, are, are,
who you
are are, are, are, are, are, are, are,
are, are, are, are, are, are, are
who you are
[Verse 3:]
Always knew I was this good
But never knew I'd be this good
Them niggas just starting, I've been doing it
Hear em talk but they ain't living my life
In the dark tryna get in my light
But chances I don't get em, dodge twice
Spendin' grands for hoes, this is the high life
And for the camera's posing this the high life
Bottles raising for my niggas not here
I pour out a couple sips
Blew em on the beach, I smoke for you on my trips
Them days I was younger I knew this life was the shit
But never like this
It's so amazing, we ain't gotta duck shots
We just pour and chase em
Ain't worry bout it, cause they gon hate
Know where I'm going, look where I came from
[Chorus:]
Now you got a new place
You drive a new car
You smile for the cameras live life like a superstar
Don't care what they say
You reach for the stars
Got everything you always dreamed or thought about
And everyone knows who you
are, are, are, are, are, are, are, are,
are, are, are, are, are, are, are,

are are, are, are, are, are, are, are,
